Fort Morgan, Alabama is a secret tropical paradise and we often wonder if we should share our secret or not. Experience what it's like to have expansive white sands beach and beautiful, warm, turquoise water all to yourself (except for the dolphins). Even the drive down the winding peninsula road is something from a movie highlighting the charms of the south. This quiet, single family home is formally 3BR/2BA but we have designed the 3rd bedroom to be a playroom/den with a pull out queen size sleeper sofa, flat screen tv, dvd and Playstation2. Don't forget to bring your rainy day games, just in case!
Whatever your life style is, from nature enthusiast to history buff, from shopper to golfer or sailor, you will have endless choices of activities or leisure when you stay at the McKobeach Shak!
Plan your stay now before the secret gets out and the beach gets crowded! Oh, and maybe, DON'T spread the word?
This home is perfect for any visiting family. There are plenty of things for families with children to do, but very few bars around. If you are looking for a place for night life, this may not be your best bet, but further east in Gulf Shores, Alabama you can find a better fit.

Our host Mary was the best through the whole process. She was easy to contact and always got back to us within 24 hours if there was a problem.
Thank you , Mary for sharing your beach bungalow with us! The house was perfect and just what we needed for our son's first trip to the beach!
The house was inviting and had everything we needed for our stay.
Mary was fantastic to work with and her space is adorable. We really enjoyed being out of the "tourist" area. It's a quick 10 minute walk to Beach Blvd and the Gulf. Well stocked with all you could need, including beach items. We enjoyed the beach front area but also having a pool at our disposal since the jelly fish were out in full force the week we visited. We loved seeing dolphins just off the shore and the starfish washed ashore. While it is a 20 minute or so ride back into the more populated tourist area, there's a great little market and dive bar just down the road -Great food and live music.
I would caution that the no see ums are no joke. I'd recommend bringing a long some bug spray. And we really like full fluffy pillows, so if you do too, you may want to bring a couple along.
We'll definitely be back to this little piece of paradise soon!
We had an absolutely wonderful time at Mary's house! It was nicer than the pictures, very clean and comfortable, and exceptionally quiet. The pool and hot tub is very nice too. My wife and kids are already planning our next trip there.
The only area that surprised us a little bit was how far away the house is from the city (Gulf Shores). It's about a 20 minute drive to anything that resembles a major town. That wasn't a problem for us because we were looking for a quiet place to stay but eating out was something we had to plan for and schedule (because of the distance).
If you stay here, you should probably visit the local beignet shop Mary recommends in her binder of local things to do, and track down a local fish market for some delicious eats you can cook (or grill) at home.
Wonderful, wonderful, and wonderful! Great place near the beach and extremely quiet. I can't wait to go back next summer.
We loved the beach house!!!! it was adorable and cozy. The drive to the beach was a bit long..but if it were it not raining..the drive would not have been a big deal.We want to come back next year.
Mary's house is very lovely and spacious. We had so much fun cooking in the kitchen and playing in the pool and hot tub. There are also tennis courts. I would definitely warn people about the "no see 'ums" because they ate us alive, and I had never encountered these bugs before. If you go in spring, I recommend taking eco bug spray with natural herbs to keep them away and using it liberally. I heard they are only bad certain times of the year.
Otherwise the house is close to the beach, the beach is lovely, and the area is very non-touristy and pristine. We loved Mary's beautiful house and had a ball. You also can't beat the value for staying in such a desirable resort area. If you are coming from the West, taking the ferry is really fun, and you are then just a few miles from the house.

Originally from Alabama, I moved with my family to Winnipeg, Manitoba and have braved the cold for almost 10 years now. Although I have learned to love the snow, ice skating, snow mobiling, snow tubing, skiing and best of all, coming in to a warm, cozy home after a day in the snow, I still have a soft spot for Sweet Home Alabama. I feel very lucky to have the best of both worlds and I would like to share my childhood tropical paradise in Fort Morgan, Al (Gulf of Mexico). I hope you will like it as much as I do!
