About this listing

A place for solitude, rest and relaxation, from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna and the east side of the Big Island. Our guests leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.

The space

Welcome to Paradise.
Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here.
You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop with two burners, toaster-oven, Keurig coffee maker, French Press, Magic Bullet (shake maker) and all necessary kitchen utensils and condiments (e.g., coffee, tea, salt, pepper, olive oil, basic spices).
Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture), Kalani Retreat (yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture), and Polestar, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book (translated into Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Korean) that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement.
Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island.

We had a great experience in your beautiful house and in your beautiful garden. Thanks for the warm welcome of Robert and the welcome pack (much appreciated - thanks ) The fruits from the garden is a plus. The appartment was very nice, clean and confortable. The kitchen is small but enough to cook some quick meals. We loved the lanai and his BBQ. Well located to visit the area. Lava view is at 15 in. (Frontal torch are available). Robert let you feel like at home. So peaceful. So don't hesitate just reserve at Konrad & Robert

Our friends had previously stayed here and had recommended it such superlative terms that I thought the real thing couldn't possible live up to their description -- but it did! We had a wonderful time drinking coffee on our private porch in the mornings and listening to the wonderful symphony of birds every morning as the sun rose over the forest. The town of Pahoa is adorable, and Robert and Conrad's place is a great base for exploring the beautiful area of Puna and Hilo. Robert and Conrad were extremely helpful in guiding us to the best swimming and snorkeling spots suited to our ability level, and to seeing the incredible sight of hot lava flowing into the ocean, just a 15 minute drive from their place. Thank you for a wonderful experience! We will be back.

Like Robert says... Breathe in Beauty, Peace & Light...and this is exactly what they give, sharing with you their love of this incredible Island of beauty, so that you can take away with you the memory of their piece of paradise. This was our first experience with Air B&B and we couldn't be more pleased. It started with Robert responding back to me within a few hours of putting in my request and that's with a 6 hour time difference. Konrad greeted us when we arrived and showed us around. A bowl of fruit was waiting for us in the living room and chocolate and groceries in the fridge. We didn't have to worry about running out to shop. All we had to do was relax and take in the beauty. Robert introduced himself later when he got home. You could feel the peace & tranquility surrounding him. The grounds, trees and organic garden (which we used) were absolutely beautiful. The apartment was fantastic. Clean and equipped with everything you would need. And our hosts were wonderful and beautiful people. Our location was central for what we wanted to do and we did a lot. We enjoyed the Gecko's entertaining us and the Coqui Frogs singing us to sleep each night. The whole experience was more than we expected. I could go on and on but I would just be repeating what everyone else had said. So, if you are visiting the Island for vacation, business, rest & relaxation or to heal your soul...this is the place to be. Mahalo for sharing Robert & Konrad, we are Blessed to have had the opportunity to experience your part of Paradise and to have me you. Blessings to you both Aloha, A hui hou Donna, Charlene & Angie

What a wonderful place you have for people to enjoy all that the Big Island has to offer. So peaceful and we had all the amenities we needed! I would recommend this beautiful place to anyone wanting a quality place to stay in Hawaii. They are so very helpful in suggesting places to go and things to see. The best airbnb I have stayed at to date! Thank you so very much...We felt like family :)

This place is amazing. Very nice and peaceful neighborhood, big beautiful garden. The hosts provide with lots of toiletries, groceries, and fresh fruits from the garden. The kitchenette is very small, so washing dishes is not very comfortable, but there are nice places to eat in Pahoe and elsewhere and other things provided by the hosts definitely compensate for it. The hosts provided even a crib and toys for our toddler. They are definitely some of the best hosts I've met. An example how everyone should run their business! There's also a nice porch. The only minus was mosquitos. They came out mainly at sunset, so if you don't want to put chemicals on yourself, maybe spend that time indoors. But we have mosquitos at home, too, and I guess that's what you get when you want to be close to the nature! Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back again! Our toddler got some vegetables from the garden and had lots of space to run!

If I could give this place seven stars, I would. I loved this place so much that I am almost hesitant to gush about Robert's place. First, I should say I have stayed at about a dozen Airbnb places and this was by far my favorite. It was the little touches that made a world of a difference: the fresh fruit that he stocked to greet us; the German chocolates he left for us on the coffee table; the olive oil stocked in the cupboards; the outdoor shower equipped with every bath product you could need/want; the snorkeling equipment in the garage. I could go on and on and actually, I will. Robert is the nicest person. Often times at Airbnbs, I feel like the host is just hosting guests so that I can fund their, say, Tesla purchase. Not with Robert. He exudes genuine warmth and even wished us farewell with a hug. In fact, my partner and I loved the place so much that we actually tried to alter our whole trip so that we could stay longer at his place. It was amazing. Pahoa will change you; Robert's place will change you. Stop scrolling through other options and just book this place.

Well, I certainly gushed reading your review. Mahalo for taking the time and care to share your experience. Having you and Claire here was awesome. You caught the magic of where we live. We eagerly look forward to your return next year, Who knows, maybe you might end up buying a piece of land here--which is incredibly inexpensive--I continue to insist the we have the highest quotient of mindful intelligent people here and you two would help us shine even more. Aloha nui. A hui hou.

I moved to the Puna District of Big Island in 2013 with my partner, Konrad Kumorkiewicz, from our home on Long Island, New York. Here we were so fortunate to buy an incredibly beautiful home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on an exquisitely landscaped acre.

I am a life-long educator who works with middle and high school students. I am involved helping students here at the Kua O Ka La Public Charter School in Pahoa. I am also very involved in doing men's work through the ManKind Project (MKP) and Boys to Men organization. I am currently the chair of the World Elder Gathering, an MKP event that will gather men and women, young and old at the Kalani Retreat Center in Oct. 2015.

My partner designs dance customs for adults and children for a dance catalogue company. He has a passion for renovating and was responsible for creating the new self-contained space for our Air BnB clients.

Together we work on gardening and landscaping.

We seek to create a beautiful, quiet, serene place so our guests feel like they are at home.

My life motto is to serve as a channel for divine love through my truth telling and compassion by which others and myself will experience our glory.
