The Neighborhood

Buxton is known as the” Cultural Capital” of the Peak District, with the magnificent Opera House being the venue for a wide variety of music, dance and theatre events during the year. Most notably, the Opera House plays host to the prestigious Buxton Festival and Fringe, and the Four-Four Time festival of live music.

As a spa town, Buxton has been a popular holiday resort for centuries and the newly opened Spa complex in the University of Derby Dome (formerly the Devonshire Hospital) has done much to re-instate this part of the town’s heritage.

The town is also blessed with magnificent architecture, a wealth of shops, and a thriving Arts scene.

Based at the heart of the Peak District and situated just over a thousand feet up in the Derbyshire hills, Buxton is the ideal base for climbing, caving, mountain biking, walking, bird watching, horse riding, gliding and much more.

I am also close to many of the region’s top visitor attractions including Chatsworth House and the show caves at Castleton.

I am happy to provide you with walking maps and guide books and advise you about favourite walks, restaurants and pubs and excursions.

  • Nigel is an exceptional host, which is saying something since he was incapacitated with a fractured leg!

The room is extremely large, with lots of space, the bathroom and kitchen facilities are immaculate and you're only a short trundle by foot from some of the nicest restaurants in town.

If you want a hotel, go there, if you, like me need a peaceful nights sleep and a clean tidy room, go to Nigel.

  • Our stay at Nigel's Air BNB surpassed any expectations we had.
It's a lovely place, very large and comfortable room and Nigel was a wonderful host.
He was there to give us lots of helpful ideas and tips and a lovely guy to chat with. If you were after more of a private stay he is a very easy going person and will totally respect that.
Breakfast was amazing! Great location close to the station and some nice walks like Goyte valley too.
    HIGHLY recommend! Thanks Nigel :-)

  • The stay at Nigel's B&B was very nice! The room was spacious and cozy, and the location of the b&b was very convenient with nice surrounding environment . Nigel is also a very good and friendly host, who gave me a lift to and from the station, gave me a brief introduction of the town and restaurant recommendations, etc. Would definitely recommend this B&B to others.

  • Lovely, spacious, bright, nicely furnished flat, a seven minute walk from the centre of Buxton. Really comfortable double bed. Nigel is a really nice, helpful, easy-going guy, very knowledgable about local hiking, bars, restaurants, architecture, the Buxton festival and probably lots more. Had a great time.

  • We had a lovely time at Nigel's accommodation. Nigel was a courteous host, and nothing was too much trouble. Nigel gave us great recommendations for the local area, and Buxton was a close walking distance. Would return again.

  • Nigel was an excellent host. The room and facilities were great. Nigel was very helpful in suggesting places to visit and how do do things with minimal cost. Nigel's flat is very close to eating and entertainment sites.

  • Nigel’s flat very the perfect place to explore Buxton and surrounding countryside, with less than a five minute walk to the restaurants – of which Nigel has great knowledge – as well as the The Pavilion Gardens.

The flat was exactly like the photographs – with a very spacious double bedroom – and Nigel made us feel very at home.

We would recommend staying in this luxurious accommodation and we planning on returning when the English weather is warmer to sample some of the creative festivals which Buxton has to offer.
