A modern retreat in the trees just outside of West Asheville's "locals downtown". Walkable/bike-able to Haywood Rd and excellent neighborhood restaurants, art and yoga studios, farmers market and music venues. 5 minute drive to the city of Asheville.
The house is open and warm, flooded in light and views. It's modern style is spacious and airy. Warm and toasty with radiant floor heat and a free standing wood stove.
All our personal things have been removed but you will find everything you need in terms of kitchen and bath supplies and of course, freshly made beds ready for your arrival.
The house was designed to take advantage of the trees and breeze in the summer months. We value home-making that lives with nature and doesn't tax our planets limited resources. There is no AC but there is good air flow and fans. This works well in the mountains.
If you are looking for an inspiring space that is peaceful and part of a vibrant creative community you will enjoy staying here.
This is a three story dwelling with the main house (this listing, sleeps 4 comfortably, 6 is possible but preferable if 2 are children) occupying two levels. We have a different listing for the separate studio apartment (sleeps 2) on the lower level and we can accommodate up to 8 people. You will need to reserve both listings for adult groups of 8. The cost for both listings with 8 guests is $384/night weekdays and $494/night weekends.
Interaction with Guests
We will be there to greet you when you arrive and answer any questions you may have but after that, you'll have the place to yourself unless you call for more assistance.
West Asheville is home. Its quiet and wooded, a real neighborhood scene with great restaurants and music venues. Many artists live on this side of the river as this is where the river arts district (RAD) is. West Asheville has it's own downtown area on Haywood Rd., a few blocks away. Downtown Asheville is five minutes away by car and is much more touristy.
You can walk to Haywood Rd, our "main st." Or ride the bikes provided but you'll want a car if you stay here, I think. Its a five minute drive anywhere, farmers market, Biltmore house, Downtown, also easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smokies National Park.
We are not charging an extra cleaning fee for groups of four people or less. We ask that you leave it in the same condition you found it. For larger groups or people with pets, there is a $150 cleaning fee due on arrival. Smaller groups may also choose to pay for cleaning instead of taking care of it before leaving. Just let Lisa know and she will make arrangements.
The main thing we'd like for you be considerate of is the walls, no tape or tacks on the walls. Also, please always wipe up spills off the floors when they occur. Standing water will ruin the finish.
This is a smoke free property. Please do not use pipes or tobacco and also, no burning things, like candles in the house. This keeps us all safe in the trees! If you need anything or have a request, please let us know. We truly want your stay to be a happy one and would appreciate the chance to have you leave us positive reviews.
Jakub and Maria were welcoming and easy to communicate with. The house is pretty, as it appears in the photographs. It's also convenient to downtown. We do agree with some of the other reviews, however, that the mattress needs replacing (very thin and soft) and that the airflow in the bedroom needs to be addressed. Still, a very nice stay in a nice environment.
Fantastic stay at the tree house! We went here for a girls getaway weekend and absolutely loved this place. It was beautiful. They had everything we needed- coffee (!). Sheets, towels, shampoo etc. The house was nothing like we had stayed in before. Huge gorgeous windows felt like you were staying outside. A beautiful outdoor sitting area upstairs where we could have coffee & drinks. The shower was amazing. A Walk-in that I didn't want to leave! We were worried it would be hot but wasn't at all. All the trees surrounding the property kept it nice & cool. Location was great. A quick trip to DT or the lovely Sunny Point Cafe for breakfast. Would stay again in a heartbeat! Thanks so much Maria & Jakub
We really loved this house. It was beautiful and modern while still feeling connected to nature. The windows are stunning, and it was especially fun to watch a thunderstorm roll through.
The owner, Maria, greeted us warmly when we arrived and gave us a brief tour of the house, spending time to make sure we knew how to operate the stove and connect to the wifi networks. She also apologized for the mismatched tiles in the shower (which didn't bother us at all), and she said they are planning to retile the shower very soon. The shower is pretty amazing, and I'm sure it will be even better after being retiled.
The thing I was most worried about was no AC, but luckily the weather was great (although sometimes rainy) while we were there. Highs were in the low 80s, and with the windows and doors open most of the time, the temperature inside the house felt fine. It does get humid, though, so be prepared for wet towels and clothes to stay damp. I do wish there had been a few more towel hooks or towel stands.
There is a washer and dryer, but you have to go outside to get to them, and they are shared with the downstairs apartment. We ended up not needing them, so this wasn't an issue for us. But if you're like me and like to do laundry late at night in your pajamas, that might not work so well here.
The only negative, in our opinion, is that the mattress was kind of thin and less supportive than we prefer. This may just be a matter of preference, so others might like it just fine. And the sofas were pretty comfortable for napping.
Overall, we really loved our stay at Maria and Jakub's house, and we would definitely stay here again. Next time I hope to stay a bit longer so we can spend more time relaxing and enjoying the beautiful house instead of leaving each day for hiking and rafting and other activities.
The host was spectacular, she was there right when we got there. Immediately she gave us they keys, explained everything and let us on our way. the neighborhood was beyond cool, along with the house. The ambiance you get between the neighborhood and the actual house is beyond relaxing. I went with my boyfriend and we didn't want to leave. So cozy, so modern, very clean!!! The house made our experience.
My favorite part was the outside patio right outside the master bedroom!
- if you get bit by Mosquitos a lot don't forget bug spray!! But thats because you're in the woods
- it is a little hot and stuffy in the summer but the host provides numerous fans that cools it down
- zip line in the backyard!!!!!!
Overall, I would go back to the house in a second and use the house again in a second.
We had a great time in Ashville! Jakub and Maria were great hosts, very helpful and hospitable.
The house was spacious, beautiful, and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. We enjoyed the large windows, sunlight, and surrounding trees.
As for Ashville, we loved White Duck Taco, Doc Chey's noodle house and visiting Linville Falls.
Jakub & Maria's house is truly magical. A cool, calm retreat among the trees. We adored exploring Asheville and having this perfect haven to return to. It's an extraordinary architectural gem with views out into the woods so that everything is green and you feel part of the wonderful woods around you. Jakub & Maria are calm and relaxed hosts and we and our kids felt very welcome.
Overall a beautiful and interesting place to stay.
Nice location, 15 minute walk to downtown West Asheville, WNC farmers' market is a short drive down the road, as is a grocery store, so cooking is easily accomplished. Stovetop burners are hard to light, though. Downtown Asheville is a 5 minute drive a few exits down the highway. Blue Ridge Parkway is close, great hiking opportunities 30+ minutes away.
Three complaints but nothing too major. Buggy!!! Tons of spiders, especially daddy long legs, but given the fact you're surrounded by woods, understandable. Just be prepared. Smelled ever so slightly musty... Probably due again to being in a thickly wooded area. Wi-Fi is very spotty. Couldn't get upstairs.
Loved the zip line out back!
Overall, very nice, would stay again!

About the Host, Jakub & Maria
Jakub and I have been together since 1999. We are both architects and we are both from Eastern Europe. We have two children, a boy and a girl. As a family we like hiking, mounting biking, travelling, creating art, reading and spending time with friends. We are planning a year of travel around the world November 2013- November 2014 and we are renting our house while away. We are very excited to share our home with others. We feel it is a special place and we hope you will enjoy it. What we most love about our home is its openness, the view of the trees, the quiet and the light.
