The Space

Stay at the former Mansion of the Mayor of Brooklyn. This unique brownstone has gorgeous original details, high ceilings, hardwood floors, exposed brick, parquet floors, etc. As a mansion, this house is double the width of the normal brownstone buildings you will find in Brooklyn.

This listing is a light-filled, quiet, large private SUITE in a 2-room unit on the top floor (3rd floor). You can also rent the whole floor if you want both suites - perfect for families. (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1806378). The other suite is also separately listed here: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1762978

Each of the two suites includes its own private bathroom and bedroom behind a locked door. Share the living room and kitchen with another guest (or not, if it's not booked). We live downstairs with two kids and are always around if you need anything. We can lend your kids our toys, books, etc. We provide hotel quality amenities: towels, shampoo and conditioner, soap, hair dryer, umbrellas, guide books, maps, etc. Weekly professional cleaning service is provided at no charge.

We're located in a great section of the neighborhood of Fort Greene! You can check out the AirBnB guide to the neighborhood or (website hidden) it. Watch out for other listings on the fringe of the neighborhood, or too close to the Barclay Center. Ft. Greene is an exciting neighborhood with plenty to do, but it's also quiet and feels like a real neighborhood. Close by is Fort Greene park, the famous Brooklyn Flea market, a weekend farmer's market, the second largest subway hub in New York City, the Barclay Center, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), and of course restaurants, cafes and bars. Just 15 minutes from Manhattan! Also, CitiBike bike sharing has bikes for rent every few blocks in a large part of Brooklyn and Manhattan. You are welcome to borrow our CitiBike card if we are not using it on a particular day.

We have WiFi or wired internet. The living room has a flat screen TV with Netflix, Hulu Plus (for viewing TV shows), and AppleTV. You can also watch a selection of hundreds of movies for both kids and grown-ups stored on our media server, most with subtitles in several languages. These movies can be seen on the TV or streamed to your iOS or Android device.

Our calendar is always up-to-date, so feel free to book any dates that show available.

We look forward to hosting you!

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood, Fort Greene, is very close to Manhattan (we are just two blocks from a subway station), but feels much more comfortable. It's quiet and spacious, with tree-lined blocks filled with historic "brownstone" houses from the 19th century.

There is a beautiful park designed by the same people who designed Central Park, a local farmers market, a famous flea market, and plenty of cafes, restaurants, and fancy food stores. You can search online, as there have been many articles written about our neighborhood. Also, AirBnB has neighborhood guides you can look at.

Getting around

As for transportation, you can get to Manhattan very easily via subway. We are two blocks from the "C" train, and 7 or 8 blocks from the 2nd largest subway hub (after Grand Central) in the city, where many lines run. Depending on where you are going, and which line you need to take, it will take you 15-25 minutes to get anywhere south of 14th street, including the Financial District, SoHo, Tribeca, the Lower East Side, the Village, etc. To get to midtown is another 10 minutes.

After 10pm or so, I usually take a taxi, not so much because of safety concerns, but rather because the trains run infrequently and irregularly late at night. From below 14th st, it will cost about $15, more from midtown.

  • The suite was very nice and spacious. There were two bedrooms, each with a private bath and the kitchen and living room were common space. The bathroom in our bedroom needs a shelf to put toiletries on. The street noise traveled up to the room on the third floor. The other bedroom may have been quieter, but we didn't have a chance to see it because it was occupied. We did like the location very much. Leo and Claudia were responsive to our needs and requests. I would recommend Mayor's Mansion to others.

  • I had an incredible stay at Claudia and Leo's apartment! The apartment itself is beautiful : spacious, clean and full of gorgeous sunlight. The shower is magnificent and the bed is a dream. The apartment's location couldn't be more perfect. It's only a couple blocks from two different subway lines and was extremely convenient for my morning and evening commutes! The neighborhood is absolutely lovely. There's a grocery store, a coffee shop and yummy restaurants just around the corner. Claudia and Leo were incredibly kind, helpful and a breeze to communicate with! My stay at Claudia and Leo's apartment was the ideal AirBnb and NYC experience. I would love to stay with them again!

  • Es war eine wunderschöne Zeit bei euch. Eure Wohnung im perfekten Quartier, war eine schöne und ruhige Oase. Nochmals Danke vielmals für eure Gadtfreundschaft. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

  • This was our first Airbnb experience and it was absolutely fantastic. Claudia and Leo's apartment is gorgeous, spacious and spotlessly clean. It really is completely lovely - they've thought of everything, even down to the extra nice toiletries in the bathrooms!

Fort Greene is great to stroll around and there are lots of amazing restaurants nearby which we loved. It was easy to get into Manhattan and to explore other parts of Brooklyn, we didn't want to leave!

While Claudia and Leo were actually away on holiday themselves for most of our stay, they were great over email and arranged everything so it all ran smoothly, and even called us a taxi on our last day.

We couldn't have hoped for a more lovely stay and would highly recommend Mayor's Mansion to anyone.

  • We were in Brooklyn for a wedding and stayed at the Mayor's Mansion for two nights. Because we were busy with friends and family in other areas of Brooklyn and Manhattan, we spent little time in the house. However, it was clean, both elegant and cozy, spacious, and full of character. The pine scented diffuser in the living area and nice bathroom toiletries were unexpected additions. It was frigid outside but the home was well heated. Claudia and Leo were not able to be around during the days we were there but were available by telephone and email and were consistently accommodating and willing to answer all our questions before and during our stay.

  • This was our first ever Airbnb booking – and it was simply great! We absolutely love this apartment and cannot recommend it highly enough!

The Mayor’s Mansion is warm and spacious and charming and comfy. The beds, the bedding, the towels – everything was as fresh and as comfortable as you can imagine. Every evening felt like coming home. Better than any five star hotel. It’s situated in a beautiful and amazingly quiet neighborhood in Brooklyn with restaurants and bars and everything you need literally just around the corner. Claudia and Leo were wonderful hosts, responsive, helpful, absolutely lovely people! They welcomed us on our arrival late at night and allowed us to leave our luggage in the house before leaving.

Although a pity that we never actually used the beautiful and spacious kitchen, we loved having breakfast in the Hungry Ghost just a couple of blocks away (781 Fulton Street) where we got fantastic coffee, great croissants and a breathtaking yoghurt parfait with fresh strawberries and blueberries – highly recommended! On our first day we walked all the way to Manhattan, down Fulton Street, over Brooklyn Bridge, and all the way up to Meatpacking. So it’s fair to say that everything is in walking distance … even if the subway station is very conveniently just a block away, too.

This was a perfect weekend. We could not have asked for more and would love to return. Thank you ever so much, Claudia, Leo and lovely Brooklyn!

  • For us, this was the best airbnb experience we've had so far. Claudia & Leo are kind, generous and have created a perfect home away from home.

They're doing an incredible job restoring this historic building to a masterpiece, but they've already nailed it in the place you're looking at. Claudia's aesthetic is impeccable. The third floor is spacious, plush and the amenities are generous. The bed was the most comfortable we've experienced while traveling and the towels were ridiculously soft. The shared kitchen, living room and laundry areas give you everything you'll need to feel at home. But your locked private room and perfectly clean bathroom provide a sense of privacy and quiet. There are a ton of books on the shelves and even a record player with a good selection of LPs to choose from.

Make sure to read the "house manual" once you arrive. It is extremely informative about the neighborhood, restaurants, etc. However, Claudia and Leo are really great Brooklynites and can tell you everything you need to know about what's where and how to get there. The C train is right close by so you can hop into Manhattan very easily. There's also a great natural foods market just a couple blocks away. They also have a great sense of humor and two really cute kids. The place is very peaceful and quiet, and if you need Leo & Claudia for anything, they're right there.

    We will be back!

  • What a find! We booked this en suite room for a wintry weekend in New York. We were charmed by the entire space and attention to detail...the fresh decor, the comfortable bed (and bedding), the towels, the key chain, and well-equipped kitchen. Did I mention the bed? After a long (and cold) day exploring the city, we were eager to get back to our relaxing home away from home.

Claudia and Leo were responsive and kind. I spent some of our short stay in New York imagining a return to Fort Greene for another stay at the Mayor's Mansion. Highly recommended!!!

  • Claudia & Leo were excellent hosts and I highly recommend staying at their apartment. I was properly greeted and shown around. Everything was clean and very tastefully done. Apartment is more spacious than I thought. Location is very convenient to multiple trains and Barclays Center. I'm definitely coming back!

  • I can not rate this beautiful apartment highly enough. I wish that I could give Claudia, Leo and the apartment 10 stars. My boyfriend and I spent a couple of nights in the apartment, so that we could get to know this area of Brooklyn a little better. It is such a great location, with fantastic coffee shops ( Hungry Ghost less than a minute walk away- serving Stumptown coffee, we are Australians so a good coffee is a very important part of our morning ritual), great restaurants and the subway all in very close proximity.

The apartment is beautiful, the hosts have an amazing eye for detail and everything that you can think of is in the apartment to ensure a relaxing and most comfortable stay. The linens and towels are all white and of a hotel grade quality, and the bathroom also has beautiful products. The bed was so comfortable and it was easy to get caught day dreaming out of the huge windows which provide great light and make the apartment feel even bigger than it is.

Our only regret was the fact that we couldn't stay longer. We also left, wishing that the apartment was ours and that we could move in. A first class Air BNB experience.
