A place for solitude, rest and relaxation, from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna and the east side of the Big Island. Our guests leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.
Welcome to Paradise.
Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here.
You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop, toaster, coffee maker, and all necessary kitchen utensils.
Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Yoga Oasis, Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture), Kalani Retreat (yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture), and Polestar, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement.
Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island.
The price includes Hawaiian Excise Tax of 13.41%. There are no cleaning fees.
Fruit and vegetable gardens, 2 acres of grounds.
Interaction with Guests
We are here to assist to help our guests have a fabulous time. If guests have any particular needs, they should contact us. Although we live on the property, guests have their own private space. How much we interact is solely at your discretion. If guests have any questions, they should not hesitate to knock on our door.
In our opinion, Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the richness of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the furthest eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirits, and desiring to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there are a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.
The only public transport is the Hele bus which comes through Leilani and from and to Pahoa and Hilo.
Other Things to Note
Check out Puna Happenings on the web for daily activities. It is updated weekly on Sunday.
It is our expectation that only mindful and thoughtful people will come here. We don't need to make rules for them. We believe our guests follow the Golden Rule--treat others as you would like to be treated.
We do not have a cleaning fee in order to keep rates low. Please leave the place as though you were staying at friends.
It was 12 points out of 10! Super clean, very tastefully decorated, better than 5 stars resort. Hudge comftable outdoor space for breafast/dinner and sofas to relax and enjoy birds and froggs singing. We really felt ourselves as royal quests. Fruits, eggs, creal, butter etc was waiting for us on arrival. Robert showed us arround and encouraged to pick fruits from theyre organical garden. We met also Konrad who was also wery warm and welcoming person.
TIP: From inhouse suggestion list we would reccomend Hawaiian Style dinner place in Hilo, close to airport. Hudge plates, so delicious food, specially lamb.
Only negative thing was that we stayed there only 2 nights, we would love to come back for longer stay.
Thank you Robert and Konrad for so pleasant stay!!!
Mahalo nui loa for your very sweet and thoughtful response. We too would love to have you return in the near future. We know that only two nights at our place is not enough time to really soak in the magic and awe of this area. It is so gratifying for us to see our guests so enjoy our place. Spread the peace and joy in your life. Aloha.
Our stay at Konrad's and Robert's place was awsome. If you like the pictures in the internet you will love it there because in reality their place is more beautiful than the photos on the internet. The rooms are cleaner than clean and thier garden is really beautiful. Their selfgrown fruits are delicious.
During our stay a huge storm destroyed the powerlines in their region and we had no electricity and water but this was not really a big problem because Konrad & Robert did everything to make our stay enjoyable and took care about us in all belongings. Living without power and water was for us no drama because we did not miss anything.
We could fully recommend to stay at their place. Should I go to the Big Island a 2nd time I hope I can stay their again.
My friend and I had a very peaceful stay at Konrad and Robert's place. A warm welcome, the view from the lanai is like a little forest. Very clean, nice fruits and vegetables waiting for us. Sleep like babies with sounds of nature. The book for guests was very clear. The suggested activities or where we could find to find groceries and restaurants were very good choices for us. A guide of the island help us as well with useful maps ans informations. We would have stayed longer but it was already booked! Much more to say but just go there! It s awesome and 10 minutes away from the sea!
Beautiful beautiful peaceful place! Very nice, friendly and helpful host. Very clean, well equipped place. Perfect!
Robert and Konrad were fantastic hosts. We loved the apartment. It was clean and exactly as described.
