A place for solitude, rest and relaxation, from which to enjoy the wonders of Puna and the east side of the Big Island. Our guests leave restored and in awe of the magic of this area.

The Space

Welcome to Paradise.
Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here.
You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop, toaster, coffee maker, and all necessary kitchen utensils.
Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Yoga Oasis, Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture), Kalani Retreat (yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture), and Polestar, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement.
Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island.
The price includes Hawaiian Excise Tax of 13.41%. There are no cleaning fees.

Guest Access

Fruit and vegetable gardens, 2 acres of grounds.

Interaction with Guests

We are here to assist to help our guests have a fabulous time. If guests have any particular needs, they should contact us. Although we live on the property, guests have their own private space. How much we interact is solely at your discretion. If guests have any questions, they should not hesitate to knock on our door.

The Neighborhood

In our opinion, Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the richness of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the furthest eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirits, and desiring to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there are a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.

Getting around

The only public transport is the Hele bus which comes through Leilani and from and to Pahoa and Hilo.

Other Things to Note

Check out Puna Happenings on the web for daily activities. It is updated weekly on Sunday.

  • Konrad and Robert's place was indeed beautiful and peaceful. The pictures don't really do it justice. Their garden is fantastic and provides a great view from the unit's windows and deck. The unit has two nice-sized bedrooms and is perfect for friends traveling together or for a larger party. The place is extremely clean and well appointed. The kitchenette even has a portable hotplate, so the lack of a stove wasn't a problem. I would highly recommend it!

  • Ottima esperienza!

  • My brothers and I spent a couple of days packed with activities around Hilo and hiking Kilauea. We came back each night exhausted and glad to be able to clean up and rejuvenate at such a peaceful, well stocked, and clean spacious space. The place is surrounded with serenity - we were able to freshen up each morning in view of beautiful landscapes while enjoying light drizzles and chirping crickets.

Excellent experience - we would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

  • Exactly the place my Mom and I were looking to stay in Hawaii! Easy drive to all the best locations on that side of the island. Quite, peaceful, and really enjoyed the lanai for breakfast and dinner. You'll also get to know the geckos that like to sun themselves on the deck.

Robert and Konrad's place really lives up to the name - it was beautiful, peaceful and so close to nature! We loved the place. The pictures don't do it justice. The place itself is very comfortably furnished with all modern fittings - has a nice Japanese vibe. We loved the lanai and the garden. The hosts are very friendly, generous and helpful, but totally non-intrusive. They had stocked up the pantry and refrigerator with so much stuff! Tons of bath and beach towels, snorkels, an umbrella and so many more thoughtful additions. Great location to go around the eastern (Volcanoes NP, Hilo, Pahoa, tidepools), southern (black sand beaches, South Point) and northern (Waipio valley, Akaka and other falls) parts of the Big Island. Even to Manua Kea. All within a half hour to one hour drive. A bit of a long drive to the western Kona side though. We'd definitely stay there again. A note - there was no cell phone signal on our phone. But the internet connection served us very well - and kept the kids well entertained on the TV when needed.

    Response from Konrad & Robert:

Sorry to hear that you did not have cell service. This is the first time I have heard this from a guest. We have Sprint service, and others who have ATT or Verizon seem to be able to connect. Thanks again for the rice & vegetables--that was a treat. It was great to have your family here! We look forward to your return. Aloha

I am 67, recently moved to the Puna District of Big Island. My partner, Konrad Kumorkiewicz, and I recently bought an incredible home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on an equisitely landscape acre. I am a life-long educator who works with middle and high school students. I anticipate getting involved helping students here in Pahoa. I am also very involved in doing men's work through the ManKind Project and Boys to Men organization. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Puna Community Medical Center and assisting Hawaiian Sanctuary in their efforts to build a stronger presence on the Web. My partner designs dance customs for adults and children for a dance catalogue company. He has a passion for renovating and was responsible for creating the new self-contained space for our Air BnB clients. Together we work on gardening and landscaping. We seek to create a beautiful, quiet, serene place so our guests feel like they are at home. My life motto is to serve as a channel for divine love through my truth telling and compassion by which others and myself will experience our glory.
