We made the trip from Washington DC for a concert at Rocky Mount's awesome new music venue -- The Harvester -- and were very lucky to have stayed at Shellie's place. It was walking distance to the concert, had gorgeous gardens and a lovely wrap around porch. We got a wonderful upgrade to a large carpeted suite that we sadly had to forfeit due to my allergies. The room was lovely and clean, our hosts friendly and breakfast was great!
I had a wonderful stay at the Caboose in the canyon above Malibu. What a jewel of tranquility away from the huddle and bustle of LA but just a stones throw away from it all. Close to great jokes, beautiful beaches all within a quick jaunt from the beautiful, romantic caboose. I will be back again soon!
Shellie was very lovely. It was a wonderful upgrade, A very large suite. We would havev given the inn 5 stars if Shellie would have spent so time at breakfast with us. Breakfast was very good.
Yes, that would have been nice for me too! But an 8am breakfast for a full house, I was like a one armed paper hanger! and had 5 rooms checking out...we have no fairies at the inn. Just my daughter assisting me on that Monday race weekend...ps I am STILL doing room laundry from MONDAY! round the clock...
Come back and see us Chuck...any time! Shellie CHEERS!
Because the Rocky Room was booked, we could stay in the Wash House Cottage, also called the Love Shack. It was a very cute and well decorated cottage. You could tell they put in the effort to make it nice. The area is beautiful and we enjoyed it a lot. If you're willing to pay a extra to be sure that you get a well decorated place in a lovely surrounding and a very nice breakfast, this is the place to go.
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Claiborne House. We arrived in Rocky Mount late in the evening and were able to do a late self check-in, with instructions for our stay awaiting us at the door. We were just a short drive to dinner (although it's a small town, so restaurants close very early, even on weekends) and were able to bring our food back to the house to enjoy dinner on the porch. The gardens surrounding the house are lovely and sitting on the porch enjoying the evening breeze was very therapeutic. Accommodations were traditional victorian with the wonderfully cozy and unique feel that bed & breakfasts often have. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed the company and conversation of the rest of the guests. On our way out, Shellie was kind enough to give us a few suggestions for hiking and directions too. It was a great place for a quiet summer get-away.
We arrived in the middle of a howling rainstorm. In just the brief walk from the car park to the front door we felt that we had been in a pool. Shellie greeted as at the door with warm towels and a bright smile. This is just one example of her gracious hospitality!
Our room was warm and comfortable- hard to accomplish in an old house with the winds raging- we did not feel even a whisper of cold.
Breakfast was fantastic! Granola with bananas, blueberries and yoghurt followed by pecan pancakes, scrambled eggs, and a generous helping of thick sliced bacon.
Thank you Shellie- we hope to stay with you again!

We had a great time at this beautiful, immaculately kept traditional B and B with it's charming collection of traditional decorations and antique furniture.
We didn't have a chance to explore Rocky Mount ( lists of restaurants and events were provided) but the location offers easy access to Roanoke with it's many excellent restaurants, events , and sites of interest. The hearty, beautifully presented, breakfast of eggs and pancakes was delicious. Tea coffee and soft drinks were always available .Shellie is a charming and attentive host.
All in all a very enjoyable experience.
