We stayed here exactly 1 year ago. What has changed? Nothing- which is great!! Well, nothing important I should say! Still on a scale of 1-10, have to give it a 20! Same wonderful, warm, intelligent, down to earth, caring, spiritual, easy going, detail oriented, attentive, non-judgmental, considerate, fun loving hosts. Same great comfortable “green” home with many choices for bedding, heat, pillows, teas, coffees, etc. Same great breakfast choices and home- made organic breakfast and fruits. Same great conversations- as much or little as you wish. Personally, it was like coming home to see our favorite old – time friends. OK- you want to know what changed? There are a few changes such as a beautiful new patio and more landscaping- just a hint of how they keep trying to make the place even more lovely that it already is! We hope to see you soon,
Dahlia and Barry
Thank you for the great review, Dahlia & Barry. We had so much fun dancing at MGM Casino with Mr. Smooth, and catching up with you both, two awesome people. Our only regret was that the weather didn't allow for us to enjoy together the new patio, with the soothing fountain. Next time!!
My girlfriend and I used air bnb for the first time on a trip to the Detroit area. We were quite impressed by the hospitality and lovely living space at Ken and Mariel's home. They are very welcoming and warm people that made us feel completely comfortable from the moment we walked in their door (even though it was at 11:00 at night!) Our room and bathroom were both well kept and very comfortable and included all the amenities we needed. In my girlfriends words " it was SO cute!". Our plans during our stay kept us out of the house much of the time, but we always looked forward to retiring to our relaxing bed each night with a nice cup of tea from their brand new tea pot. They're entire home is truly amazing, but my personal favorite was the kitchen with great counter tops, open and spacious and just had a real homey feeling. We were lucky enough to experience the culinary side of our hosts for breakfast on our last morning of stay. With chefs hats and all! The all organic meal was the perfect start to our day. We hope to return to the are soon and would love to stay with them once again. Such a great time! we definitely miss them already being back on the west coast now! thanks so much Ken and Mariel!!
My fiance and I stayed with Ken and Mariel for the NHL Winter Classic game, and being our first Airbnb experience, we were nervous about staying in someone else's home. There was absolutely no reason to worry with Ken and Mariel as our hosts! They are warm, comforting, kind, spiritual people who love to open their home to people from all over the world, and are genuinely interested in knowing about you! Ken's breakfasts in the morning were fantastic and our tour of Ann Arbor was wonderful! Both Ken and Mariel do their best to always acknowledge what your preferences are (food, temperature, etc.), and on our drive around town, they pointed out things that have significant interest to us! It was a lovely personal touch. My fiance commented that it was as though we were staying with an Aunt and Uncle that we hadn't seen in a long time! Thank you Ken and Mariel, and we hope to see you again in the future when we come back to Ann Arbor! God Bless
We appreciate the great review, Stephanie : ) Thanks! It's a great encouragement for others who are considering airbnb for the first time. Reading the reviews (as we do when we stay with other airbnb hosts) can eliminate the fears about staying in another's home. It's a great way to travel -- staying with locals, eh (!) All the best as you plan your wedding and please do stay in touch.
Muchas gracias, Gabriela. Please stay in touch and let us know what University you choose, k?
Translated my Microsoft: "I had a very good experience with Ken and Mariel. They have very good will to advise you where to go and help you in closer to somewhere by car if you need it, including the airport. The room was fantastic! As well as the food and also the internet. Really I pass it very well and would recommend this place fully.
We had a great time staying at Ken and Muriel's place. We were in Ann Arbor for a game weekend and found their place ideal to stay at. Ken and Muriel are great hosts. They made a hearty breakfast with interesting conversation. They obliged to drop us off in downtown AA which is a great help and makes it easy to get around. The room itself was very comfortable and well appointed. I don't think it can get any better tan this.
I only hold Ken and Mariel in the highest regards! I was debating between colleges- in South Carolina, Michigan and New York. I flew in just for a night to check out Eastern, before flying out to India, and then to Morocco. As a sit in India right now, I can confidently say that Ken and Mariel were one of the biggest reasons I ended up choosing to go to Eastern! From the minute Ken picked me up from the airport, driving into the driveway to a sign that welcomed bed, their attention to detail and care for me, the conversations that we were able to have- I honestly wished I'd been able to stay another night! They treated me like their own daughter- full of genuine care. They desired to get to know me better, and are SUCH an awesome couple themselves! I loved their home, I loved their personalities, and I love their vision and passion for life! I left their home thinking I needed to come back to Ypsi if everyone in the city were like them! It honestly probably made my college decision! Best decision to do airbnb- as I made two awesome friends! Who opened their home to me :)
Wow -- thanks, Debby, for the glowing review! We also enjoyed our brief visit and think so highly of you as well. We are happy for you with your decision to choose Eastern in the Great Lakes State, Michigan : ) Please stay in touch and give us a call when you arrive back -- perhaps we can pick you up at the airport to help you get settled. Happy Thanksgiving, too : )
There's no reason now a days to have a bad experience thanks to reviews and ratings on just about everything. After having read all the glowing reviews for the LaFleur's abode, I felt confident going into my first Airbnb experience, that it was going to be a positive one. From the moment Brian and I entered the door, a wonderful sign greeted us personally, "Welcome to your Ann Arbor adventure!" and an adventure it turned out to be! Ken and Mariel are not only wonderful hosts, but they are genuinely kind and INTERESTING people!! You can tell that they do what they love, and love what they do.......and they did everything they possibly could to make our adventure a memorable one!!! Our main goal was to see Ann Arbor and watch a U of M football game. Both Ken and Mariel made sure that we (email hidden) to the town, secured a free and close parking spot to the stadium, and cheered us on with encouraging words as we weathered the rain during an exciting game! Breakfast was such a treat! I loved walking down in the morning to see a 6 foot chef greeting us with a big smile and chef's hat to match! The food was healthy and tasty, and perfect start to our two days there. We had a blast playing ping pong with them, and my favorite, the beautiful bike ride during a sunny, cool fall morning!! They really felt more like friends than hosts, and I can't say enough good things about how well they treated us. The most wonderful thing about traveling for me, is the awesome people that cross your path.....your destination just serves as a backdrop to showcase these treasured encounters. We will treasure our experience in Ann Arbor, the game, but we'll always remember Ken and Mariel for taking the time to make sure that it was an adventure!
Wow -- what a great review, Michelle. Thank you! As you left for home, we remarked at how much we enjoyed our weekend together with you & Brian. You are a beautiful couple and we wish you all the best! Hopefully we will see you for the Helluva Ride next July 2014. FUN!
The room was great! Very cozy and comfortable with a great bathroom and kitchen area. I really appreciated the coffee machine and fruit since I was constantly on the go.
I didn't get a chance to meet Ken, but Mariel was very personable. This was my first AirB&B and I couldn't have stay in a better place. The bar is set HIGH for all other hosts because Mariel was AMAZING. I felt like I was staying with family friends not just a place to crash because Mariel cares about her guests! Thank you!
I would for sure look to stay with them again when the need comes and would recommend her to my friends.
Thank you for your kind words, Susan. You were an awesome guest and I remember our conversations with delight : ) You were so thoughtful and fun. I just wish you could have met Ken; you would have really liked his cooking. Another time? All the best, Mariel PS: GREAT picture By The Way-so you!
Perfect! If there is one word to describe our time with Ken and Mariel it is perfect. They are gracious and wonderful hosts! We enjoyed every minute of our stay! Go blue! Michigan won, so it was good luck to stay with them! We appreciate the time and effort they spent to make us comfortable and to accommodate all of our needs! Thank you Ken and Mariel.
Thank you so much, Sonal. Sharing our home with you and Angie for the Michigan win over Notre Dame was so fun. Ken was glad to be able to drive you from the airport and in & out of Ann Arbor as it gave him some time to get to know you both better. You are welcome here anytime -- and we look forward to definitely celebrating your son's graduation together in the future!
Ken and Mariel clearly enjoy being hosts and sharing their beautiful home with everyone. While we were busy most of the time, every time they had an opportunity, they gave my wife and I genuine care and concern every step of the way. I wish we'd had more free time to enjoy the city of Ann Arbor more, but our hosts could not have been more kind, warm and inviting. They are both very thoughtful people and very knowledgeable about the area- two important things to anyone looking to relocate around town or even just visit the area.
I wish we'd had more of an opportunity to experience Ken's great cooking as well, but seems like we were always on the run. Would not hesitate to recommend them to any of our friends and family and we'll definitely be back to visit!
Thanks, Daniel and Katy, for the kind words. We are thankful for your booking with us and the time we were able to spend with you, limited though it was. Hmm, now that your family has relocated, perhaps we can get together and "experience more of Ken's great cooking"? All the best : ) Ken & Mariel
