About this listing
A cosy bed & breakfast 3.3 Km., from the town centre at the gateway to the scenic Ring of Kerry, Dingle Peninsula & with Killarney National Park on the doorstep.
A car is advisable however as it's a rural location with no streetlights or footpaths.
My 2 bedroomed cottage is in a great location for guests who want to immerse themselves in Killarney with all it's beauty. The National Parks, Golf & Fishing are all within a stones throw.
The room on offer to guests is a twin bedroom (upstairs) & while the room is not en-suite there is a private bathroom (downstairs) solely for guests use, this bathroom has a bath incorporating a shower so guests have the choice of having either a bath, a shower or both.
Guests may also use the sitting-room but I would ask them to be mindful of their use of this room as this is the space I use for meeting/entertaining family and friends on the occasion that I have personal visitors. This is my home so we have to accommodate each other as best as possible.
Guests also have access to the patio & garden weather permitting and may also use this space to smoke.
I also welcome solo travellers like myself who may be interested in the room, just send an enquiry and I can then reply with a special offer.
A continental breakfast is provided until 10.00am., which consists of:-
Tea/Coffee or Herbal Teas
Choice of muesli, weetabix or porridge
Toast with jam/marmalade
Tea/Coffee available whenever you wish.
If guests have any special dietary requirements please let me know beforehand.
Interaction with Guests
Guests will be sharing my home with me & my dog Putu (she's 2 years old), a Yorkie/Bichon X who is extremely friendly.
I interact with guests as much or as little as they want it's up to the guest really, but I love to meet new people and I'm always up for a chat, however, if it's privacy you want please bear in mind that it's a small cottage and the only privacy you'll find will be in your own bedroom, unless I'm out or in my own bedroom it's hard to avoid each other :)
I'm on hand if needs be & I will provide any information needed with regards to things to do & see, of which there are plenty.
While check-in is not until 6pm if guests need to check in earlier just let me know in advance and I'll do my best to accommodate you, also if guests know beforehand that they aren't checking-in until quite late please let me know.
The area is rural even though it's close to the town centre. The cottage is close to the road, however, traffic is minimal as it's a country road and it's surrounded on the other 3 sides by a farm.
The famous Aghadoe Viewing Point is only 3mins., by car or a short walk if willing to risk walking on narrow country roads.
There is NO public transport, the majority of visitors hire cars as it's the easiest way to get around and enjoy all that Ireland has to offer. I highly recommend hiring a car as my house is uphill from the town centre and the last .5 km., can be dangerous as no footpath, narrow country road with steep hill and no street lighting.
There are tourist shuttle buses which operate from town to the various tourist attractions around the town and the parks.
Bicycles can be rented in town or close to Muckross National Park if one wishes to cycle around the park.
There are plenty of tour operators to visit the scenic spots + there are public buses between towns.
Kerry airport is 9 km., from the house.
Other Things to Note
This is a bed and breakfast only, not self-catering the kitchen may only be used by guests to make tea/coffee.
Water pressure may not be as good as you're used to.
No loud behaviour or drunkenness...
Kitchen not available for cooking meals, however guests may feel free to make tea/coffee whenever they want.
No food in the bedroom please.
Check-out has to be a strict 11.00am so I can prepare for the arrival of the next guests.
Olive is a great host and made us feel very welcome. She also gave us good suggestions for sightseeing, along with excellent directions to get there. Her home is cozy, beautiful and very clean. We enjoyed visting with her and her dog in the evening, after we returned from driving around the area.
Olive has been more than a perfect host during our stay. Loved having a good chat during breakfast!
She has the most unique and warm places we've visited. Unfortunately we weren't able to stay longer. Would have loved to have a longer chat with Olive but our journey was really tightly planned. Specially with all the sightseeings and tips Olive gave us!
Olive was a great host! She was very attentive, gave us loads of great information about the local area, and laid out a delicious breakfast for us every morning. Her home was spotless, our room was perfectly arranged for us and there was plenty of space to park our vehicle in the drive. The cottage is in a perfect location to explore the Killarney/Kerry area without getting caught up in the bustle of the busy town. I would stay here with her again in a heartbeat!
Thanks a million Lyndsay & Scott for such a wonderful review, not sure that I deserve it really, thanks for being so understanding and for your lovely gift which was totally unexpected, I'll be making crepes with maple syrup as soon as everything has quietened down (website hidden) were great guests and are welcome back anytime.
Staying here was an absolute pleasure. Olive really made us feel at home, which was much needed at that point in our trip! Location was a tad out of the city but that made her Irish cottage feel even more like a true Irish cottage. Could not say anything negative about our stay, would happily do it again next time I make my way to Killarney!
Olive was the perfect host. She was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Her home was immaculate, beautiful, and comfortable. I appreciated her flexibility about our arrival time, and she went above and beyond to make us feel like it was our home, too. For example, we had gotten caught in a rainstorm that day and our clothes were soaked and muddy, so she offered to launder them. Water was provided in our room, and tea and coffee were available in the kitchen. This stay was just the kind of truly local experience that we were hoping for. Olive gave us excellent advice about things to do in the area, and my friend and I really loved our time in her wonderful home. We fell in love with her dog Putu, too! It felt more like staying with an old and dear friend than with a stranger. I highly recommend staying with Olive!
Thanks Gabrielle, it was an absolute pleasure having you guys stay with me I only wish ye could have stayed longer as it was just like having old friends stay over. I really appreciate all the help you gave me and I do hope we'll meet up again sometime in the future. Take care of yourself and enjoy all that lovely sunshine
