About this listing
A nice look from the upstaires balcony, it shows the courtyard, painted wood, old ceder wooden doors, Zellij mozaic, and sculpted plaster.
Dar Benares is a charming holiday rental property located in the hearth of the old city of Fez,is 400 years old, it was carefully restored over the period of two years, using only traditional materials and craftsmanship typical of Fez. The house has three bedrooms, and two bathrooms.
Dar Benares is built around a medium-size courtyard, which has in its center a round Zellij table surrounded by iron chairs. The living room has large sofa and a grand open fireplace, a flat television screen with built in DVD player and iPod docking station if you wish to bring your own movies and music. Dining area is just off the courtyard with Moroccan banquettes (Frash). There is a fully equipped kitchen as well--with oven, fridge, freezer, crockery and cutlery--if you wish to cook, or try authentic, specially cooked, meals at the house, prepared by our cook.
Dar Benares fits six people. It has two double bedrooms, and one single bedroom, with master beds and spacious wardrobes. All rooms have air-conditioning, which can be used to heat or cool the bedrooms for a more restful sleep. The house also has two luxurious bathrooms; one of which has a giant circular copper bath. All bedrooms and bathrooms are in the second floor. From this level several stairs lead up to the terrace, which has a mosaic table, should you wish to have your breakfast or dinner in open air.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dar Benares, thanks to Simohammed's hospitality. The house is nicely furnished and breakfast was delicious. Simohammed was very generous with his time to make our stay in Morocco really smooth and enjoyable. Many thanks!
We stayed at Dar Benares as part of a two week trip to Spain and Morocco where we used Airbnb for every accommodation. That said, Simohammed was hands down the best host we had during this trip and my family agrees that Dar Benares was our favorite Airbnb accommodation. We only wish we had more time to spend in Fes! Thanks for a great stay Simohammed!
We were greeted and picked up by Simohammed, and was shown the riad through the medina. Beautifully restored, the palatial riad has beautiful intricate details. Simohammed made us a lovely breakfast every morning and he is extremely helpful and will help with any requests. One highlight was Simohammed's sister, Nabile's cooking, who cooked us a sumptuous meal that is the pinnacle of Moroccan cooking. Thank you!
We really enjoyed our first stay in Morocco, in Dar Benares. Beautifully restored in Moroccan style, this house is of real comfort and quietness in the middle of the old medina. Simohammed is a nice and pleasant host. He arranged a guide for us, Mr Hassan, to guide us through the medina and show us the handicrafts. This is really a must do! Sister Nabila cooked two evenings for us, which is really the authenticity of Moroccan food!
We did enjoy the hospitality and will keep it in our memories!
We enjoyed our stay at Dar Benares. The place is beautiful and charming, as per the pictures. It is located in the old medina, which really made our stay a very special experience. Simohammed is managing the house, and he is very professional and friendly. The communication was very clear to pick us up and he organized the luggages to be delivered from the taxi to the house. Simohammed also prepared breakfast every morning and he did the laundry once. He organized a car transfer as well as a meal cooked at home. We just were not crazy about the guide that he found for us to visit the medina on our first day. The bathtub is amazing, and the kids loved it. Wifi was ok. Steep stairs to go to the first floor. There are small local shops to buy food near the house (milk, egg, etc.) and a market not very far. We used the air conditioned on the heater mode as it was a bit cool in the mornings and evenings and it worked fine.
This is a wonderful place to stay in Fes! It is beautiful, comfortable, clean, and located in a great area. Simohammed is a terrific manager/host! He will arrange anything for you, answer any questions, and assist with even the smallest problems-like where and how can we get some antihistamines. Also his sister is a great cook. One of my best memories of Fes will be cooking a pastilla dinner with her! We can't think there is a better place to stay, so highly recommend Dar Benares!
