The space

Welcome to Paradise.
Our home sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific in the distance. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here.
You will be renting a self-contained apartment located on the bottom floor of our home. The wrap-around lanai (porch) overlooks a lush and gorgeous property with ever-present sunshine and cool breezes. There is comfortable porch furniture, a large new barbeque and a wide hammock in the yard. The apartment has two bedrooms, each with its own queen-size bed. There is a full bathroom with walk-in shower, as well as a private, outdoor shower. Between the two bedrooms are a sitting area and kitchenette. The kitchenette includes a sink, full refrigerator, microwave, electric cooktop with two burners, toaster-oven, Keurig coffee maker, French Press, Magic Bullet (shake maker) and all necessary kitchen utensils and condiments (e.g., coffee, tea, salt, pepper, olive oil, basic spices).
Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture), Kalani Retreat (yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture), and Polestar, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
Our property is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book that we have created for our guests. We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement.
Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island.

The neighborhood

In our opinion, Puna is the most fascinating and lush area of Big Island. From Kalapana to Kopoho, from the Red Road to Pahoa--you will be experiencing the richness of living in a tropical rainforest. This is the furthest eastern part of the Hawaiian Islands and has a special place in Hawaiian lore. It attracts those who are adventurous, seeking to expand their spirits, and desiring to live in congruence with nature. It is our belief that there are a very high percentage of mindful people who live here.

Getting around

The only public transport is the Hele bus which comes through Leilani and from and to Pahoa and Hilo.

Other things to note

Check out Puna Happenings on the web for daily activities. It is updated weekly on Sunday.

The house is a tropical haven inside and out. His beautiful gardens and backyard are like a beautiful jungle and bring about peace and calm. He leaves a helpful binder with many beautiful locations and we took all the advice. We are really happy we did because it was all great! We recommend staying here as it really was a highlight of our trip to the Big Island. Thanks again! Marija

The grounds are stunning and beautifully maintained. At night, the chirping coqui frogs will lull you to sleep - after you check out the most amazing starry sky I have ever seen! Konrad and Robert are helpful but not intrusive. The kitchen was stocked with fresh eggs, fruit, water and bread and the bathroom was amply supplied with generous amounts of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. Breakfast on the beautiful deck each morning was a highlight.

Robert and Conrad's apartment is perfect for one or two couples. Thoughtful touches such as food essentials, snorkel/mask/flippers, a customized guide to local attractions, well equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, fresh fruit, etc. The setting is so peaceful. Instead of going out for dinner, we ended up cooking every night and eating on the deck that looks out on the lovely garden. In the Pahoa area, this is a fantastic place to be based.

Amazing! First of all, our hosts were extremely hospitable. The apartment was very clean, neat and professional. The property was immaculate, and the stocked kitchen was the cherry on the top. There was a lot to do in the area including scenic drives, Wednesday night farmers market with amazing food, beaches, warm spring pool and of course...volcanos! We would love to be back one day. Ps- there are cute toads on their property. It's super fun to take young kids to look for them at night.

Great location between Hilo, Volcano and the eastern coast. Love the laid back nature of Pahoa. Konrad and Robert were ideal hosts. Konrad and Robert greeted us when we arrived. The unit was spacious. Ample towels and stocked fridge that allowed us to easily make breakfast in the morning. Konrad and Robert shared bananas, avocado and papaya from their garden. Wonderful to have fresh fruit. We would stay with Konrad and Robert again the next time we are back in Pahoa.

My parents and my sister are visiting me in San Diego for one month; they are from France. I offered my parents a trip to Kona to celebrate their 52nd yrs anniversary. Konrad and Robert are very diligent with communicating to me about their rental property and on how to find it. The house is amazingly clean and orderly. K&R welcome us with a basket of fresh fruits, delicious Milano cookies, and Ferrero chocolate. The fridge was very clean and contained a loaf of French bread, 18 count of free cage eggs, bottles of water, new pint of organic milk, and Kerry Gold butter (my favorite butter); ice cubes were already ready in the freezer. The bathroom had everything we needed; it was like being in my own bathroom. We were very comfortable stay at K& R's place because they bought brand new soap, sponge, shampoo, conditioner, to name a few, for us to use. We slept so well every night because all bedrooms have freshly clean sheets, pillow cases, and blankets. There are too many excellent comments I wish to made, but I might end up writing a book. It is really A MAGICAL PLACE!!!!!! Nature surrounding the property is better than what you see in the pictures. My dad said to Robert as we were saying good bye:" your place is impeccable, I will remember it for the remaining part of my life.

Konrad and Robert's space is the lower level of their home. The space and property was gorgeous, tranquil, and relaxing. There is a private patio with lounge furniture and dining table. The indoor space was immaculate and included all the basics like kitchen ware, coffee maker, hot plate, refrigerator, etc. They are both very friendly and kind and provided a detailed list of recommendations for sights and experiences around the Big Island. We loved every moment. Thanks!

I moved to the Puna District of Big Island in 2013 with my partner, Konrad Kumorkiewicz, from our home on Long Island, New York. Here we were so fortunate to buy an incredibly beautiful home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on an exquisitely landscaped acre.

I am a life-long educator who works with middle and high school students. I am involved helping students here at the Kua O Ka La Public Charter School in Pahoa. I am also very involved in doing men's work through the ManKind Project (MKP) and Boys to Men organization. I am currently the chair of the World Elder Gathering, an MKP event that will gather men and women, young and old at the Kalani Retreat Center in Oct. 2015.

My partner designs dance customs for adults and children for a dance catalogue company. He has a passion for renovating and was responsible for creating the new self-contained space for our Air BnB clients.

Together we work on gardening and landscaping.

We seek to create a beautiful, quiet, serene place so our guests feel like they are at home.

My life motto is to serve as a channel for divine love through my truth telling and compassion by which others and myself will experience our glory.
