About this listing
A place for solitude, rest and relaxation, from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna and the east side of the Big Island. Our guests leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.
Welcome to Paradise.
Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here.
You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop, toaster, coffee maker, and all necessary kitchen utensils.
Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture), Kalani Retreat (yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture), and Polestar, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement.
Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island.

In our opinion, Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the richness of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the furthest eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirits, and desiring to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there are a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.
The only public transport is the Hele bus which comes through Leilani and from and to Pahoa and Hilo.
Other Things to Note
Check out Puna Happenings on the web for daily activities. It is updated weekly on Sunday.
It is our expectation that only mindful and thoughtful people will come here. We don't need to make rules for them. We believe our guests follow the Golden Rule--treat others as you would like to be treated.
We do not have a cleaning fee in order to keep rates low. Please leave the place as though you were staying at friends.
Konrad and Robert were wonderful hosts. The cottage was very comfortable and spacious. We lived sitting out on the lanai looking out at the beautiful yard. The tips of what to do were really helpful. We enjoyed two really peaceful, fun days in the area. The location is great and easily accessible to lots of fun activities. Thanks.
Un séjour parfait avec une maison moderne et tout confort! Robert & Konrad sont très sympathiques et très accueillants. La corbeille de fruit et le petit déjeuner furent très apprécies. Merci pour tout! Mahalo!
We had the most amazing stay thanks to Robert and Konrad. The entire home, but especially the porch is lovely. The house is clean and cozy and they have all amenities available that you might need. Listen to their suggestions too...they know what they are talking about. A great time on the Big Island for us, for sure.
Konrad and Robert made us feel very welcome with a beautiful fruit tray and provisions already in the refrigerator. The property is stunning!
Konrad and Robert's place is in beautiful Pahoa with a very lovely tropical garden. Many super relaxing chills on the deck listening to the frogs were had. The apartment was comfy and clean, just fit 4 girls with lots of stuff after a month of traveling. Having a second outdoor shower was really fun (and useful) too. Konrad and Robert were friendly and always happy to help with any questions we might have. We loved our stay and would definitely recommend!
Konrad/Robert were very welcoming! This place was even better than the pictures...
About the Host, Konrad & Robert
I moved to the Puna District of Big Island in 2013 with my partner, Konrad Kumorkiewicz, from our home on Long Island, New York. Here we were so fortunate to buy an incredibly beautiful home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on an exquisitely landscaped acre.
I am a life-long educator who works with middle and high school students. I am involved helping students here at the Kua O Ka La Public Charter School in Pahoa. I am also very involved in doing men's work through the ManKind Project (MKP) and Boys to Men organization. I am currently the chair of the World Elder Gathering, an MKP event that will gather men and women, young and old at the Kalani Retreat Center in Oct. 2015.
My partner designs dance customs for adults and children for a dance catalogue company. He has a passion for renovating and was responsible for creating the new self-contained space for our Air BnB clients.
Together we work on gardening and landscaping.
We seek to create a beautiful, quiet, serene place so our guests feel like they are at home.
My life motto is to serve as a channel for divine love through my truth telling and compassion by which others and myself will experience our glory.
