About This Listing
A place for solitude, rest and relaxation, from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna and the east side of the Big Island. Our guests leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.
Welcome to Paradise.
Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here.
You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop, toaster, coffee maker, and all necessary kitchen utensils.
Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Yoga Oasis, Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture), Kalani Retreat (yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture), and Polestar, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement.
Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island.
The price includes Hawaiian Excise Tax of 13.41%. There are no cleaning fees.
Fruit and vegetable gardens, 2 acres of grounds.
Interaction with Guests
We are here to assist to help our guests have a fabulous time. If guests have any particular needs, they should contact us. Although we live on the property, guests have their own private space. How much we interact is solely at your discretion. If guests have any questions, they should not hesitate to knock on our door.
In our opinion, Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the richness of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the furthest eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirits, and desiring to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there are a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.
The only public transport is the Hele bus which comes through Leilani and from and to Pahoa and Hilo.
Other Things to Note
Check out Puna Happenings on the web for daily activities. It is updated weekly on Sunday.
It is our expectation that only mindful and thoughtful people will come here. We don't need to make rules for them. We believe our guests follow the Golden Rule--treat others as you would like to be treated.
We do not have a cleaning fee in order to keep rates low. Please leave the place as though you were staying at friends.
Robert greeted us when we arrived and showed us around - so welcoming! The accommodations were SPECTACULAR with very thoughtful additions - bottled water and other goodies in the fridge and a wonderful bowl of organic fruit. Beautiful neighborhood with lovely grounds and home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back! Ten stars!!!!
Robert waited for us when we arrived in the evening. We were three (2 adults and one 6 years old boy) and there was a lot of space for us. There are two sleeping rooms and all is very clean and spacious. There is a huge veranda outside where you can sit and relax and look into the lovely garden with a lot of fruit trees like bananas etc. There are a lot of birds to be watched! Interesting sites like the Vulcano National Park and Hilo are not far away. We can highly recommend this place if you stay on the Hilo side of Big Island.
Our stay was great! We would definitely stay here again. Amazing place, very peaceful but close to lots of sights and activities. Konrad was extremely nice and helpful. The fruit and organic garden was such a nice bonus. Would highly recommend to anyone I know traveling to the Pahoa area.
I stayed at Robert and Konrad's place along with my wife and daughter. The accommodation and grounds are beautiful. Both Robert and Konrad are friendly and helpful! I would highly recommend staying with them.
Konrad was there waiting for us when we arrived in the evening. The place was very lovely and convenient. It's very nice of them to also leave us some fruits they grown and some eggs, milk and bread in the fridge. It's a little far from the downtown area but there is a smaller organic grocery in about 10mins drive. The road is dark at night but totally fine with a gps. The kitchen is a little small.
It was very pleasant experience staying @ Konard & Robert's place.
The home was very clean , spacious and comfortable for 2 couples to stay. The garden was huge and beautiful. They have set up convenient seating arrangement outside the home with garden view which is a very fine way to sit , chat and relax. We enjoyed our stay and would return next time we visit hilo.
About the Host, Konrad & Robert
I moved to the Puna District of Big Island in 2013 with my partner, Konrad Kumorkiewicz, from our home on Long Island, New York. Here we were so fortunate to buy an incredibly beautiful home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on an exquisitely landscaped acre.
I am a life-long educator who works with middle and high school students. I am involved helping students here at the Kua O Ka La Public Charter School in Pahoa. I am also very involved in doing men's work through the ManKind Project (MKP) and Boys to Men organization. I am currently the chair of the World Elder Gathering, an MKP event that will gather men and women, young and old at the Kalani Retreat Center in Oct. 2015.
My partner designs dance customs for adults and children for a dance catalogue company. He has a passion for renovating and was responsible for creating the new self-contained space for our Air BnB clients.
Together we work on gardening and landscaping.
We seek to create a beautiful, quiet, serene place so our guests feel like they are at home.
My life motto is to serve as a channel for divine love through my truth telling and compassion by which others and myself will experience our glory.

The only black beach in lower Puna. Take precaution about swimming here. However, the energy and vibes here are awesome. On Sunday at noon there is a drumming circle that draws a throng of people.HI 96778
An incredible community get-together, every Wednesday night from 5pm to 10. There is great Hawaiian music and good, inexpensive food is sold. A very friendly, down home experience.Hawaii 137 HI 96778
One of the best restaurants in Hilo. Before dinner spend time walking around the park in front of the restaurant. This section of Hilo has an old world ambience.Kamehameha Avenue # 101 Hilo HI 96720-2960
