Come visit our spacious apartment on the scenic Mendocino Coast, in a sunny meadow surrounded by redwoods. It features a well-stocked kitchen, queen bed, queen-sized futon, couch, and 1.5 baths--a perfect retreat for couples, friends, or family.
Our space is a peaceful and airy 600 square foot second story studio with sunset views out over the treetops. It can comfortably accommodate four on a queen-size bed and futon, with a couch for a fifth person if needed. Children are welcome but we cannot accept pets. We are on 4.25 acres surrounded by redwood forest. Guests can pick their own fresh salads from the garden and, in season, have fresh apples, peaches, and plums, as well as eggs from our chickens. We have done our best--based on our own experience traveling--to equip the apartment with everything needed for independent travelers who like to cook for themselves, though there are many restaurants close by. Our kitchen has ample cookware, many spices, and basic ingredients to supplement food from Harvest Market, our great locally-owned supermarket. Nearby are clean beaches, rocky headlands, and hundreds of miles of biking, hiking, and running trails.
A note on our rates: we are a registered business and pay county bed taxes. These and the cleaning fee are reflected in our prices.
Also, we have a two night minimum for bookings. We are flexible on refunds.
Guests have access to wireless internet, lawn games, a barbecue, an outdoor shower (in addition to the one and a half baths indoors) and a hammock in the redwoods. Those staying over four days can use our washer/dryer.
Interaction with Guests
We live just next door, and are usually available to give our guests advice on local attractions and businesses. In spite of our close proximity, though, the apartment feels private and isolated.
We love our corner of the woods, with horses the closest neighbors, great trail-running and mountain-biking just outside our door. The town of Caspar is ten minutes away with its well-known community center, featuring regular events such as live music, English country and African dance classes, monthly breakfasts and pub nights, as well as wedding hosting. Fort Bragg and Mendocino both offer good shopping, fine dining, and lovely beaches and headlands. The CV Starr Aquatic Center is also close, with swimming, an indoor water park, Zumba and other fitness classes.
Unfortunately, public transportation is scanty in our area. Guests will need a car or bikes to arrive.
No smoking or pets please.
Chad and Marina were great hosts! They provided us with fresh farm eggs, fruit, cream and greens from their garden. They had an awesome Redwood grove, an abalone/fish cleaning table and a beautiful garden. They were very welcoming, we will becoming back.
Marina and Chad were very welcoming; they left clear instructions as to where was what. We had everything and even more than what we needed.
We really appreciated the detailed directions Marina sent us. It sure helped a lot finding the place as regular GPS won't have satellite to locate the house.
The place is absolutely quiet and the owners were very respectful in not disturbing us but we were also conscious about not making any noise which wasn't easy with two active small boys. However, the noise wasn't a factor. Marina and Chad didn't mind it.
The house was perfectly located near a trail that we hiked on to access the beach. Overall, it was a pleasant small getaway from the Bay Area; we will definitely do it again and most likely stay longer.
Thanks Marina & Chad
Most comfortable and serene stay. Everything was spotless and taken care of. The hosts were a pleasure to talk to and were the most accomodating.
We had a lovely visit-- enjoyed the videos, the greenery, and the fresh eggs!
This place is so wonderful! We really enjoyed our long weekend here. Chad and Marina greeted us and made sure we had all the info we needed to have a great time, with recommendations on local places, beaches to visit, etc. The studio is very comfortable (we loved the bathrobes and natural light!) and appreciated getting to use the fully outfitted kitchen. We spent our days hiking in the area and our evenings cooking, reading, and watching movies. It was so great and I would return there for another visit, no question :) Thanks!!
The hosts, Marina and Chad were so nice. Checking in was a simple and quick process. They made great dinner recommendations and told us their favorite breakfast spots. They were both delightful and their 10 month old son is adorable.
I was so happy that I had the opportunity to stay here! Marina and Chad were exceptionally welcoming and provided us with tons of great local information! We did some hiking and foraging along the beautiful coast, and Chad even shared some of his freshly picked wild mushrooms with us for dinner. It is a beautiful and relaxing spot.
We are a family of three, plus one fluffy old kitty and a bunch of spoiled chickens. We love where we live, out amongst the redwoods and pines, surrounded by gardens and fruit trees, just up the coast from Point Arena, where I was born and raised. We love walking the trails to the ocean with our son Oliver, gardening, cooking, dancing to and playing music (we dance, my husband Chad plays), hiking, and reading. We are educators who hope to never be done learning, and travelers taking a break from travel for a bit to raise a child.
