The Space

This studio can be described as a cozy, elegant, small and modern being its spa bathroom with steam room with bamboo bench, hot tub and rain shower its best feature. Enjoy the spa bathroom after a long day of visiting our great city or after long hours of work. You can even watch TV while relaxing into the hot tub!.

The studio has been recently renovated, the unit features one open space with living, kitchen and bedroom areas combined. The bed is just above three steps from the main floor level.

A wonderful mix of both modern and antique furnishings adds the perfect touch to this unit's design. The kitchen is complete with New York style appliances. There is a large sofa sleeper that can accommodate 2 extra guests even if the studio is ideally for only 2 guests.

The unit also offers a little outdoor area in between the buildings that reminds us the big apple apartments as well. Your stay at this beautiful unit will not be forgotten! The washer and dryer are shared and coin operated; the laundry room is located next to the studio.

The building is described as "Wonderfully unique" - just two words that only touch on the elegance and wonder that this building invokes. Designed by the world-renown architect James Francis Dunn in 1890, the building itself is a main focal point of both tourists and residents alike. Only 1 block from Alamo Square Park and the famous "Painted Ladies" housing row, this apartment is in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

It has been said of this building that it is "one of three of the most significant architectural dwellings in San Francisco". "If San Francisco is the Rome of the colorist Movement, Alamo Square is the Vatican. The Square is the heart of the greatest collection of Painted Ladies and one of the most important collections of Victorian buildings in the world. Although it doesn't have a Saint Peter's, it does have an Archbishop Mansion." This building is located a block away from the "Belle" facing Alamo Square park and just up 1/2 a block are the famous "Seven Sisters" seen in every collection of photos depicting San Francisco. 1347-45 McAllister Street was designed by James Francis Dunn, started in early 1898 and completed at the end of 1900.

The building is a feature on the Double Decker bus tourists route, as well as walking tours of S.F., and is to be found in coffee table books on San Francisco architecture, magazines, and newspaper articles. The "Belle" survived the great 1906 quake as it is built on bed rock. Look up James Francis Dunn for more photos and other unique buildings he erected in San Francisco during his career.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We had an excellent stay at Bernat's place.
The location was excellent, in the middle of everything we wanted to see in SF & public transport was easy to use (bus 5). A couple of blocks to Divisadero St with shops, restaurants, take-aways etc.
The studio itself was perfect - clean & cosy, obviously excellent bath & shower, very comfortable, use of utensils, microwave etc.
Communication from Bernat was great, very detailed instructions.
We'd definitely stay again on a trip to SF!

  • El lugar es acogedor, muy bien ubicado y bien puesto. Lo mejor, el baño y el vapor. Si buscas un lugar con vistas e iluminado, no es tu sitio.

  • Beautiful apartment – stained concrete floors, brand spanking new appliances and a well-equipped kitchen for cooking. Just enough space for two people, and maybe even four if you're really great friends with them.

My fiancé and I did not come to SFO to sleep. We came to eat our way through the city and see some sights, it was just an added bonus to have a completely renovated and classy basement apartment to hang out in at the end of our long tourist days.

So, it didn't bother us that it was noisy – you can definitely hear people going up and down the stairs, and the laundry room is literally next door, but it's not party central. People were generally moving around and doing laundry during hours when you're probably awake anyway.

For us, the amazing spa bathroom was a true perk. Steam shower with rainfall shower head, jacuzzi tub, plush towels, the works. I've stayed in the W San Francisco and other high-end hotels and this bathroom alone put this $150/night apartment at the top of the list.

From here, you can walk to Divisadero street where Bi Rite market is, grab cheese and wine to enjoy in Alamo Square Park, or you can walk up Fillmore and eat at your choice of 5 star restaurants like Statebird Provisions, Fresca, Dosa, and more.

We had one minor communication issue with housekeeping and as soon as we let Bernat know, we handled it quickly and easily. No further issue.

Highly recommend for a stress free stay in SFO!

  • Nous avons passé un agréable séjour dans cet appartement. Il est bien placé et chaleureux. Seul petite ombre quand nous sommes arrivés l'appartement n'étais pas très propre ce qui est un peu dommage pour un si bel endroit.

    Response from Bernat:

Merci Camille. Desole encore pour l'inconvenience mais je suis content que nous ayons pu envoyer notre femme de menage pour nettoyer!

  • Bernat was super helpful and responsive whenever we needed anything. I'd stay again!

    Response from Bernat:

    Thank you Lauren

  • Great location, tastefully furnished and very clean. The steam shower is amazing! Great way to relax after a day of walking up and down the hills of San Fran. Definitely recommended.

  • Bernart studio is perfect, great location, very clean, cozy, and has one of the best showers ever. Great sauna while taking shower. I am going to miss that.

    December 2013
  • A regrettable experience. The apartment is adjacent to a loud, busy laundry room, and it is beneath a staircase. The noise really travels. After our first sleepless night, we informed Bernat's company that we wanted to move. They were accommodating and refunded our money. Very nice guys, eager to please and to fix these problems.

    Response from Bernat:

I am sorry you didn't like the studio. The unit is a basic accommodation with an amazing spa bathroom and a very good rate. The laundry room next door can only be used certain hours during the day and once you told us about the noise we just asked our housekeeper to stop using it. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience.

  • Bernat was helpful, friendly and super pacient-- especially since we had a few glitches with addresses, locks and doors-- all due to our own error. Bernat was nothing but understanding and polite. We very much appreciated his friendly attitude.

Do ourself a favor and check this charming studio-- te shower and tub will live up to the hype!

    November 2013
  • Great place and super cool neighborhood. Parking was a bit of an issue, but the garages they recommend nearby were very reasonably priced for the city.

    Great steam shower as well!

Would definitely recommend this place to friends.

I love my wife, my parents and my brother, without them nothing would be the same! I like to provide people accommodation during their stay in San Francisco. I also have on Airbnb one cute apartment in the heart of Barcelona. San Francisco is such an amazing city surrounded by history, unique culture and special events throughout the whole year, and I want to make sure my guests enjoy their stay as much as possible! My favorite places in the world are San Francisco, Menorca, Barcelona and a place I haven't been yet. I love the Mediterranean sea and its magic. My motto is: If you can dream it, you can do it!
