The Space

We have a guest room available in our 2 bedroom apartment. You will be sharing an apartment with a 50 year old Christian Lady and her 22 year old daughter. We only wish to host females and couples only.

The apartment is located in the heart of Williamsburg Brooklyn. We are within walking distance of the Williamsburg Bridge, Restaurants, Lounges and shopping. There are great lounges and bars right across the street. The famous Peter Luger Steak House is right up the block. You are only 10-15 minute walk to the L Train on Bedford Avenue. We are so close to the City that you could walk right over the Williamsburg Bridge and are only 2 blocks away from the Williamsburg waterfront.

Williamsburg is arguably the hippest part of New York City, and certainly has all the amenities to justify that claim. The apartment is a short stroll from some of the best restaurants the city has to offer: Marlow & Sons, Diner, Roebling Tea Room, Moto, Walterfoods and Egg just to name a few. Trendy bars can pretty much be found on every corner from the cheap $6 shot & beer - Trophy bar to the Absenthe and Oyster Bar - Masion Premier to the high end Cocktail bar - Hotel Delmano. If you want to dance then The Woods and Bembe are close. And to balance the health/fun ratio there's a local New York Parks and Recreation Fitness Centre with swimming pool right on Metropolitan and Bedford.

The building is busy during the summer and there are always people sitting out front enjoying the summer months. However the apartment is very quiet. We do not have parties nor allow consumption of alcoholic beverages inside. The apartment is located on the 4th floor of an elevator building. The room has a new queen size bed and dresser. There is also television with basic cable and internet available. The room is private with you own lock and key. The bathroom is shared with us. There is a fridge and kitchen available if you want to cook.

Clean towels and linens are provided.

  • It was nice to stay at Dinorah and Elem's home. We had a great time in New York, living in a quiet and clean place. I recomand it to travelers who want to visit New York, because of the proximity with the subway-station. The subway- traiin will bring you to Manhattan in 10 or 15 minutes.
The shops around are very convenient.
Because of being in front of Manhattan, the view at the sunset is wonderful if you go walking around the house.

  • My stay was a wonderful experience. Dinorah and Elem were welcoming hosts, I felt very much at home even with my unconventional schedule. The apartment was clean and secure. The neighbourhood is fantastic, with great access to Manhattan as well as Brooklyn's attractions. Great food and interesting culture in the neighbourhood. I felt safe walking home from the subway late at night. I would definitely stay again.

  • Elem and Dinorah made me feel very much at home. I only saw Elem a few times, but each time she was friendly and asked if I needed anything. Dinorah speaks primarily Spanish, but we understood each other despite the language barrier. They were flexible with my check-in time when I asked to arrive earlier than planned. When I checked in, Elem was not there but immediately answered her phone when I called. She let me know that her mother check me in. Dinorah gave me a warm welcome and gave me keys to the apartment and my room. I slept in late every day I was there, and even though they got up earlier than I did, they were very considerate and quiet.

This listing’s descriptions and photos are accurate. Everything was nice and clean, even the bathroom (which is something I always greatly appreciate). I got two clean, large, and fluffy towels. The wireless internet connection was easy to set up and reasonably quick. I did not use the TV, heater, AC, or intercom so I have no comments regarding those. The only part of the kitchen I used was the sink and the fridge (to get filtered water), and both were in good working condition.

The bedroom was spacious. It had a comfortable bed, a full-length mirror, and a closet with hangers. The electrical outlets on one of the walls had loose sockets so none of my devices would stay plugged in, but there was a power strip behind the bed so I still had several electrical outlets to use. They had a basket full of tourist guides to read in case you need them. There were cute touches in the apartment that I enjoyed: glow-in-the-dark stars on the bedroom ceiling, a koala-shaped light switch cover, an aquarium in the living room, butterfly decorations in the kitchen, and a potted flower in the bathroom.

The neighborhood is trendy and with several nearby stores, restaurants, and places for entertainment. I felt safe walking back from the subway station at night. The nearest subway station, Marcy Ave, is the first stop in Brooklyn for the J and M lines coming in from Manhattan so it took very little time for me to get to/from Manhattan.

Tips: If you have trouble using a VPN on their wireless connection (and are using a Windows OS), try changing your network security type to “No authentication (Open)” and the encryption type to “WEP”. If you visit before July 6, 2014, the Domino Sugar Factory (four blocks away) has an art instillation called “A Subtlety” aka “The Marvelous Sugar Baby” (which has the naked female form on a very large scale and might not be for all of you).

Stay here if you enjoy a homey environment, want a quick commute to Manhattan, and like the trendiness of Williamsburg. Do not stay here if you are likely to come back to the apartment drunk, loud, and/or with guests in tow.

  • Nice room (clean and comfortable). Very good location, very close to Marcy Av (Line J, Z and M), one stop to New York City. Privacy. Dinorah (the mother) was there always trying to help us in everything we needed. She speaks spanish as we do, so it was perfect for us. We saw Elem last night and during check out. Gracias Dinorah y Elem por su amabilidad.

  • The bedroom was ok, clean and functional, although during the night there was an annoying noise from some pipe in the wall.
We only met Elem (briefly), she was very friendly during the first ten minutes, when showing the apartment, but after that we had the sensation that we were bothering her... a very curious contrast to her first attitude. (Another little detail: the internet password she had given to us didn't work, we have told it to her but she didn't have tried to resolve it).

  • My friend and I spent five full days and were very thankful for Elem's hospitality. She let us come early and leave later because of our bus scheduling and made us feel very welcome. A nine minute walk to a frequent subway train. Clean room and facilities! Thanks again!
