Important details are covered in the listing. Please click on all "see more" links.
A modern retreat in the trees just outside of West Asheville's "locals downtown". Walkable/bike-able to Haywood Rd and excellent neighborhood restaurants, art and yoga studios, farmers market and music venues. 5 minute drive to the city of Asheville.
The house is open and warm, flooded in light and views. It's modern style is spacious and airy. Warm and toasty with radiant floor heat and a free standing wood stove. On a sunny day, you can dine outside on the upper floor deck in the oak trees.
My husband and I are architects and have designed this house as our home. We are traveling this year on a world tour with our two children so our house is available for your vacation. Our managers, Lisa and Michele will make sure you feel welcome and have everything you need.
All our personal things have been removed but you will find everything you need in terms of kitchen and bath supplies and of course, freshly made beds ready for your arrival.
The house was designed to take advantage of the trees and breeze in the summer months. We value home-making that lives with nature and doesn't tax our planets limited resources. There is no AC but there is good air flow and fans. This works well in the mountains.
If you are looking for an inspiring space that is peaceful and part of a vibrant creative community you will enjoy staying here.
This is a three story dwelling with the main house (this listing, sleeps 6) occupying two levels. We have a different listing for the separate studio apartment (sleeps 2) on the lower level and we can accommodate up to 8 people. You will need to reserve both listings for adult groups of 8. (Families with kids have the option of sleeping pads on the floor of the main house) The cost for both listings with 8 guests is $384/night weekdays and $494/night weekends.
Interaction with Guests
Lisa or Michele will be there to greet you when you arrive and answer any questions you may have but after that, you'll have the place to yourself unless you call for more assistance.
West Asheville is home. Its quiet and wooded, a real neighborhood scene with great restaurants and music venues. Many artists live on this side of the river as this is where the river arts district (RAD) is. West Asheville has it's own downtown area on Haywood Rd., a few blocks away. Downtown Asheville is five minutes away by car and is much more touristy.
You can walk to Haywood Rd, our "main st." Or ride the bikes provided but you'll want a car if you stay here, I think. Its a five minute drive anywhere, farmers market, Biltmore house, Downtown, also easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smokies National Park.
We are not charging an extra cleaning fee for groups of four People or less. We ask that you leave it in the same condition you found it. For larger groups or people with pets, there is a $150 cleaning fee due on arrival. Smaller groups may also choose to pay for cleaning instead of taking care of it before leaving. Just let Lisa know and she will make arrangements.
The main thing we'd like for you be considerate of is the walls, no tape or tacks on the walls. Also, please always wipe up spills off the floors when they occur. Standing water will ruin the finish.
This is a smoke free property. Please do not use pipes or tobacco and also, no burning things, like candles in the house. This keeps us all safe in the trees! If you need anything or have a request, please let us know. We truly want your stay to be a happy one and would appreciate the chance to have you leave us positive reviews.
I had a wonderful stay in the Tree House! It's a beautiful home in a great location. Easy uber ride into downtown Asheville and only a 10 minute drive to the Biltmore. We were two couples and there was more than enough space; however, the house would probably be too small to comfortably fit three couples. I would definitely stay here again.
What a great house! This was a perfect place for our group of 8. There were 4 beds (2 twins) that comfortably slept 6 and we were also left 2 mattresses for the remaining 2 guests. The kitchen was well stocked with every day essentials that made cooking at the house easy and the extra towels/linens were nice, too. Great natural light, beautiful neighborhood, fun zipline!
First off, this house is very funky. Really a cool place to stay if you're a family or couples looking for a nice getaway. It's in a great location (if you have a car) about 8 minutes from downtown Asheville. 15 minutes from the airport which makes for a very convenient trip.
Lisa and Michele, who manage the property for Jakub and Maria, were incredibly helpful. They got in contact with us before we arrived and made the key hand-off easy. They also leave some Asheville reading material at the house if you're still brainstorming things to do.
Overall, great time and would stay there again in a heartbeat.
This house was perfect for our family of five! Lisa met us when we arrived and showed us everything we needed to know about the house. Our 5 year old twin boys shared the downstairs bedroom and our 2 year old stayed on a mat in the master upstairs with us. The space is gorgeous, yet very comfortable and inviting. Our boys LOVED the surprise zipline and playing in the wooded area around the house. Our friends came in the middle of our week and stayed in the downstairs studio - their baby monitor worked upstairs so we could all hang out in the living room when our kids went to bed. West Asheville is a great neighborhood and the house is in a great location - close to the W.A. "downtown" and the highway connecting you quickly to downtown and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
This house is every bit as delightful as its listing suggests and our family loved every minute of our week there. Listening to rain on the roof at night was a special treat. Our kids loved the space so much they were happy to just hang out inside. The zip line was a great surprise, too. And Michelle is a wonderful host; we followed several of her suggestions for dining options and day trips and they were all spot on. Would love to come back.
Modern and minimalist - loved the space.
Really nice private feel even with other homes nearby. Did not see other neighbors.
Great location - so easy to get to W. Asheville and Downtown.
Could have used additional towel hooks in the bathrooms as we were a group of 6.
We had a great trip to Asheville and our stay at Modern Tree House was lovely. We were greeted by Michelle and our accommodations were as described (we were aware from reviews that one of the queen beds was in a loft, not in a private room). The house has great natural light and is in a very convenient location in West Asheville.

About the Host, Jakub & Maria
Jakub and I have been together since 1999. We are both architects and we are both from Eastern Europe. We have two children, a boy and a girl. As a family we like hiking, mounting biking, travelling, creating art, reading and spending time with friends. We are planning a year of travel around the world November 2013- November 2014 and we are renting our house while away. We are very excited to share our home with others. We feel it is a special place and we hope you will enjoy it. What we most love about our home is its openness, the view of the trees, the quiet and the light.
