This 2 bedroom flat comfortably fits 2 couples. Mere blocks from Mexicantown and 3 miles from Downtown, the neighborhood is wonderfully diverse. Enjoy dozens of restaurants, visit our thriving community gardens, or checkout the neighbor's chickens. You may not want to leave!
You can relax and enjoy all of the comforts of home here. Hot tea awaits you upon arrival, and coffee and all its companions (cream, sugar, honey, stevia) are provided; guests not even need venture to the shared kitchen for it as the coffee maker and fixings are located in their private suite. The closets are stocked with extra blankets and guests control the thermostat. The WiFi is free and fast. Should you find yourself in need of a hairdryer, curling iron, q-tips, or any other forgotten personal items, simply call your hosts upstairs and we'll do our best to accommodate you!
Guests have their own private apartment with separate entrance which includes: 2 bedrooms (one queen bed, one full bed), 1 full bathroom, living room, dining room, front porch, and free wifi. Additionally, guests have access to a shared kitchen at all times and access to laundry facilities upon request. Parking is on the street, but there is almost always a spot directly in front of the house, and never more than one block away.
I love greeting guests when they arrive and making sure they have everything they need. Beyond that, I will give you your space and will not knock on your door unnecessarily. I am always available by phone for urgent matters.
Come experience what the Detroit buzz is all about! You've probably heard a lot about the exciting grassroots work that is happening as Detroiters put on their thinking caps and their gardening gloves and reimagine their city together. Southwest Detroit is the place to come to experience it for yourself! We are located close to community gardens, walking distance from the famous Telway burger stand, across the street from cheap, authentic Mexican cuisine, and right smack in the middle of the filming site of the Academy Award winning documentary, "Searching for Sugar Man". If you want to experience what all the hubbub is about, this is the place to stay.
If you've never been to Detroit before, I do feel compelled to prepare you for some of the visual aspects of your experience that may be alarming. While our neighborhood is very safe, you will see things like burned buildings, vacant/abandoned properties that are not maintained, and quite a bit of litter. These things are the result of a city struggling financially for many years. If you're using Airbnb, I imagine you're interested in getting a more authentic picture of Detroit, and these things are a part of the "real Detroit" that you are seeking. Again, our neighborhood is very safe, our neighbors are friendly and engaged in their community, and all of our guests so far have loved their stay! I just wanted to remind potential visitors that you are coming to Detroit, which may look very different on the surface than what you are used to seeing in other US cities. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask. We love our neighborhood and could talk about it all day!
We are in an ideal location for getting around Detroit. Just three miles straight down Michigan Avenue will have you downtown, and we are one block from I-94. A welcome guide is provided with information on our favorite places to check out, but if you have any specific questions about getting around the city, don't hesitate to give us a call!
Early check-in and late check-out are often workable. Contact me in advance if this is a need of yours!

Kelli you hit it out the park! You brought a new meaning to "LESS IS MORE!!", Simplicity at its finest. and So creative with the space. It seems that you and your family took the time to focus on your guests needs.. You put yourself in the shoes of the Average/Everyday person who is looking for a nice quiet place to rest quietly for a few days. All the way down...to providing Mini Shampoos and Conditioners..., A coffee grinder... vs. packets... for the freshest tasting coffee... Ya see....for me, its the little things...and you did them so well!
Kelli was awesome. She was incredibly sweet, caring, and fun to talk to. Plus the apartment had anything a traveling heart would need, all the way down to extra blankets and pancake mix.
I did not get to meet Kelli, but her husband and daughter were incredibly gracious hosts. The space is super clean, comfortable, and sizable.
Hands down the best AirBNB I have ever stayed at!!!
Kelli is the best host! She made us feel extremely welcome, offered suggestions, and made sure we had everything we needed - including a coffee station complete with raw local honey!
Private and spacious -- this 1920s home is stunning. Extremely clean with all of the amenities. Cozy and the perfect place to retire after a day of exploring.
If you are heading to Detroit (or in the metro Detroit area) stay here! Close to the freeway, and about a 5min drive to Corktown, 12min drive to downtown.
No doubt we will stay here again. Thank you Kelli!
This was my first experience with Airbnb. The standard for future stays has been set high. The flat was spacious and beautiful (it is exactly as pictured!). The restoration they did on the place was very good. The location was good for getting around town easily. The community was conducive to being an experience all by itself with local bars and eateries and architectural history.
It was obvious the host was very attentive to every detail that would make a stay enjoyable. The place was very clean and the nuanced decorations, furnishings, all the way down to the burning candle, all made me feel comfortable upon entering from the very first time.
The sleeping arrangements were comfortable and the bathroom precious. The kitchen doesn't have a lot of counter space but it has everything you need to prepare meals. You share the kitchen.
Meeting Kelli and Emma were an extra bonus for my stay. Kelli is very knowledgeable about the area and its history. I was concerned about staying in Detroit but Kelli's demeanor put my mind at ease. I even trusted to park my car on the street with her assurance it would be safe. And it was safe.
One of the reasons I chose Kelli's is because it is a nonsmoking facility. Another reason I chose it was because it had a stated quiet hours policy of from 10 pm to 6 am. Note that the family rises earlier rather than later and in the morning you can hear them walking, given they live upstairs.
The family is very non-intrusive. Your space is your space. You have your own entrance. However if you need anything they are responsive.
There is a lot of communication in advance of the first day of the stay. All questions are answered and every chance is given to make sure you have your questions answered prior to your arrival.
If I decide to stay at an Airbnb in Detroit again, I will check availability at kelli's first...can't imagine that a better experience exist.
Kelli's 2-bedroom apartment was perfect for our stay in Detroit. The rate was much more affordable than the local hotels (the Auto Show was in town, so hotel rates were inflated) and the home's close location to I-94 made traveling to and from our destinations throughout the days super-easy.
Kelli was excellent as a hostess. This was our first AirBnB stay but she made it smooth and easy. She even presented me and my husband with a special anniversary gift upon check-in!
The home is old but decorated with a nice mix of new and vintage pieces. Since Kelli and her family stay upstairs and it's an old house, we definitely heard all their movements. Not their voices, but every step. If you're a light sleeper, I'd suggest earplugs. Jake and I didn't spend much time at the suite, but it was comfortable when we did. There's no TV, but we don't watch TV at all. But this may matter to you. Kelli also had tea and coffee available if you felt like warming up with a cup. Overall, we felt super-welcomed at this rental.
The queen bed was a little firm for us, but it was just fine for a couple nights. Kelli provided many clean towels for our stay as well! The shower was nice and hot. She even had extra blankets (which is perfect because it was FREEZING outside during our stay!).
Although she's no longer serving breakfast (something we were looking forward to!), Kelli did make up for it by having some breakfast provisions available for us to make ourselves. After an expensive weekend of eating out, making breakfast at our rental was welcomed.
Jake and I would definitely book this suite again. It was a cozy space with a gracious host and its convenient location made visiting all the best Detroit spots a breeze.
HUGE and warm space! Kelli was a great host, and her place was perfect for a night in Detroit.
Great breakfast! great value. Responsive, gracious hostess!
Spent a couple days. A great place to stay, warm and very inviting. Kelli was very communicative, and very willing to help in any way. She had many recommendations for the area, which helped a lot!
Kelli was a fantastic host and made us feel welcome. Great communication. Burritos were terrific! Easy location, about $10 to downtown. Highly recommend
