What can we say that others haven't already said? We specifically did not want a big resort experience for this vacation. We wanted a quiet but beautiful place to slow things down, relax and re-invigorate our family in the middle of a crazy New England winter.
We got exactly that from Edmundo's wonderful home. A private oasis but with three fantastic assistants. You've read all the kudos about Hilda (silent "h" please when you say her name!), Euri and Papo but I'll just add that after a week with them we all hugged goodbye.
Euri drove us to the airport at 3 in the morning and had only smiles and kind words.
Hilda gave us wonderful meals and tips on foods to buy at the store that we would not have thought of.
Papo worked around the clock keeping the pool clean, the leaves raked but also it was great to know that he lived on the property in case we had any problems at an off time of the night.
Edmundo was always available via WhatsApp, checking in on us and when we missed our connection from JFK to SDQ (thanks, frozen Boston airport!) and got there a day late, he offered to refund a night's stay...see if your all inclusive resort ever does THAT!
Mostly we relaxed on the property but we did do the worthwhile day trip to la Bahia de las Aguilas. Not only is the beach beautiful, but the ride there is very picturesque. Look for the iguanas towards the end of the drive. On our day there we say a whale, lots of fish and bought excellent lobsters from a fisherman who had just caught them...and of course, Hilda cooked them up in garlic. Better than our Boston lobsters!
No one wanted to leave but sadly we had to. This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic and if we return we'll book Hacienda Los Guayacanes again!
Thanks again, Edmundo, Euri, Hilda, Papo and Carlos (our driver from the airport when we arrived).
We are a family of four, two boys of 12 and 15 years. We wanted to get away from cold Connecticut and were looking at resorts in Carribean Islands. It just wasn’t inspiring at all. We have never used Airbnb before and decided to give it try. We def. didn’t regret that.
We were attracted to the beautiful pictures of Hacienda Los Guayanes and the very positive reviews. The place didn’t disappoint us. The description and pictures show exactly what you get.
The owner, Edmundo, is a perfect host. He’s always accessable and replies immediately. It’s important to him, that his guests feel comfortable and enjoy their stay at his home. It’s clear that he is primarily in this “business” to promote his country, which he loves. Visiting Edmundo felt like visiting a relative.
Pros: Wonderful property, beautifully decorated with much personality. Most important to us was the 20,000 sq meter beautiful lawn, as there are 3 soccer mad males in our family. The place was perfect for that, and Edmundo was so kind to have a goal made for us. I really enjoyed reading and watching the sea from our private beach. No shouting people, no jet skies, no music, just the waves and the birds. It’s def. a plus that the place is staffed with kind and service minded people. We did especially appreciate the drivers Carlos and Euri.
Cons: This paradise is far away from everything. We couldn’t be bothered to drive for so many hours, which meant that we have never seen so little of a country.
On Edmundo’s recommendation we did, however, go to Bahia de las Aguilas. We left at 7am and was back almost 13 hours later. It was indeed a very long trip, but it was worth it. Not so much because of the beach, but the drive took us through many villages, the mountains, the coastline and gave us a good picture of the Southwest of DR. The final part of the trip to the beach was by boat, which was great and our sons had fun fishing.
To conclude we had a wonderful relaxing vacation in this little paradise, it was a unique experience, which we will never forget.
We just returned from an eleven night stay at Los Guayacanes and let us just say what a special oasis it is! We traveled with our two young boys and were content to stay at the property and enjoy the many lovely spots. Morning at the tennis court, beach and peer and afternoons at the pool and Terrace relaxing and reading! Having Hilda cook you breakfast lunch and prep dinner was an unbelievably wonderful experience. She made us feel so well taken care of and relaxed. Our kids adored her. We really enjoyed her cooking as well. We wish we spoke more Spanish, which would have allowed for easier commication. But we did use the (website hidden) translate app which helped a lot. And it was fun to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. So be prepared that their English is very limited. Don't let this stop you though we all worked together to communicate.
Amazing care has been put into the landscape. Papo is meticulous and amazingly hard-working always with a smile on his face. All the plants and lush grass are gorgeous. There's just so many nice details around the entire property we just kept marveling at how pretty it was the entire time!
We loved the proximity to the beach and the beautiful breeze. Nice new towels. And the sun shelter was great for the kids. The beach is so private we only saw two or three people in our entire trip. We loved that it's west facing also so that you could see beautiful sunsets every night. Definitely bring water shoes as its rocky. We didn't take out the sailboat but enjoyed the kayaks a lot.
The house is very comfortable, but a little bit dated. We did have a little bit of trouble using things like the satellite tv, the hot water in the showers, the sliding doors and air conditioner in the master bedroom, but we have to remember that we were in a whole other world. Not a big complaint but just don't expect things like tennis rackets and snorkels to be new. Also make sure to bring some bug spray. There were no mosquitoes at the beach but definitely they linger in the house. We speculate that they enjoy the water from the hydration system. We barely got any bites but but our kids definitely did.
Edmundo has made sure that you will feel completely safe and cared for from the moment you book. Sending you all the information, grocery and menu ideas and answering all your questions quickly. He even helped us acquire a high chair.Carlos meeting you at the airport and bringing you grocery shopping to Yuri running out to get beers. Such a very unique experience! We are going to miss this place and the staff a lot!
Our 9 day stay over Christmas and New Year’s at Hacienda los Guayacanes was magical, restorative, relaxing, fun, and beautiful. The sleeping accommodations furnished just the right amount of room for the six of us (3 generations). The thoughtfully and gorgeously developed grounds provided several areas for hanging out as a group (front patio, poolside lounging area, and shaded pier), plus areas for quiet time for anyone who needed it (hammock, shaded beach chairs, a blanket on the beautiful lawn). Our favorite activity was the amazing snorkeling right off the dock (go in the morning when the water is crystal clear). We also took advantage of the kayaks, and went on one excursion with the driver, Euri, but were otherwise content to just enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
But what really made the whole stay so enjoyable was the wonderful staff. We felt so pampered and looked after and supported by everyone. Carlos met us at the airport and took us grocery shopping, then handed us off to Euri, who during the week acted as driver/trip organizer/fish procurer, and helped us with the kayaks. Pappo kept the grounds and pool neat and clean, and started the brick oven (for pizza) and the bonfire. And last but not least, Hilda, who cooked, cleaned, and generally mothered us. She made wonderfully satisfying meals (our favorites were the traditional dishes of chicken, rice and beans, tacos, etc.) And of course, Edmundo was always in touch by What'sap, checking to see if we needed anything, the perfect host. All in all, a pretty perfect family vacation, and we all agreed we’d like to come back soon.
My children and I could not have enjoyed our vacation more... The description for this home and property sounded too good to be true and when we arrived it was everything and more. Edmundo is host extraordinaire. He was accessible long before our holiday, during, and after. He has put much love, thought and hard work into this oasis. His staff are wonderful...nothing shy of feeling like family. But we still enjoyed privacy and our own space. Speaking of space...there are different areas to enjoy on the property for every mood, level of energy, morning, noon and night! Uri, Pabo, and Hilda are the best. I am a terrible cook and to be treated to delicious home cooked meals by Hilda was wonderful. Uri took us to wherever we wanted and even taught my son Spanish. Pabo built us wicked bonfires and ensured the beach was cleared every morning, maintained the property and cleaned the pool of leaves. The sound system in every unique location is phenomenal. If you are looking for pampering, privacy, peace and natural beauty in the warmth of the sun... Look no further. We will be back.
My husband and my parents booked this property for our Thanksgiving get away. The property is beautiful and as described. If you do not know Spanish do not be intimidated and not go. Just use (website hidden) translate! This was Edmundo's suggestion to me as we communicated through the WhatsApp. Euri, Hilda and Papo are wonderful people. They do not know a lot of English so definitely use (website hidden)Translate. Euri is an excellent driver! We did not do a lot of the trips this time. We loved the property so much we just relaxed. We did go to Las Salinas and took a boat ride to see the Flamingos. Hilda's cooking is out of this world! She made the best ribs we have ever had. We were able to buy fresh caught lobster and we loved how she prepared it. Then she made us Paella with the leftover tails she had and shrimp for our Thanksgiving feast. I do suggest having a grocery list and an idea of what you would like her to prepare each day before you get there. It will help you buy your ingredients at the store as well as let Hilda prepare your delicious meals easily. We really enjoyed the outdoor shower. The Sonos sound system is really great and we enjoyed being able to play different music at different areas of the property. We can not wait to go back sometime! I just can not say enough good things about our trip. :)
Everything at the Hacienda Los Guayacanes was above expectations. The staff, Euri, Hilda and Pape were all wonderful. Euri would take us anywhere we wanted to go. Hilda would make fresh juices (make sure to buy lots of fruit!). Pape kept the grounds spotless.
My wife is a vegetarian, and so we had to go shopping a couple of times to make sure we had enough good, but Hilda was very accommodating with the food and a great cook!
I did not speak Spanish at all, and my wife knew a couple of words. We used a translation app ((website hidden)) on our Iphones and we were able to communicate that way. There was WiFi everywhere on the grounds and I loved being able to control the music from all different areas on the grounds.
We asked Edmundo before we left about a safe for our passports and money, and he had one installed by the time we got there. That being said, once we arrived , I would have felt comfortable without it. The grounds felt extremely safe!
I did see that there was a TV there with premium channels (HBO etc) we decided we would not watch TV while we were there. Playing tennis at night with the floodlights and the music was great! The only choice we had to make every day was to decide which area we were going to sit in: the terrace, the dock, the beach, or the pool.
I can definitely say that it was hard to leave the grounds. We were well taken care of. Edmundo was always available while we were there and checked up on us with Whatsapp to make sure we had everything we needed.
Thank you Edmundo, Hilda, Euri and Pape for a wonderful stay!
I am very natured oriented, hence why i own Hacienda Guayacanes.
I love the ocean, stars, clear sunny days, wind and cruising Ocoa bay early in the morning.
I am very sensuous and detail oriented. I like subtlety with comfort.
