About this listing

Set amid the jungle canopy, Punta Jaguar is the perfect base for your adventures. Built with unique, breathtaking views of the ocean and jungle, the house is alive with the myriad species of birds and animals of the Osa. Situated 500’ above sea level, property is cooled by sea breezes.

The space

This space is incredibly unique, a mix of natural art and hand crafted design that you will see no where in the Osa! We are three stories of exciting views, enchanting animals at every turn and full of fun and adventure or relaxation.

Guest access

Our guests have a private path to the beach, acres of pristine jungle to explore. We have a gated driveway and are in an exclusive area that sits above the ocean with only a few neighbors that you will never come across.

Interaction with guests

We are in the United States currently awaiting the arrival of a baby boy. We have a full time caretaker and a management company that is ready to assist all of your needs from flights within Costa Rica, car rentals, tour coordination of all types of adventures from whale watching to surfing. They are ready to help you with no additional cost to you.

Other things to note

We expect our guest to respect the wildlife. There is no hunting, no feeding the animals and no agitating the animals. We cherish the wildlife here and we want them to have a beautiful environment to live in synchronistically with us so we can enjoy them for our lifetimes and future generations to come. You will have to sign a liability release and rental agreement before your stay. We ask that no shoes are worn in the house, that no smoking is inside the home ( you may smoke outside) , and that no additional people stay outside of the number agreed upon at booking. Please conserve water and electricity as we are off the grid. Also worth noting that you will need to arrive before dark if you have not been to the house before. The directions are based on visual references and can be hard to find in the dark as there are no street lights. Be sure to plan accordingly! Thank you!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the treehouse and the experience will stay with us forever. The treehouse is a work of art in the middle of the jungle. It is perched above the Matapalo beach providing breath taking views and a refreshing ocean breeze. If you like to surf, I am sure you will enjoy the break at Matapalo as much as we did. If you are looking for a life changing experience stay at Punta Jaguar! My boyfriend and I cannot wait to return!!

What a fabulous place......the location is Eden, the treehouse itself is an awesome structure like nothing else we have ever seen and the views from the bedroom are beautiful and restful. Make sure you bring EVERYTHING with you down to salt and pepper (excl. loo roll) as it is a bit of a mission back to Puerto Jimenez. The drive from P Jimenez is quite easily negotiable in a 4x4 vehicle but some of the steep ascents/descents with the loose gravel and bends on the 1km or so driveway down to the house warrant a jeep-style 4x4 as opposed to just a 4x4 saloon car. We had a Hyundai Tucson which JUST about coped. The place was clean and very tidy on arrival and we were greeted by the caretaker and his wife who in spite of having little English showed us around and were very friendly. One day he took us out to the local waterfall for a couple of hours to orientate us and was willing to organise fishing trips etc but we were quite happy being self-sufficient. One morning we were woken by a troop of howler monkeys in the adjacent trees which was just many photo-opportunities and the feeling that we were immersed in the real Costa Rica and not the tourist areas. We ventured down to the small rocky/sandy beach but didn't swim there although a couple of surfers were out on their boards.....we needed the energy to climb the 400 steps back up the hill to the house! We walked on trails through the forest nature spotting and had lunch at the restaurant by the river which was enjoyable. After sundown a head torch is brilliant and necessary...we read, played boardgames and listened to the noises of the forest around us....just very relaxing.

Punta Jaguar is an amazingly beautiful treehouse. The treehouse is perfectly positioned atop a hill that overlooks the ocean while remaining in alignment with the "jungle". Every morning you will awaken to an amazing sunrise and the sounds of howler monkeys (it can be a little intimidating) & chirping tropical birds. At night, the sounds of insects and ocean waves will ease you into a gentle sleep. The treehouse is equipped with most of the necessary amenities and if prearranged, the groundskeeper will prepare your meals for a small fee. When preparing for your stay, here's a few helpful tips: 1) The location is very isolated, so landmarks are extremely limited. Most importantly, a 4x4 is definitely required. Eva & Brian will provide you with directions. Once you manage to locate the dirt road to Carate be aware that you must cross two steams of water before you will identify the landmark they specify in the directions. This might note make sense now, but trust me it will once you arrive. 2) Pack light. There is approximately 50 steps in the treehouse to the top floor. You do not want to carry a large suitcase up the spiral staircase. 3) The mattress is covered in a blanket; however, there weren't sheets or blankets available for use. Be sure to pack a light blanket as the night can get chilly. 4) There are doors to each bedroom from the stairwell. Please remember to keep the doors close. We made the mistake of leaving the doors open and a dog entered the bedroom. Fortunately, the dog was friendly and I was able to lead the dog out of the room. 5) There are a few restaurants within driving distance and a supermarket in Puerto Jimenez (approximately 20 km) 6) The groundskeeper and his wife are extremely friendly and helpful. If you're not fluent in Spanish, download a translate application on your phone. We used Translate during our stay and it completely eliminated communication barriers during our entire stay in Costa Rica.

Thank you for your feedback, Dawn. We are glad you enjoyed your stay! I would love to respond by saying we are sorry for the confusion with your bedding. We handmade the platform beds so it works a little different if you aren't familiar with that style of bed! It is all custom done to fit the sheets and blankets snugly, so just by looking it looks like there is nothing but a blanket. If you would have pulled back the blanket and pillows you would have seen that there were sheets underneath! Unfortunately, you arrived way past midnight and our caretaker was waiting up for you to make sure you were ok. He normally assists all of our guests with all luggage and groceries when he gives a tour of the home. It is advisable to travel light in general as you don't need too much! I've also made an inquiry on the dog, it seems the neighbor's dog on the adjacent property got loose during the night and wandered off. We certainly apologize for that, it must have been startling. Thank you!

In the late 1990s, Brian Lovely took a break from the fashion photography and film production world to surf the secret breaks at Cost Rica’s Cabo Matapalo. He fell in love with the mountainous jungle he saw from his board and with the friendly people he met on shore and soon purchased there. One one of his yearly return trips to Matapalo, he saw a jaguar walk across the point of the property in broad daylight—an exceedingly rare and portentous event. From that day on, he called the place Punta Jaguar—Jaguar Point.

Eva Fleischauer and Brian met on a fashion shoot in the early 90s; reconnecting years later. After sharing his secret place with Eva on several trips, he also shared his dream to live there fulltime. The two decided to go off the fashion and production grid and throw themselves into the jungle for real. They traded cameras and slates for hammers and a DIY treehouse in the jungle. Now a married couple, the Lovelys camped out in the jungle for two and a half years with no electricity, using ice blocks to keep food cold and a camp stove to cook as they handcrafted their dream home. Their efforts resulted in a beautiful three story treehouse in the jungle canopy, which they now lovingly share with you.
