This studio combines bathroom, living room, bedroom, and kitchenette into one single room. Call it a duplex or mezzanine, situated on the third floor under the roof of the house. It is a sunny place, ideal to stay a couple of days and discover the ci
View taken halfway up the stairs to the studio. Beneath, a door separates the studio from the rest of the house.
You will live in a typical middle class house of Gent, build in the 1930's. The studio where you will live in has been renovated during the last three year (yes a long project...). But before there was also nothing, and now it is definitely the best place of the house and among the better places of AirBnB Gent. You might have the same feeling that although it's such a big space, it feels big because everything is compact and sits on the right place. It has an ideal climate, doesn't need many extra heat because of good isolation and the warmth of the sun.
Guests have there own studio on top of the house, so they can easily survive there for a few days :-). But in fact, they can access to all the rest of the house but it's quite normal you don't go snuffing in other person's sleeping room. Downstairs, there is a 'souterrain' where you can park your bike or other luggage you don't need in the studio. On level zero (+0,5), there is the living room and kitchen for us, other house habitants. Guests can come here also to eat and sit next to the wood fire in winter, if they want. But, having a studio, they don't have to come there if they don't want.
Interaction with Guests
If there's time and interest to meet, to eat and drink something together, I am there! It all depends of my own working scheme off course. But we live at three people in house, so many times there are cooking activities going on in the kitchen. We are easygoing and like to exchange with other people.
My house is next to the 'Kortrijkse-steenweg'. This is an important and very known street and axis because it relies the railwaystation (St-Pieters) to the center of the city. So, there is a tram-stop at 50 m of my house, where you can take tram n°1 direct to the historical center. The 'Citadelpark' is the biggest park in town, only 250m of my house. And not so for away is sport and green area center 'Blaarmeersen' and 'Watersportbaan'. In resume: a very good location and starting point to discover Gent.
In my neighborhood, you can easily do all kind of shopping, especially food: bakeries, butchery, fishery, bio-food, asian shop but also chinese, mexican and sushi restaurant and pharmacy are next to the house, most of them in the 'Kortrijkse Steenweg'. There are also some sandwich bars and some pubs, whom most famous is 'De Karper', a pub famous for soccer events.
Don't do any things that you shouldn't want to be done in your own house.
Nice studio, perfect for our city trip. It has everything you need and is only a short walk from the train station. To the city its about 15 to 20 minutes walking, there is also a tram but we never took it. Tomas was very kind and seems like a great person.
An excellent and interesting apartment in a good location. The space had everything we needed and Tomas was helpful and informative when we arrived, letting us keep our bikes in his house. No complaints!
Tomas was very responsive by email, and was friendly and helpful when we arrived.
The room was as described, had everything we needed, and is in a good location, especially if you need to make many trips to the main train station of Ghent.
Tomas'room is like having your own appartment! It was truly very nice to have your own bathroom and stove! The room was clean, there were loads of clean towels and the bed is high but cormfortable.
Tomas himself was very friendly and nice. We only met him briefly and then we were out all days an nights so we did not meet up or spoke much, but our impression was a nice, friendly and helpful host!
The city centre is about 10 min walking so very do-able and otherwise the tram is around the corner, so easy does it! And last but not least, do try the restaurant Pakhuis! Its very nice :)!
Tomas' place has been my home-from-home while I've been studying in Ghent over the last four months. It's always very comfortable and cosy and it has everything you need.
We really enjoyed staying at Tomas' studio - it's a great location, very comfortable and Tomas gave us a warm welcome and tips for our visit. It's so close to shops and the train station and about a 20 min walk to the centre or a short tram ride.
I live in Gent since I was a student, Bio-engineer. I worked first as development agent for a Belgian NGO in drinking water projects, especially in Africa. Now I work as a teacher of sciences and geography. I don't have any specialized hobbies, but I have lots of interests, to discover the world, people, nature and to learn how to live this life! I like talking & walking, nature, music and movies and my ambitions are green & peaceful!
