Where you’ll be

Hira, Nelson, New Zealand

While Cable Bay is a small, cohesive and friendly community, aside from the superb scenery, we would have to say we just love the the absence of close neighbours!
In this compact rural, seaside locale you can stroll about your extensive coastal native garden without being accosted by anything other than the prolific bird-life (Kereru, Bell-Birds, Tuis, Heron, etc). Cable Bay ocean beach is particularly popular with families for access to both deep and shallow swimming areas (swimming, boating, fishing, snorkelling and diving).
Cable Bay walkway is a moderate fitness walk taking approximately 3 hours, between Cable Bay and The Glen. It is closed for lambing from 1st August to 6th October.
Cable Bay Cafe is just an 8-10 minute walk from the Nest and serves great coffee, breakfasts and lunches. It is open from 10.00am -4.00pm Wed. - Sunday in summer. It's easy to enjoy your takeaway coffee or fish and chips sitting on the beach or up the few steps at the end of the beach, while enjoying the land/seascapes or watching the animals grazing nearby.
Check out the Cable Bay Adventure Park only 6-8 minutes drive away that offers quad bike self drive tours, sky wire, horse treks, paint ball, an argo etc. They also have a licensed cafe open 9.00-5.00pm daily.
Cable Bay Kayaks are based in the bay and provide guided kayaking tours around Pepin Island (and paddle boards).
Below the Nest sit on kayaks, and a rowboat are available for your exclusive use at no extra charge, however please be aware that while we provide basic safety equipment, we take NO responsibility for any accidents or injuries resulting from your use of these amenities. Use of bicycles are also Free.

Hello there!

Our principal aim at the Nest is for you to enjoy a carefree stay in a romantic, secluded seaside/rural atmosphere, ensuring you return home feeling relaxed and refreshed, and ready to tackle the reality of life!

My name is Mike and my wife is Sarah. We're English by nationality but Kiwi in spirit. We moved to the Kapiti coast in 2005 where we watched our 3 kids grow into great adults. We moved to Cable Bay recently for a change of lifestyle and scenery.

We love the Nelson region for its diverse landscapes, fantastic food, wine and hand-crafted beers as well as its unique arts and crafts culture. We love meeting new people from around the world, hearing their stories and sharing our paradise with them. That said, and in keeping with our own travel preferences, we seek to be as unobtrusive as possible, leaving you to pursue your own plans and time-table, if any. We like to think of our small Cable Bay community as the way the world was before it all went mad!

So, come join us here, wind back the years and kick back and relax for a few days.

We only take single party bookings (maximum 2 adults) and in keeping with our own travel preferences, strive to be unobtrusive and leave guests to follow their own time-table, if any. We are of course available to offer information and advice about the Top of the South (Nelson/Able Tasman, Marlborough, Golden Bay, The Lakes) and beyond. We welcome the opportunity to share our local knowledge, be it about local activities (bike trails, short walks, hiking trails, fishing, swimming, diving, wineries, breweries, arts and crafts, places of historical interest, shopping, or places unique to the greater Nelson region.
