Apartment - Private room · Madison Street, New York, NY 10002, United States

The Space

Experience New York like a local! Located on the southern end of the Lower East Side and eastern edge of Chinatown, this apartment is in a neighborhood where the Latino-American, Asian-American, and African-American cultures of New York City meet mixed in with young professional internationals like myself. Whether you live in a city or are travelling, location is everything, and the Lower East Side is perfectly situated to launch many adventures across NYC. The Lower East Side is also one of the last authentic neighborhoods in the City. The apartment is very close to the Manhattan Bridge and very well situated to access other popular areas of the City, including Brooklyn (only 2 stops on the F train). The subway is literally across the street from the building (East Broadway - F train). Walking distance to Delancey-Essex subway (F, M, J, Z trains) and Grand subway (B, D). Close proximity to many other great neighborhoods such as the East Village (15-20 min walk), Chinatown (5-10 min walk), Soho and Little Italy (15-20min walk). The East Broadway Citi bike station (bikes for hire similar to Velib in Paris and Bixi in Toronto or Montreal) is right around the corner so you could easily opt for cycling around the City over walking, public transit, or taxi. Speaking of taxis, there’s also a taxi stand next to the Citi bikes in case you need one. Very close to Seward Park and the infamous Lower East Side skate park. Steps to the water's edge (East River), great for walks, runs, or views of the Manhattan Bridge, Financial District, and Brooklyn.

Your private bedroom is one of two in a traditional NYC “railroad” apartment in a recently renovated pre-war building. The room contains a double/full bed (real, NEW, comfortable, pillow top bed), closet, window, hardwood floors, small storage cabinet, small bookshelf, wall hooks, small bedside table, and full-length mirror. The apartment is located on the third floor (2 flights of stairs) of the building. The building is quiet, safe, and well kept considering its age and has been renovated relatively recently. The roof is also accessible which has pretty great views of the City. As this is my home and studio, I run a pretty tight ship, meaning that I keep things extremely clean and tidy, for both myself and my guests. In return, I expect a basic level of respect and care from my guests of my space and my things.

I am quiet, clean, friendly, respectful and on most days studious. Since my studio is located within the apartment, I work from home when I am not teaching. My studio is open and connected to the common space of the apartment but it is tucked away from the kitchen area. My bedroom is on the other side of the apartment therefore, the bedrooms remain private. There is one bathroom and I am the only person that you will share it with (aside from your travel companion, if you have one) ☺. I have a fully outfitted kitchen with new appliances that you are welcome to use. I designed, made, and installed everything in the apartment and as such, it has an “artsy” flavour or elements of my creative identity that creative types might appreciate.

There is a laundromat conveniently located downstairs right next door to the building in case you would like to wash your clothes. The post office is within 5 minutes walking distance. A number of local grocers and convenience stores in the immediate neighborhood as well as restaurants, bars, cafes, and shops such as The Fat Radish, Skal, and Dimes, to name a few. I especially like that there are a significant number of small galleries and privately owned shops by local designers and makers in the area. You can easily spend your entire trip right here in this neighborhood. Outside of work, I find that I rarely leave the neighborhood. One of the things I like most about the apartment is that the building and street is quiet yet the neighborhood is very much alive which makes it possible to sleep well or to go out and have fun at your doorstep!

Wifi and linens (towels and bedsheets) included.

Heat (radiant) and A/C.

Singles or couples are fine. Sorry no children and no pets.

No smoking, no drugs, and no outside guests in the apartment please.

No curfew - come and go as you please. (You will have your own key.)

Check-in and check-out are flexible so long as you coordinate with me in advance following a confirmed booking.

Preference will be given to longer stays.

If interested, please respond with a little info about yourself.

Thank you and hope to see you soon in New York!

All my best,

Guest Access

Guests will have access to the common/shared areas (kitchen, bathroom) and their own private bedroom, of course.

My studio, bedroom, and closets/storage are off-limits to guests.

Interaction with Guests

Since I work a lot, have fairly irregular hours, and I use Airbnb in place of having permanent roommates, I don't have much time to spend with guests.

I typically see and chat with guests early in the morning and in the evening. When I can, I'll join guests for drinks, dinner, music, or other events. I am, however, always accessible by phone, text, or email to answer any questions and in the morning and evening I do my best to help guests with any information they may need that day or the following day.

Getting around

East Broadway F train directly across the street from building.

Essex-Delancey F M J Z trains walking distance

Grand Street B and D trains walking distance

  • I spent the month of February at Tania's place, and had the best time! Tania was the most wonderful, hospitable and funny roommate I could have wished for. The house is clean and quiet (!), but close to all highlights of New York. To me, as a temporary employee in NY, a very relaxed place to get back to after a day at work. Highly recommended to everyone.

  • We enjoyed our stay at Tania's apartment. Her room is perfect for two people and the apartment is very clean. We felt comfortable.
Its location in Lower East Side is perfect: located next to Chinatown, it is really easy to reach interesting places from it. The Subway station (East Broadway) on Line F is a few steps away and allows to go to Brooklyn and the 34th (Penn Station) and the 42th (Time Square) streets on the 6th Avenue.

About Tania, she is a great host. Nice and always ready to help. She has also prepared some "tips and tricks" to discover NYC and a subway map.

It was our first Airbnb experience and it has been a real success!

  • Tania is one of the best hosts! She has a well designed and clean apartment on the 3rd/4th floor less than a minute from the subway. Despite the stairs, she helped us lift our enormous luggage up and down the stairs which I thought was so considerate and nice of her! On very icy nights, she even offered tea (the cinnamon vanilla was really nice). She was also a well prepared host, having a print out of tips, a mini subway map (godsend!) and emailed/texted me to make sure we were okay. Her fruits was also available to us. She is also well travelled and offered tips to our next visit to Mexico which was fantastic. She is wonderful, clean, easy going and well organised! She was a pleasure to stay with! Would definitely recommend Tania and her apartment!

  • Tania was a great host. Her place is very nice, clean and so quiet for NY. The room is comfortable and a very helpful list of addresses was here to make us discover nice places all over New York. If we come back in New York, we'll go back to Tania's appartment :)

  • We enjoyed our stay at Tania's apartment a lot. She is a very friendly and helpful person, and we felt very welcome.
The room is perfect for a couple. The location in the Lower East Side is very well situated for walks to restaurants, Chinatown, Little Italy and other places full of character.
The metro line F is a few steps away, and so it is dead easy to travel around the city.
There are plenty of food stores in the neighborhood and chic cafes, too.
Tania knows her city very well, and she loves to help and give advice.
The rooms are very clean and Tania keeps them in immaculate shape.
    We would certainly visit again!

Grazie Tania...grazie

  • Tania's place is clean & quiet away from the hipstercore with great new restaurants opening up south Lower East Side. She is a cool welcoming host who has created a studio in her place. She has a busy schedule but makes time to make you feel comfortable. For NYC, it's very clean which is great to come home too!
