About the neighbourhood:
Centrally located in Old West on the posh, beautiful Eerste Helmersstraat, you’ll be close to it all: a ten-minute walk to the nightlife at Leidseplein, two-minutes to the city’s largest park, the Vondelpark, and a mere seven-minute walk to Museumplein with all the famous musea of Amsterdam.
You’ll have easy access to plenty of public transport – trams 1, 7, 17, 3 and 12 are all within short walking distance and will take you anywhere you need to go in the city.
Just around the corner you’ll find all the amenities you need from supermarkets to cafes, a pharmacy, restaurants, coffee shops (Amsterdam-style), bars, boutiques, a local market, eco-friendly organic stores, and so on.
I am looking forward to your visit.
With kind regards,
Guest Room 1 (topfloor). The toilet on the topfloor will only be used by the guests from Guestroom 1 and 2.
Interaction with Guests
We will have contact during the checkin proces. You shall receive your own key, so you decide whenever you come and go. During your stay you keep the possibility to maintain contact via mobile/sms/(website hidden).
This is a very lively neighbourhood close to the famous Vondelpark and with many restaurants around. A mere 10 minutes walk through the park will bring you to the Museumplein with the Rijksmuseum and van Gogh museum. The neighbourhood is close to the centre, but it is not where the majority of the tourists stay.
The most common transport from Schiphol to the accommodation: 1) at Schiphol you can take a taxi, which is a 20 minutes ride to the apartment OR 2) you take the train from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal and then take tram 1 to tramstop "Jan Pieter Heijestraat (Overtoom)". This should take approx. 35-45 minutes OR 3) you take the train from Schiphol to the station of Lelylaan (only 1 stop from Schiphol) and then take tram 1 to tramstop "Jan Pieter Heijestraat (Overtoom)". This should take no more than 25 minutes from Schiphol. From the last tramstop to the accommodation is only 200m. Your accommodation is part of a 5 storey building. The right door is my own private entrance at the groundfloor. Just ring at my doorbell, we go up together via the left door of the building to your accommodation. I shall explain a few things about the accommodation and give the keys to you. At the check out, you can leave the keys through my mailbox.
Other Things to Note

Please treat the place like it´s yours, with respect to the neighbours and leave the apartment the way it was when you arrived. You can enter or leave the building at any time day and night, but try to be as quiet as possible when you enter or leave the building. Smoking in the apartment is allowed, but please open one of the windows during smoking.
I had an amazing time in Amsterdam, partly because of the guest room Wilbert provided. I stayed with a friend in Guest House 1 and it was very roomy. There were two beds, a small kitchenette, a huge wardrobe, a desk, AND a shower in a single space. The pictures honestly don't do it justice. We were both comfortable and warm snuggled up under the clean comforters that Wilbert provided (side note: it was raining and snowing the weekend that we visited). There were also extra pillows and comforters in the wardrobe. We were provided with our own key so we could come and go as we pleased (quietly, of course).
The location is very central. It is about a 25-30 minute walk to the Van Gogh museum and it is surrounded by various shops and restaurants. There are also several tram lines around the location, but you could honestly walk or bike anywhere. Wilbert has a couple of bikes he was willing to lend us and, had the weather been nicer, I would have taken him up on his offer. My advice when you go to Amsterdam: USE THE BIKES!
Wilbert was also a great host! He left us alone for the most part, but was very accommodating if we asked him any questions. He invited us to check in earlier than the time he expected us and carried my friend's luggage up 4 flights of stairs. The room was also provided with tour guides and discount coupons, which was really convenient when I wanted to go to the Heineken experience.
For the price we paid, this place was amazing! I highly recommend it and I will be using it again if I ever go back to Amsterdam.
We stayed in guest room 1 for 5 nights and I can't fault it in anyway, the shower was amazing and the little kitchen was cool. I recommend to anybody visiting the city. It's a 10 minute tram to the centre and the stop is very close to Wilberts.
Hi. My name is Christina and I booked the Guest Room 1 for 4 days. First of all I have to say that the room looks even better from the photos. Its clean, tidy, roomy, with all the facilities a person or more might need (towels, information about the city, shampoo and shower gel, hair dryer etc) and has a very good light from the window, which you can open it if it is needed. The carpets are new and you can feel that you are at your bedroom and not at some kind of a different room so you will never feel the room cold because of the big boiler the building has and provides heating and hot water at all times.
I travel alone in Amsterdam and I must say that I was more than happy from the amenities I found in the room. Its so close to restaurants, bars, shops and within minutes by taking the tram you are in city centre. Simple as that.
BUT the HIGHLIGHT is Wilbert!! This man gives you a very welcome presence, he is willing to help you with the luggages since its 4 floors to Guest Room 1, and you can realise from the first minute that he cares about the people that are going to spend some time in his building.
He doesn't bother his guests but he is willing to answer your questions even from email or text very soon. I got the feeling that he is a person that cares a lot, he is very smart and interesting person and he is from the people that you would have wanted to be as your landlord. It was the 2nd time I visited Amsterdam but the first time at Wilbert's place and I have to say that Im so pleased with my staying at his that if there is going to be a 3rd travel at this city I will definitely book at the same room because of the very warm welcome feeling I got from Wilbert.
If you are reading this review then you shouldn't have second thoughts of booking with Wilbert because I must say that when I read the reviews before I book any room, the reason that lead me to book with him was the so many good words I read about everything, and at the moment 132 reviews saying only good words for him and his rooms I don't think is accidentally. Do not hesitate for a minute and do a favour to yourself and friends and stay at his. You wont feel sorry, I guarantee you that considering that Im not an easy person to please :)
Great room and close to everything. The little kitchen area was perfect. There was a faint smell of tobacco smoke but it didn't bother me. I would definitely stay here again! Remember to make use of the free bikes!
Kamer is top! Lekker warm indien gewenst, goed bed, frigo, magnetron.
Toffe verhuurder.
Good location for me, close to a tram stop (which gets you into the center in about 10 mins), and within walking distance to Leidseplein. Also, a supermarket just around the corner. Nice quiet street. Room was great - bed was comfy, room was warm etc etc
Part of the AirBnB experience is the host, and Wilbert sums up what a good host is - friendly, helpful, and good conversation.
I definitely recommend this host and room.
