Parson's Glen is close to Roan Mountain, Mt. Mitchell and just minutes away from the Penland School of Crafts, Spruce Pine and Bakersville. We are located on 10 secluded acres with striking mountain views, lush landscapes and abundant wildlife. After exploring artist studios, gem mining, river rafting, hiking mountain trails, dining at local restaurants, or a day of shopping, return and relax on our large wrap-around front porch and wait for the fireflies to appear.

The space
With accommodations for up to 7 guests (8 with the pull-out "trundle bed") our "rustic" post-Civil War era farmhouse offers quaint and quirky spaces for all your comforts and needs! Guests can cook out on our outdoor charcoal BBQ grill and build a campfire in our firepit area to roast marshmellows, smores or just relax around the "campfire" at night. We also have a "rustic" outdoor shower (we used a lot of the lumber from our old barn and chicken shed for the exterior shell) that is a real treat for the adventurous.

Guest access
You'll have full access to the entire home, 10 secluded -- mostly wooded acres -- and a great view of the mountains from our wrap around front porch.

Other things to note
We provide all the "essentials" (bath towels, washcloths, hand towels, sheets, bed spreads, pillows -- at least 11 bed pillows covered in custom-made pillow shams -- pillowcases, soap, etc). We also provide an assortment of coffees, teas, oatmeal and other "munchies". Guests should shop for their own groceries, beverages, etc., BEFORE arriving since the closest "real" grocery store is the INGLES store about 7 miles away in Spruce Pine.

Location

Bakersville, North Carolina, United States

Our "old family farmhouse" is located on approximately 10 acres in rural Mitchell County, about 7 miles from Spruce Pine and about 3 miles from Bakersville. We are "visited" daily by deer, wild turkeys, bunnies, squirrels, and lots of songbirds. With luck, you might even see "Ledger Louie" (our resident groundhog -- or "whistle pig" as they are known in the mountains) and "Ledger Louise" (who just gave birth to 4 cute as can be groundhog babies this Spring). You probably won't see them, but you may hear coyotes "on the hunt" at night in the hills surrounding the house. We welcome you to the mountains of North Carolina!!!!

"What a long, strange trip it's been....". I enjoy meeting new people and traveling, and have visited Nigeria, Togo, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Italy, Germany, Scotland, Great Britain, Columbia SA, Japan, Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Panama. I love the mountains of North Carolina and my musical preferences range from classic Rock to Bluegrass/Appalachian/Traditional. My passion is mountain biking and I teach introductory ski lessons at Beech Mountain, NC in the winter. As an AIRBNB host, my goal is for your stay at Parson's Glen to be both enjoyable and memorable.
