Hi there, we're a homestay option a few hours from machu Picchu and a great place to start or end your journey to the Inca Ruins.
We have already had some fantastic airbnb guests this year. We're also almost done with some important (email hidden)rst exciting news HOT SHOWER! Yes, we're excited too. Also, we've got two doubles and a new single room almost finished so we can make repairs on the other buildings.
This room is for 1 person and is private. Facilities: outdoor bar, campsite with adobe oven and a grill. Hammocks, two rivers, our farm to explore, roast your own coffee or chocolate. Eat with the family, speak some Spanish and all a few hours walk from Machu Picchu. Package deals for Dinner, bed and breakfast.
We're constantly renovating and upgrading our garden and facilities. Recently we added a new grill up at the main house and we're about to start work on a new toilet block right next to the original guest rooms. The plunge pool still hasn't happened....we'll get there eventually.
A stay with us is a rare and individual experience of Peruvian family life in the countryside where most people make their living from agriculture. We are nestled down by the river in a stunning valley with waterfalls and tributaries winding their way through the tropical vegetation. We have optional workshops such as coffee and cocoa roasting for you to take away some of your own organic presents for friends and family; and there is the chance to take local walks and visit our farm and see how locals experience this landscape.
Essentially, a stay with us is what you want it to be. We may just be a convenient stopping-off point or perhaps a chance for you to experience living in a place cut-off from the main arteries of Peruvian tourism. Whatever your reasons for visiting we're sure you'll love it here.
Access to main house, shared common room and bathroom from room. Gardens, dining room, patio and the forest beyond.
Interaction with Guests
We are always somewherre near and love to chat but we're equally aware that some people want to relax and just read without being disturbed. We're happy to be as visible or invisible as you want and there's plenty of space if that's what you need. Just let us know :)
Our area is really what's left of a once thriving community devastated by floods in 1998 and 2010. It's remote, peaceful, full of tropical plants and a real change for most of our guests. We have few neighbours but a lot of lovely things to see, nice walks and the opportunity to switch off from the world (no phone or internet).
There are taxis which pass on the main road 15 minutes above the house but no traffic around the property which makes for a relaxing stay. If you like walking you can even go by foot to the hot spring in Santa Teresa (May to November best) in under 2 hours.
Other Things to Note
We're farmers so sometimes we're not at the house and we don't always have a chance to get to internet to check emails. We have on occasion found people waiting for us at the house after a day on the farm and luckily everyone has been wonderful about it, but we do ask you to make sure you let us know your rough time of arrival so we're there to meet you :)
We're a family, we have a daughter who loves to meeet our guests and a couple of dogs who are rather friendly. Please feel at home while your with us. We're non-smokers so if you do smoke could you do it outside away from the house and not in your room. Try to take your shoes off before going inside if you're muddy and other than that enjoy yourself and let us know if there's anything we can do to make your stay more comfortable.
If you are looking for a one of a kind, genuinely worthwhile and wonderful experience.. You need to stay with Andrew and Tatiana! Staying one night in their guesthouse was one of the highlights of my trip and I wish I could have stayed longer, as I had originally planned. Andrew saved my life by organizing a cab in hidroelectrica at the last minute, and when I couldn't stay like I planned, offered me a free Chocolate roasting experience and cookies to take on my trekk to Machu Picchu :) The food was delicious, the accommodations were very comfortable, the location was wonderfully remote and disconnected from the world.. And the river nearby is truly stunning. I really appreciate Andrew's hospitality and willingness to accommodate me and my late arrival, and I hope someday to return and spend a longer period of time with their awesome British/Peruvian family :) Thank you Andrew, Tatiana and Maya for sharing your beautiful home! All the best, Sarah 3

About the Host, Andrew
Hi I'm the co-owner of Yellow River. Our family home is open to all visitors, my wife is Peruvian and her family has farmed these valleys for generations. We grow coffee, chocolate and a lot of fruit so the food is amazing and you'll not believe how green everything is. The price of your room here on airbnb includes a delicious home-cooked dinner and an equally delicious breakfast.
We have 5 listings with different bed and bathroom configurations so check them all out to see which best suits you. We are on the way to Machu Picchu and more and more tourists are avoiding the crowds and the trains and doing it themselves. Get there in style, relax, experience the real Peru that the majority of people never get to see. I love where we live because the pace of life is slower, the landscape is awe-inspiring and every day brings something new. I had never tried coffee before living in Peru and now I grow it! Life is good.
We have no internet but now have a reasonable phone signal (movistar is the provider) where we are so we prefer direct contact with guests before they submit reservation requests as we often don't get to them in time to accept them. We have had an amazing time with our airbnb guests, it seems to be a community of lovely, friendly travellers. We look forward to meeting you.
Please note, whilst we are near Machu Picchu it is hard to do a day trip from us to the ruins. We recommend people stay with us before or after their visit to Machu Picchu to avoid an unecessary rush or tiring day of travel and walking. It's best to spend the night in Aguas Calientes before your day at the ruins so you can get up early and be one of the first through the gates.
