About This Listing
3.3 Km., from the town centre at the gateway to the scenic Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula & with Killarney National Park on the doorstep.
A car is advisable however as it's rural with no streetlights or footpaths & uphill all the way from the town.
My 2 bedroomed cottage is in a great location for guests who want to immerse themselves in Killarney with all it's beauty. The National Parks, Golf & Fishing are all within a stones throw.
The room on offer to guests is a twin bedroom (upstairs) & while the room is not en-suite there is a private bathroom (downstairs) solely for guests use, this bathroom has a bath incorporating a shower so guests have the choice of having either a bath, a shower or both.
Guests may also use the sitting-room but I would ask them to be mindful of their use of this room as this is the space I use for meeting/entertaining family and friends on the occasion that I have personal visitors. It is my home so we have to accommodate each other as best as possible.
Guests also have access to the patio & garden weather permitting.
I also welcome solo travellers like myself who may be interested in the room, just send an enquiry and I can then reply with a special offer.
A continental breakfast is provided until 10.00am which can either be self-service or served by me which ever suits the guest. I will be on hand most mornings but on the odd occasion I may have to be out early but I will try to be here when I have guests:
Tea/Coffee or Herbal Teas
Choice of muesli, weetabix or porridge
Toast with jam/marmalade
Tea/Coffee available whenever you wish.
If guests have any special dietary requirements please let me know beforehand.
Interaction with Guests
Guests will be sharing my home with me & my dog Putu (she's 2 years old), a cross between a Yorkie & Bichon & extremely friendly.
I interact with guests as much or as little as they want it's up to the guest really, but I love to meet new people and I'm always up for a chat, however, if it's privacy you want please bear in mind that it's a small cottage and the only privacy you'll find will be in your own bedroom, unless I'm out or in my own bedroom it's hard to avoid each other :)
I'm on hand if needs be & I will provide any information needed with regards to things to do & see, of which there are plenty.
While check-in is not until 6pm if guests need to check in earlier just let me know in advance and it can be arranged no problem, also if guests aren't checking-in until quite late as a courtesy please let me know as it saves me hanging around when I could be walking the dog or whatever, thank you......
The area is rural even though it's close to the town centre. The cottage is close to the road, however, traffic is minimal as it's a country road and it's surrounded on the other 3 sides by a farm.
The famous Aghadoe Viewing Point is only 3mins., by car or a short walk if willing to risk walking on narrow country roads.
There is no public transport, most visitors hire cars for convenience which I highly recommend as it's all uphill from the town centre and the last .5 km., can be dangerous as no footpath, narrow country road with steep hill and no street lighting.
There are tourist shuttle buses which operate from town to the various tourist attractions around the town and the parks.
Bicycles can be rented in town or close to Muckross National Park.
There are plenty of tour operators to visit the scenic spots + there are public buses between towns.
Kerry airport is 9 km., from the house.
Other Things to Note
This is a bed and breakfast only, not self-catering.
No loud behaviour or drunkenness....
Smoking outdoors only
All social media interaction to be carried out in guests own bedroom as one of my pet hates is someone chatting with me while on social media sites at the same time :)
Kitchen not available for cooking meals apart from breakfast and making tea/coffee.
No food in the bedroom
Check-out has to be a strict 11.00am so I can prepare for the arrival of the next guests
Olive is a great host! Her hospitality and accommodations made our trip to Killarney very special. We enjoyed the food, conversations, and atmosphere of her home. She also went out of her way to help us.
The house was beautiful and the room was just what we needed for our holiday. Olive was very attentive and helpful in giving us suggestions of things to do. The house is located very close to the Killarney National Park and was easily accessible. We enjoyed chatting her during our stay.
Olives cottage was so warm and inviting. Great to come back from a long day of driving and sit by the fire and talk about all the sights we took in. She is a great host and gave great recommendations for my dad and I to make sure we made the most out of the two days we were there. I would stay there again in a heartbeat if i ever decided to come visit again.
Olive was a fantastic host. The description of her room/house was spot on. Her home is just outside Killarney and in a quiet area -easy access to city center (5 mins). She provided any information requested including getting us a table for dinner on a busy weekend in Killarney. Beds were most comfortable with private bathroom (downstairs). Olive provided a nice breakfast and warm company. Thank you!
Our brief stay at Olive's place was absolutely perfect and everything we could of hoped for. Olive and her dog Putu were really welcoming into their beautiful home. She was up for friendly chats and it felt like staying with a old family friend. The breakfast spread was really good and we are 100% satisfied with the whole stay.
WOW! Olive and her place are wonderful! It was a great experience- the only problem was that I couldn't stay longer. When we arrived after a long and frustrating drive across the country, she had tea ready to make for us, and in the morning, she provided a nice array of breakfast options. She also helped us find dining in a town where kitchens are closed by 8 or 9 (not what many Americans are used to), going above and beyond her duty as a host. The bedroom is clean and spacious; however the bathroom is downstairs, so that can be difficult for people with knee problems or a lot of luggage. It's very comfortable, though. And if you're a animal person (like I am), her dog will brighten up your day! I'd recommend Olive and her home to anyone- she's such a cool person with a cool place.
