Buxton is known as the” Cultural Capital” of the Peak District, with the magnificent Opera House being the venue for a wide variety of music, dance and theatre events during the year. Most notably, the Opera House plays host to the prestigious Buxton Festival and Fringe, and the Four-Four Time festival of live music.
As a spa town, Buxton has been a popular holiday resort for centuries and the newly opened Spa complex in the University of Derby Dome (formerly the Devonshire Hospital) has done much to re-instate this part of the town’s heritage.
The town is also blessed with magnificent architecture, a wealth of shops, and a thriving Arts scene.
Based at the heart of the Peak District and situated just over a thousand feet up in the Derbyshire hills, Buxton is the ideal base for climbing, caving, mountain biking, walking, bird watching, horse riding, gliding and much more.
I am also close to many of the region’s top visitor attractions including Chatsworth House and the show caves at Castleton.
I am happy to provide you with walking maps and guide books and advise you about favourite walks, restaurants and pubs and excursions.

Nigel's apartment is a really lovely place to stay, luxurious, very modern interior but in a beautiful historic building. The room itself is spacious, light, well furnished with quality bedding and soft carpets.
As a host Nigel was fantastic. He gave us plenty of local recommendations and made sure we were well looked after at all times. He offered to give us lifts and even took us to the station with all of our bags, which was a real help. He provided a host of breakfast options for us and teas and coffees, which really made the listing incredible value.
The location is excellent, 5 minutes walk into Buxton, which is one of the most beautiful towns we have ever visited. Incredible views from the apartment, 10 minute walk to picturesque woods, lots of lovely bars, cafes and shops also easily walkable distance.
We had a great time and would highly recommend a stay at Nigel's. Would definitely come back!
Nigel was an excellent host right from the start. He made us feel very welcome and he is very kind - we arrived quite late the first night, and he waited for us, he had put flowers in a vase for us and bought us chocolate - imagine how welcome and great that makes you feel!!! :) In the mornings we had a nice array of breakfast options and Nigel always ensured we had everything we needed.
We wanted to hike and he gave us a guidebook full of different routes and gave us suggestions on where to go, he also gave us very good restaurant recommendations.
His place is large, clean, in a great location, exactly like on the pictures and is very quiet, perfect for a relaxing break! The room is very spacious and the flat is very well decorated.
We would recommend Nigel's home to anyone and if we go to Buxton again, we would definitely stay with him again!
Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable Nigel! You made us feel so welcome and will definitely be back again next time :)
Very welcoming host and modern, clean and comfortable flat. Large room attractively decorated, shared bathroom with host and access to kitchen. 5 minute walk to central Buxton. Great for visiting Buxton and the Peak District.
Nigel was a great host and I would recommend staying with him!
Also gave us a lovely breakfast.
We had a great stay in Nigel's flat. The room was lovely, large and bright. The flat is gorgeous, in a very peaceful location yet within 5 minutes walk of the centre of Buxton. Nigel is the perfect host, very friendly, helpful, even lent us a book of walks as we had forgotten our map! And breakfast was great too. We thoroughly recommmend staying in Nigel's apartment.
We had a lovely stay with Nigel in Buxton. We were instantly made to feel very welcome when he picked us up from the station.
The room and bed are both very comfortable, despite being there on a very cold January weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast that was provided.
Nigel was an excellent host, his recommendations of walks and places to eat in Buxton were all much enjoyed.
We had a lovely stay at Buxton Spa. It's a stones throw from the town centre and theatre which was perfect for us. Nigel made us very welcome and we would recommend it to anyone!
