Breathe in Beauty, Peace and Light

House - Entire home/apt · Malama Street, Pāhoa, HI 96778, United States

A place for solitude, rest and relaxation from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna. Centrally located to all the captivating destinations in Puna. You will leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.

The Space

Welcome to Paradise.

Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. Hear the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. Watch the ever changing vista. Pick fresh tropical fruits and vegetables. Walk or run barefoot on the lawn. Feel the trade winds caress you on the lanai. You will find a deep sense of peace here.

You will be renting the bottom floor of our home, a self-contained apartment with two bedrooms, each with their own queen-size bed. There is also a full bathroom with walk-in shower. Outside, there is a private outdoor shower. In between the two bedrooms is a sitting area and kitchenette, that includes a sink, hot plate, full refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and all necessary kitchen utensils. A lanai (porch) wraps around the bottom floor, with outdoor furniture and a barbecue that has a side burner.

Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is 5 miles to the North, the Pacific is 5 miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Yoga Oasis-yoga, Hawaiian Sanctuary-for yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture, Kalani Retreat-for yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture, and Polestar-spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.

We are 45 min. from Hilo and about 1 hour from Volcano National Park. You could easily spend a week here and not see everything. We will provide personal attention help in planning your stay here. For example, the best places to go of tide pooling, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, etc. We love where we live and want to share our excitement.

Our place is distinctive because of the big sky and almost constant trade winds that keep away flies and mosquitoes. Sitting on the lanai or walking around the property, you are bathed in warm, sensual air. It's something that must be experienced to be understood. Make this place a home base for you exploration of lower Puna.

The price includes Hawaiian Excise Tax of 13.41%. There are no cleaning fees.

Guest Access

Fruit and vegetable gardens, 2 acres of grounds.

Interaction with Guests

We are here to assist to help our guests have a fabulous time. If guests have any particular needs, they should contact us. Though we live on the property, you have your own private space. How much we interact is solely at your discretion. If guests have any questions, they should not hesitate to knock on our door.

The Neighborhood

In our opinion Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the variety of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the most eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts all those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirit, and want to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there is a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.

Getting around

The only public transport is the Hele bus which comes through Leilani and from and to Pahoa and Hilo.

  • Our stay was perfect. The seperate apartment was everything they said it was. Clean, clean, clean with all the amenities. Bed was extremely comfortable. It was perfect for the two of us, but two couples could stay no problem. Great location for exploring the southeast side of the big island. Also great for visiting the volcano. You will love it here--quiet, secluded, and beautiful!
Konrad & Robert are also great hosts. Upon arrival we found fresh fruit, eggs, coffee, bread, and milk available for breakfast.
Better than any hotel available on the Hilo sbide of the island. Five stars.

    Response from Konrad & Robert:

Yes, you did have a perfect stay because you gave yourself time to explore and soak in the richness of this side of Big Island. Puna is different and special and it was great to see how much you appreciated what life here has to offer, even when the electricity went out for a few hours. You saw the magic here. Hope to see you again.

  • Sadly, we only had one night to spend at this warm, relaxing, peaceful retreat. Welcomed by a spotless, well appointed, comfortable space..we fully enjoyed our time spent here. Our 9yr old son loved running through the immense green space, exploring the gardens and lolling in the hammock. Robert and Conrad were welcoming, and respectful of our privacy. They have thought of every need, and so we could have asked for nothing more. We would, and will, recommend this space to all friends that are lucky enough to visit the Big Island!

It was great having your family here. Especially enjoyed having your son enjoy our place. We feel a great sense of gratitude when our guests make this place their home, even if it is only for one night. Please come again.

  • Konrad and Robert were excellent hosts. They provided everything we needed and helpful advice about what to see while there. The property was beautiful. The location is perfect for exploring the Puna coast... not something to be missed on a trip to the big island. We would definitely stay with them again should we find ourselves in the area again. Highly recommended!

So happy you chose our place for your honeymoon. Puna is all about love and magic. We look forward to your return.

  • We stayed in five different places on the big island, and Robert and Konrad's was by far our favorite! We wished we could have stayed more than three nights and had more down time to sit on the beautiful lanai or lounge in the hammock. They thoughtfully provided some food staples in the fridge, fresh fruit from their own trees, umbrellas, and a guide book, and made us feel very welcome.

I took them up on their offer of eating out of the garden, and added chard, kale, and basil to our breakfasts on the lanai. Amazing! The kitchenette is efficient and well-equipped with quality tools and appliances, but it's small. It worked well enough to make breakfasts for two, but more elaborate meals would be tight.

The place was clean and modern, thoughtfully well-decorated, and the foam mattress was quite comfortable. Loved that the bedroom got nice and dark at night. The sound of frogs and geckos is all over the island, including here. Didn't bother me, but you may want earplugs!

There is lots to do around Pahoa, and Robert even printed out directions (with photos!) to his favorite snorkeling and swimming spot, which was a great recommendation. Long distance runners will have miles of quiet flat roads to choose from. Overall, we felt totally relaxed, safe, and lucky at this lovely home away from home. Highly recommend it!

Thank you for your very thoughtful and appreciative review. You made some excellent suggestions. We enjoyed having guests who were so mindful of their environment. We hope to see you again.

  • We had a wonderful stay with Konrad and Robert. They were very warm, inviting, and welcoming. They offered advice and tips on things to do and see. We truly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were warm, very clean, and nicely decorated. It seemed like every inch had a personal touch. We felt very much at home and welcome. The surrounding area is beautiful, calm, peaceful, and surrounded by nature. We are very active and our days on the Big Island were packed with adventures and all day activities. Therefore, it was extra nice to be able to come home to a tranquil and relaxing environment after a full day of activities. It was so much better than a busy or noisy hotel. We would stay with them again and rate them 5 ++++++ stars. Thank you for everything! :)

Mahalo nui loa for your very sweet review! We only wished we could have interacted more. . .but as you said, you were busy taking advantage of what Puna and the Big Island had to offer. Glad to hear you had such a wonderful time. Aloha. Robert and Konrad

  • Robert and Konrad have a peaceful and lusciously green, brand new feeling, efficient space. The bed was comfortable and I could see stars from the sliding doors at night. The spacious covered deck looks into vegetable garden and lawn. Proximity to the beautiful "red road" and Puna's beaches and warm pools was a plus.

My only frustration is that I wished you had stayed longer than a day to see the wonder of Puna. Yet you certainly did make the most of your time. I'm sure that Pele will call you back very soon! Aloha.

  • Generous is the word we would use, if we had only one, to describe these accomodations near Pahoa. The appartment features absolutely everything you need to prepare simple meals and BBQs, comfy beds and plush towels, including ones for the beach! We really appreciated being able to use their washer/dryer, because you just have to be able to wash things on a long trip in a tropical climate. Eating on the lanai with the palm trees and beautiful garden to look at was a joy at every meal. Hosts Konrad and Robert are generous, fine and caring people, fun too! We got all the rest and the best of Puna we needed. It was a real pleasure staying here and we hope to do so again soon!

It was great having you and your husband here. We look forward to the time when you will be living here and we can visit each other. You are now the second guest who have stayed at our place who have decided to make Puna your home. We all have been blessed!

  • On such short notice literally, we were in awe and amazement when we arrived at Robert and Konrad's slice of heaven! As no cabs available day we arrived due to cruise ship in, Robert was so kind to pick us up and we settled into God's paradise. Pictures could never justify their wonderful just have to go there. The ambience, the lush plantation style property, their organic gardens, and such a wonderful area in the back for any lucky visitor. We had everything we needed, including umbrellas on the lanai in case we needed them, fully equipped kitchen items, comfy beds and the decor was amazing. Such a nice treat with fresh fruit waiting for us, a guidebook to the Island, Netflix, and super comfy wicker chairs and full patio set for us to enjoy our meal, have the coqui frogs lull you to sleep. Ambitious pair continually improving their gardens including labor intensive asparagus planting and fresh baked apple cake. We didn't want to leave, but we shared our fabulous news with new friends on the purchase of our own paradise not far away. Our door will always be open to our new Ohana. Aloha and Mahalo for sharing your slice of paradise.

I believe you and Pierre have started a tradition. The couple who came after you are also looking to eventually move here from Europe. We put them in touch with our real estate broker, who was very helpful in their process of getting established here. We are excited that you will soon be living close by and hope this is just the beginning of attracting others to this most magical part of the world. We both know that once one comes here and is open to the magic of this place, wonderful things begin to happen. Aloha. Robert

  • We had a wonderful visit at Robert and Konrad's place. So much beauty and tranquility! We wish we had planned better and could have stayed longer. Robert and Konrad were very helpful, considerate, and friendly. My husband was bothered by the coqui frogs at night a bit, but they didn't bother me at all.
I hope to come back someday soon!
    Thanks, Robert and Konrad!

We get such pleasure seeing how you and others enjoyed staying at our place. I do know that the noise of the coqui frogs can be challenging for some people. But after awhile, one can get use to them and appreciate them. So much better than the noise of cars and honking horns. Nature has many lessons to teach. Please come again.

  • I don´t know where to start. Such an amazing apartment! The lanai is a dream, so is the garden! The kitchen might be a little small but there is a BBQ outside so no worries.
Wonderful location too, very safe, quiet and lots of plants around.
Konrad and Robert are very nice guys, good communication. We received lots of useful tipps.
There is really nothing bad to say about this place! Come stay here, you will not regret it.
