Experience New York like a local! Located on the southern end of the Lower East Side and eastern edge of Chinatown, this apartment is in a neighborhood where the Latino-American, Asian-American, and African-American cultures of New York City meet mixed in with young professional internationals like myself. Whether you live in a city or are travelling, location is everything, and the Lower East Side is perfectly situated to launch many adventures across NYC. The Lower East Side is also one of the last authentic neighborhoods in the City. The apartment is very close to the Manhattan Bridge and very well situated to access other popular areas of the City, including Brooklyn (only 2 stops on the F train). The subway is literally across the street from the building (East Broadway - F train). Walking distance to Delancey-Essex subway (F, M, J, Z trains) and Grand subway (B, D). Close proximity to many other great neighborhoods such as the East Village (15-20 min walk), Chinatown (5-10 min walk), Soho and Little Italy (15-20min walk). The East Broadway Citi bike station (bikes for hire similar to Velib in Paris and Bixi in Toronto or Montreal) is right around the corner so you could easily opt for cycling around the City over walking, public transit, or taxi. Speaking of taxis, there’s also a taxi stand next to the Citi bikes in case you need one. Very close to Seward Park and the infamous Lower East Side skate park. Steps to the water's edge (East River), great for walks, runs, or views of the Manhattan Bridge, Financial District, and Brooklyn.
Your private bedroom is one of two in a traditional NYC “railroad” apartment in a recently renovated pre-war building. The room contains a double/full bed (real, NEW, comfortable, pillow top bed), closet, window, hardwood floors, small storage cabinet, small bookshelf, wall hooks, small bedside table, and full-length mirror. The apartment is located on the third floor (2 flights of stairs) of the building. The building is quiet, safe, and well kept considering its age and has been renovated relatively recently. The roof is also accessible which has pretty great views of the City. As this is my home and studio, I run a pretty tight ship, meaning that I keep things extremely clean and tidy, for both myself and my guests. In return, I expect a basic level of respect and care from my guests of my space and my things.
I am quiet, clean, friendly, respectful and on most days studious. Since my studio is located within the apartment, I work from home when I am not teaching. My studio is open and connected to the common space of the apartment but it is tucked away from the kitchen area. My bedroom is on the other side of the apartment therefore, the bedrooms remain private. There is one bathroom and I am the only person that you will share it with (aside from your travel companion, if you have one) ☺. I have a fully outfitted kitchen with new appliances that you are welcome to use. I designed, made, and installed everything in the apartment and as such, it has an “artsy” flavour or elements of my creative identity that creative types might appreciate.
There is a laundromat conveniently located downstairs right next door to the building in case you would like to wash your clothes. The post office is within 5 minutes walking distance. A number of local grocers and convenience stores in the immediate neighborhood as well as restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops such as The Fat Radish, Skal, and Dimes, to name a few. I especially like that there are a significant number of small galleries and privately owned shops by local designers and makers in the area. You can easily spend your entire trip right here in this neighborhood. Outside of work, I find that I rarely leave the neighborhood. One of the things I like most about the apartment is that the building and street is quiet yet the neighborhood is very much alive which makes it possible to sleep well or to go out and have fun at your doorstep!
Wifi and linens (towels and bedsheets) included.
Heat (radiant) and A/C.
Singles or couples are fine. Sorry no children and no pets.
No smoking, no drugs, and no outside guests in the apartment please.
No curfew - come and go as you please. (You will have your own key.)
Check-in and check-out are flexible so long as you coordinate with me in advance following a confirmed booking.
Preference will be given to longer stays.
If interested, please respond with a little info about yourself.
Thank you and hope to see you soon in New York!
All my best,
Guests will have access to the common/shared areas (kitchen, bathroom) and their own private bedroom, of course.
My studio, bedroom, and closets/storage are off-limits to guests.
Only one set of keys are given to guests whether traveling alone or with company.
Interaction with Guests
Since I have multiple jobs and work a lot, I don't have much time to socialize unfortunately. When I can, I love to join guests for drinks, dinner, music, or other events and to take them to my favorite spots in the city.
I typically see and chat with guests early in the morning and in the evening. I am however, always accessible by phone, text, or email to answer any questions and in the morning and evening I do my best to help guests with any information they may need.
East Broadway F train directly across the street from building.
Essex-Delancey F M J Z trains walking distance
Grand Street B and D trains walking distance
Other Things to Note
Due to NYC laws, I am only accepting longer-term reservations. If your stay is close to the minimum, send me a message as I may still be able to accommodate you. I use Airbnb as an alternative method of having a responsible and respectful roommate and not as a means of business. I have had a number of great roommates from abroad who were living in NY while on work assignments, fulfilling internships, or visiting family. This is a great/appropriate place for that sort of thing. This is a place for people looking for a (temporary) home and not a hotel.
No children, no pets, no smoking, no drugs, and no outside guests please. No exceptions.
No curfew - come and go as you please but I would appreciate quiet after around 11:00pm.
If you use the kitchen, please clean up after yourself.
Please do not touch, photograph, or duplicate anything in my studio. The same goes for any other artwork or personal effects around the apartment.
My studio, bedroom, and closets/storage are off-limits to guests.
Please do not slam doors.
Please do not lose the keys. They are difficult and expensive to replace and I will have to take it out of your security deposit which will not be a nice situation for either of us.
The security deposit is primarily for the protection of my personal possessions. Since I work from home, I have a lot important things in my studio that I worry about. So long as you return the place to the way it was received and haven’t damaged, lost, or taken anything, there’s no reason why I wouldn’t refund the security deposit. I have yet to experience any problems with Airbnb guests and as such I have always returned the security deposit.
You're welcome to use the kitchen area common space but please refrain from noisy activity in this area. For instance, if you want to watch a movie or television on your laptop or portable device, please do so in your bedroom. The common space is shared and thus, on the "quiet" side since it is located next to my studio space.
I'm pretty easy going and personable and it's important to me that the apartment is comfortable for both you and I. The only things that I am sensitive about are noise and my studio possessions/work since I work out of the apartment evenings and weekends.
Kind thanks in advance for your observation of the house rules.
We had a great time at Tanjas home. Near to the subway, easy to reach from JFK. Tania was working a lot while we have been to NY but she managed to give us the keys and everything we needed. Next trip to NY I would stay again at Tanias home.
I had such a great time with Tania in her lovely and cosy lower east side apartment! Everything is super clean and Tania is so welcoming and kind. I was there for 8 weeks and loved it! Thank you!
How lucky were we! Impressive room, incredible host and sensational location. This was our first airbnb experience and it was fantastic. We had 6 brilliant weeks with Tania. She is the best host (considerate, generous, fun and has superb taste) and her place is sincerely ideal. The set-up and location! The photos are accurate, the room is a typical size for NYC, but Tania has optimised the space. We had plenty of room for two people (even with significant luggage!!!).The bed is comfy and the room has aircon, a window and everything you need. The rest of the place is spotless with a well set up kitchen.
We could not have been in a better area! Convenient, affordable and super fun! With the F train literally at your door step. It's an excellent line to explore the rest of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Tania provided us with some solid recommendations (she is a guru of the area) as there is an endless list of great bars, restaurants and cafés in the Lower east side, East village and Chinatown. A cheap laundry and a yummy 24hr corner store are your neighbours. Also only a block away from the water with access to bike/walking track, exercise equipment and views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges.
We were sad to leave Tania and the area, if it wasn't already booked we would've stayed longer, but we'll definitely look to book again when we come back. Thank you Tania!
We had an awesome time at Tania's apartment. Tania is the best and friendliest host you can imagine for a stay in New York City. Even though she had to leave the city due to family emergencies before we arrived, she organised everything so great for us that we could still stay at her place and her friend Eric welcomed us so nicely that we felt like staying at a friend's home. Tania came home a couple of days later so we were still able to meet her in person :o)
Tania's place is very nice, beautiful decorated and the cleanest place I've ever stayed at in NYC (and I've seen and lived in lots of places in NYC before!). I really loved the place! She has a brand new bathroom which is also nice. Tania made us feel like being at home in another city and I would for sure recommend her/her place to anyone I know anytime! The subway station "East Broadway" is right next door and you can get downtown easily in about 10 min. The beach at Coney Island is also just 30 min. away on the subway (take the subway stop at the NY Aquarium and go to the beach there - it is more quiet, way nicer and not so crowded!).
Since you live close to China Town - our ultimate tip: You have to go to the secret bar "Apotheke" on a tuesday night when there is live music - it is an amazing experience!! (Ask Tania for directions).
I will definitely stay at Tania's place again for my next New York trip. :o)
Tania was a great host! You have enough space for all your stuff when staying a few days. If you have any questions, Tania is very helpful and well prepared for her guests. We loved staying at Tania's place!
It was the second time we rented through airbnb and once again we were very pleased. Tania's apartment matching very well with the description and it was perfect for our needs. The location is very good; quiet but still with many restaurants, shops, galleries etc, and subway station close by. Tania is very friendly, hospitable and occurring and it was a pleasure to stay with her and hope we can do it again. Thank you Tania!
Tania is a very nice host. We really enjoy our stay with her. She was always helpful, considerate and answered our Million questions. Her flat is very clean and stylish and the bed. was so comfortable. We were very glad to find this central located Place in NY. It is quite easy to go into the city. The Subway is a few steps away and there were a plenty of Food restaurants close by. When we come back to NY we would chose this Place again.
Thank you Tania.
