About This Listing
Looking for a clean, quiet, private apt with jaw dropping sea view, large balcony, 2 single beds, small kitchen, ac, wc, wifi, tv, immediate access to sea, a pleasant 15min walk from city centre and a host with a smile and eager to help? Apt3 it is!
Probably our best apartment. It has the perfect balcony to enjoy the whole horizon, sea view and the venetian castle of fortezza. On the inside you will find a clean, well organized and really decent place to stay. A small kitchen with fridge is available along with wc, ac, tv, free wifi (registration required) and surely REAL quietness (only the sea waves...)
The feelings on having your breakfast on the balcony or in the garden watching the sun rise above the fortezza is a picture you will never forget.
The apartment is very clean, a perfect choose for your stay. In addition we do offer cleaning service every 2 or 3 days, free of charge!.
Mamangakis Apartments are about one kilometer away the city center but it's a beautiful walk or ride with your bicycle, taking advantage of the new bicycle route on the sidewalks of the town. Within a range of 100-150m you will find parking, the best restaurants in town (also right on the sea), souvlaki place, courier service and internet cafe for your breakfast and other needs.
There is a bus stop right outside of our apartments that takes you to the university and another bus stop across the street that takes you to the city center.
Mamangakis Apartments is a family business and we invest on customer satisfaction.
Feel free to contact us for more information you might need!
Apt3 is equipped with a small kitchen with fridge, instant coffee maker, small oven, its own WC with shower, a balcony on sea side. The garden is available for all our guests and you may feel free to enjoy your meal or reading a book at your convenience. From the garden you step right on the beach! You do not have to walk outside the building or cross busy streets. You will be amazed how close you are on the sea.
Interaction with Guests
As a host i am always willing to help and welcome my guests. Most of the times this is how it goes. But due to family affairs or business matters I am not always present at the apartments. However my mother who is living in the same building is also willing to help at all times. In addition airbnb messaging service is something that i follow almost 24hr so contacting me is easy. If you read reviews from my guests you will understand how much i value my guests' presence at my place.
Koubes is the name of our neighbourhood. It is the west side of the city centre. This place is blessed to have a beautiful small, almost private beach for it's residents. This area is also very popular for it's top of the line restaurants and lounge bars. There are actually not many but the two restaurants Almyra (next door) and PrimaPlora (150m down the road) are one of a kind! Maestros (close to PrimaPlora) is a lounge bar & restaurant, kind of club for the locals for a drink later in the afternoon or a little after midnight.
Across the street you may find a coffee place for croissants, coffees etc.
Going towards the city center you may find “Noulis” another coffee and snack place a highly recommended one. A little bit further (250m from our apartments) there is a small mini market for basic stuff (such as groceries, milk to toilet paper)
In case you need a big supermarket you may keep going towards the city center and right before you get in it you will see a big building on your right which is a Carefour Marinopouos s/m. Or you could go westwards from our apartments and uphill (about 700m) where you will find a Lidl s/m (better if you have a car). A bank ATM machine is available little before reaching city center.
Our location is a great value for you vacation. Not far from city centre but far enough to avoid crowds & traffic. You are right on the beach with jaw dropping sea view, very close to the city’s main bus terminal (just a 10min walk) and finally very close to the island’s main highway that gives you the opportunity to explore the rest of the island fast and easy enough avoiding local traffic.
The main bus terminal (aka KTEL) is only a 10min walk from our apartments. Taking a taxi from city centre to our apartments or vice versa is not more than 5€ - 7€. In addition the island's main highway (aka VOAK) is only 700m away (uphill), a 2min drive and you are on the highway and on your way to the ends of the island or its airports.
You may reach Rethymno and our apartments in 3 different ways. By car rental, by taxi or by bus.
• Renting a car i would say is the best way and the most affordable. It might be a bit stressful on the street but not that hard for a medium & careful driver.
• Taking a taxi either from the airport or with an arrangement (i could arrange such a taxi for you) would cost you from 90 euros (arranged taxi) to 120 euros (airport taxi).
• Finally you could also take the bus which would be the most affordable way but a bit of a trouble. You first you should take a taxi to the city center of Heraklio or Chania (whichever airport you land) and to the KTEL bus service main terminal. From there, there is a bus every hour departing to Rethymno's KTEL bus terminal. From Rethymno main bus terminal (KTEL) we are a 10-15min walk or a 5-7euro taxi.
Other Things to Note
Not anything special, respecting the rest of the guests by keeping the garden clean and not making lots of noise etc. Most of the details you will be able to read a small welcome guest manual in the apartment.

Most of the details you will be able to read a small welcome guest manual in the apartment. Make sure you read this note on the wall as it gives you enough information about getting around in your apartment with hot water, wifi password, garden use, apartment keys, doors etc…
Costa 's Apartment is very nice , well equipped . This apartment has a wonderful view to the sea and the fortress of Rethymno . We saw Costa only 5 minutes Because He Was absent during most time of our stay , but he was very nice goal and Gave us Many advices about visits around and his mother greeted us during our arrival. A very good value for that price.
Danke!
Costa was a very nice host, quick to respond to my inquiries and address any concerns that I had. I only spoke to his mother once, but she was quite friendly and jovial. I stayed for 2 nights in Apt 3 before moving to Apt 1 for another 2 nights since Apt3 was already booked. Apt 3 matches the description and pictures. It isn't huge, but definitely adequate for 1-2 (website hidden) worked well, electric mosquito repellent helped, water was hot enough whenever I showered. View is amazeballs and really enjoyed the apt-wide balcony. Wi-fi signal was decent (averaged about 2-3 bars on both my phone and laptop). Only minor issues for me would be the dining chairs which were child-sized and I felt like I would break them sitting on them (luckily I didn't) and the very warn out skillet. Fortunately, I don't bother cooking when I'm on holiday, and I mostly used the couch/bed for sitting, which were way more comfortable. Rest of the kitchen utensils were perfectly fine. It was quite windy when I was there (mother nature's fault), so I had to shut the heavy doors to block the noise, which also meant blocking out the natural light.
As for Apt 1, it's across the hall from Apt 3, and per its description, facing the street side of the building. Size is good, kitchen is a separate section with a sliding door that sticks a little, and while it doesn't have a couch, it does have adult-sized chairs. With the sliding door open, the noise from the street is very loud as you're right up against the sidewalk and the street is heavily trafficked at all hours (scooters, taxis, occasional bus). That said, with the door and wind/security door closed, I slept fine. Wi-fi signal was weaker in that unit, but I also didn't need to move around to stay connected.
As for the garden, it's lovely. Access a little gate in the back to get to the beach. There were some reclinable deck chairs on the landing next door, which I assume belong to the neighboring building. I didn't see a single guest/occupant in that building, so not sure if anyone would have cared if I had used them. Beach is rocky here, so have aquasox/crocs. Water was still a bit on the cold side being late May, but after a minute I was fine. Bet it's amazing in July/Aug/Sept.
I'd happily stay here again in Apt 3 or any sea-side units. It's great for budget travelers sick of hostels/dorm beds, and for those who don't want to be in the center of the old/new towns. You can here noise from other units, particularly above, so be respectful when there. Highly recommend renting a scooter or car to explore the rest of Crete, but remember to get an IDP as it's a legal requirement in Greece (rental places might not care or even warn you, but the cops probably will if they pull you over).
The apartment was clean, and as shown on photos. Yes, there is no top class furniture or equipment. So what? There is the sea! Sea view is great, sound of waves is the best lullaby. Regarding equipment - everything worked as expected, no bad surprises. Shower was small, but we where understanding it.
Thank you Costa and Maria.
Costa has been an amazing host, being extremely kind, patient and caring! If there were any questions before, as well as during our vacation, Costa immediately helped anywhere he could.
The Appartment (Apt 3) as such was really nice, as well. It has an amazing sea view from the huge balcony, which definitely is a highlight. The furniture is quite simple but you will find everything you need. Another plus is the private beach right in front of the appartment, so if you're looking for a nice place to relax - which is different to all the crowded beaches - that's the place to be. (If you prefer going to the main beach, it takes you about 15 - 20 minutes to walk, while it's a 10 to 15 minutes walk to the old town.)
All in all, I can only recommend staying at the Mamangakis Apartments and I would definitely come here again.
Me and my girlfriend enjoyed a lot to stay with in Costa place!
Right on the beach you hear all day long the sound of the sea the most calming thing you could imagine and im not even talking about seeing it!
The apt is well equipped and the location is perfect next to local fancy restaurants!
