About This Listing
16 minutes from the EPIC campus in Verona!
Our family-friendly finished lower level sleeps you and your kids! Rest well in a quiet suburban neighborhood on Madison's west side. Nearby are the beltline highway, bus stop, and popular bike trails.
Lower level guest room with a double bed, single bed and optional single futon bed. Also your own living room and a private full bathroom. Fireplace, cable TV and wireless internet are all included. We are on the west side of Madison near the "beltline" and city bus. We are also near the West Towne Shopping Mall and many restaurants. Hot breakfast provided. Private entrance through the garage. Your hosts are mother and daughter homeowners with interests in history, sustainable living, Shakespeare and other literature, Frank Lloyd Wright, writing, teaching, traveling and gardening.
The guest room was remodeled for your enjoyment after we won a contest for Madison's ugliest room. A local TV channel offered a makeover--furniture, flooring, artwork, painting--for the "winning" room, and all viewers were invited to vote. What was once an unappealing, unfinished room blossomed into a pleasant, comfortable space, which we enjoy sharing with guests!
The room includes a refrigerator and microwave, and we will loan you a picnic backpack which includes dishes and tableware for four. This is our attempt to provide you with a meager kitchenette.
The guest bedroom, adjoining hall, bathroom and family room/living room are yours exclusively. The family room opens to a backyard patio which is yours to use, and the back yard has a tree fort play structure you or your kids are welcome to enjoy!
Interaction with Guests
We will welcome you when you arrive and give you a garage door opener, so you can come and go at any time. We will provide breakfasts and join you at the table at whatever time you request. Feel free to use us as a resource on the local area and places of interest! We want you to enjoy our city as much as we do.
A Note About Our Response Rate: We respond promptly to every inquiry and always have. On some occasions our response has not gone through and we didn't notice at first. We've been unable to get support from AirBnB about this issue.
We live in an established, wooded area with a large city park at the end of the street. Our tree-lined street is home to many birds and squirrels, as well as the occasional fox or raccoon. We know and like all our neighbors.
We are fifty yards from a city bus stop that serves commuters heading in to the university or capitol area of the city. If you want to use the bus during non-commuter hours, buses operate at frequent intervals throughout the day from a hub one mile walking distance from our house along safe, busy streets. Our house has ample on-street parking, and you can park in the drive with no trouble. We are on the other side of town from the airport, so a cab will be needed if you come by air. The bus will get you here, too, but it's a long ride from the airport. However, if you drive, we are easily reachable from all area interstates and highways 12, 18, 14 and 151.
Other Things to Note
If you suffer from cat allergies, this may be a difficult house for you to stay in. However, the cat is scrupulously kept out of the guest bedroom, so that area, at least, should not exacerbate your symptoms.
We are a non-smoking household, but we can arrange a smoking area on the outdoor patio in good weather, if need be.
For the sake of our own cat, we don't allow pets.
A refrigerator is provided in the guest bedroom; please don't use the kitchen refrigerator for storage.
There is office space adjacent to your family/living room. That office area--computers, office supplies--is for our use only, please.
Very warm welcome from Ardis and Tereza. They are so nice. I'm very happy when stay here.
Thank you Ardy and Tereza
It was a pleasure staying with Ardis and Teresa! I was traveling with two other friends for a weekend trip to Madison, and as advertised, the space was more than enough for the 3 of us. Our room, bathroom and Garage-entrance were sectioned off from the rest of the residence, giving the place privacy and ease of access.
In terms of location, the listing is in a quiet, residential part of Madison that is a reasonable drive away from Downtown Madison. It was a 15 minute-ish drive to the Capitol and UW Madison. It was very manageable with a car.
Ardis and Teresa were very friendly and their enthusiasm for hosting was clear throughout our entire stay. I would highly recommend this listing to others. I know I will definitely be back if I'm back in Madison again!
This was my second time staying with Ardis and Teresa. They were both wonderful hosts once again, and were very accommodating and punctual with breakfast for my early schedule (I requested 7am). The proximity to routes 12 & 18 and downtown Madison makes it very convenient to get around with a car; an off-street parking spot makes it convenient to come and go either having to worry about the snow.
A garage door opener gives private access, and all the facilities and amenities make for a comfortable stay.
Ardis and Teresa are super nice and kind. Their hospitality is excellent.
The house is in a good location, close to bus stop, supermarket, and nice Thai restaurant. I has my own living space with a nice and warm fireplace for the cold night. Breakfast is delicious. Bath room is warm and comfortable. I had a great time while staying there. If I have chance to go back to Madison again, I will visit them.
Ardis and Teresa were great hosts, very accommodating and very interesting to converse with over breakfast. On a couple of nights during our one-week stay, they made a fire in the fireplace, which made the house seem even cozier. The off-street parking was great to have, even though winter weather was not a problem. The bedroom space is very nice and quite private, and while the bathroom is very small, it is toasty warm and clean.
Our stay with Ardis and Teresa was absolutely wonderful. Their home was very comfortable, clean, and in a great location. We had a car to get around (only 10 minutes from downtown) but noticed that the bus stop was very close. We felt welcomed from the beginning and Ardis and Teresa made every effort to help us to be as comfortable as possible.
Having the private living room was fantastic as our little boy was free to spread his toys all over the floor! Having our own entrance through the garage was very convenient as well. Breakfast was tasty (they catered to our vegetarian and meat-eating requests) and was a lovely opportunity for us to get to know each other.
Overall, we highly recommend Ardis and Teresa to anyone visiting Madison. Their home is relaxed, in a safe neighborhood, and is easily accessible to the city. Oh, and their cat is beautiful too!
Thanks Ardis and Teresa!
My stay at Ardis' and Teresa's home, with a friend I was meeting in Madison for a Yoga retreat, was very pleasant and just as I hoped it would be. Ardis greeted me upon arrival, then Teresa proceeded to show me everything we needed to know. I was impressed with their "set-up" to accommodate us both, yet still maintain everyone's privacy. We had plenty of space to park our two cars outside in their driveway in the lovely neighborhood, where we felt totally safe even at night. The location was within a reasonable driving distance to restaurants. Prior to our arrival, Ardis asked if we had any food considerations for our breakfast, which they accommodated. A warm fire greeted us after we returned at night and hot coffee was ready for us in the morning after a very peaceful sleep. We enjoyed chatting with them at breakfast. My friend and I even shared the large couch in the living area we occupied with their cat, Nike, for a time. I only wish we were able to spend more time there but, alas, we had our retreat to attend. Thank you Ardis and Teresa for opening your home to travelers!
About the Host, Ardis And Teresa
My daughter Teresa and I own our home together and would love to share it with you. I'm a retired journalist and college English instructor and she is a home energy auditor. We both write. I've published a couple of books and many magazine articles. My daughter writes television and movie fan fiction. We love to travel. We've visited China, Western Europe, UK, Costa Rica, Mexico, Peru, Egypt, and frequently the Shakespeare Festival in Stratford, Ontario. It's great fun to meet fellow travelers. We're working at learning Esperanto, but we could use some practice.
