The Space

Our family has stayed with airbnb members in Costa Rica, Nicaragua and throughout the States. We finally finished the renovation of the interior of our "turn of the century" Pittsburgh home and decided we would like to return all of the great hospitality and host.

Your large room is located on the first floor of our three story house. It has refinished original pine wood floors, high ceilings and your own private bathroom. Eclectic art decorates the room, making it a truly unique space. WiFi is available throughout the house.

Oakland is the "brains" of Pittsburgh. It houses Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Carlow University as well as the world-famous UPMC Medical Center. Our house is located within easy distance to all of these institutions. If that wasn't enough, we are also a stones throw from the Phipps Conservatory, Carnegie Museums and historic Carnegie Library. Stroll down to Oakland's main business district where you will find a vibrant mix of coffee shops, restaurants and bars. Our brother-in-law runs "Red Oak cafe" just down the street and we will hook you up with one of his famous "OTY" smoothies to get your morning started.

Pittsburgh has seen a "green revolution" over the past ten years. Make sure to get out on the river for a kayak paddle, hike one of our beautiful city parks (Schenley Park is just two blocks our house) or ride one of our riverfront bike trails. Our house has easy access for bus, bike or car to downtown. Many direct busline stops are at the end of the street, taking you within minutes to Duquesne University and blocks from the convention center. My husband bikes to work on the Southside and loves to show visitors how to get around the city on two wheels. We have an extra hybrid bike that you are more than welcome to use while you are here to take a tour.

Welcome to Pittsburgh!

  • If you need to travel to Pittsburgh and want to feel like a visiting relative, while being central to culture, universities, shopping and business, you will feel right at home here! Amy and Michael have created a sweet and cozy, artistic guest room with private bath in their home. It was a delight to stay with such a vibrant family in a quiet neighborhood, a short drive from so many other neighborhoods and within an easy walk of restaurants, parks, Phipps Conservatory, and countless other amenities. I will most definitely look them up when I come in to stay next time.

  • My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to stay with Amy and her family during a recent spur of the moment trip to Pittsburgh. From the moment we arrived they were all incredibly welcoming and amazing hosts. They took time to talk to us about where we wanted to go and what we should see during our time in the city. Amy also graciously arranged passes for us to the botanical gardens and the Warhol Museum. The room was incredibly clean and exactly as pictured. Overall our stay was fantastic and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Amy's place! Thanks again for the wonderful hospitality!

  • Staying in this room was perfect. It was so clean, spacious, and had beautiful light. I was attending a conference at UPMC and the room was a perfect locale, about a 15-20 minute walk, which was a nice way to relax at the end of the day. Schenley Park was very close by and it was lovely to be able to explore a little. Amy was such a fantastic host. She was very warm, had such kind energy, and generously gave me a ride to the airport. It was so nice to chat with her and learn more about her work and travels. I only briefly met her husband, and he was also nice about checking in on me and making sure I was comfortable. Very lovely place. When I'm next in Pittsburgh, I will definitely be staying here again. Thanks so much for your kind hospitality!

  • A wonderful experience in a historic yet beautifully updated suite. Amy and her family were away for the weekend, but she left us goodies, local guides, and kept in close contact with us. The weekend could not have gone better. We were especially excited to be so close to Andy Warhol's childhood home, hust a Fe houses down the street. Parking was super easy too. Thank you Amy!

  • Amy and Michael are incredibly gracious hosts, and we had a fantastic weekend. We visited Pittsburgh for our friends' wedding at Heinz Memorial Chapel, and their house is ideally located for scenic strolls to Pitt's campus. We filled our days by exploring other spots in Pittsburgh, including The Warhol, the Strip District, and Phipps Conservatory, and Amy and Michael provided restaurant recommendations, directions, and passes to museums. We shared an amazing and delicious breakfast with them and their daughters on their outside patio with homemade crepes, biscuits, and local honey. We felt so welcome in their home and loved our stay!

  • My husband and I stayed here for two nights while visiting Pittsburgh for a friend's wedding. The room is exactly what you would expect from the photograph and listing; clean, charming, and comfortable. What we did not expect was how amazingly wonderful this family is! Mike and Amy are the best hosts; they treated us almost like family, were very fun to chat with, and provided us with much information and advise on how to move around the city and get the most out of our visit. As first time airbnb-ers, we lucked out tremendously by finding the best place to stay! --Muchas gracias y nos vemos pronto!

  • I have no words to describe how amazing our experience was. We stayed with Amy and Michael for a week when we moved to Pitt from another country. I can not thank them enough for making this drastic and huge change so easy for us.

Everything was perfect and far better than expected. The room, the bed, the bathroom were very comfortable and extremely clean.

    5 Stars out of 5.

  • Judi and I stayed at Amy's recently and it was wonderfull. Amy (and Michael) was a very gratious host. The room was better than as described. Their house is very nice and convenient for a walk to the Pitt campus and the main shopping area. She provided adequate parking. Bus transportation is also very convenient to go almost anywhere in Pittsburgh. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again in the future. Our grandson has just graduated from Pitt and he is going to live in Pittsburgh so I know we will be back often. Thank you Amy, we hope to see you again soon.

  • We had a wonderful stay at Amy's. The weather was great, and the place was exactly as described in the listing. Amy was kind enough to arrange for us to get in and access her house while she was away at work and 5 hours before the usual check-in time since we arrived via an early flight. Amy was always available to answer a question or help us with something via SMS or phone.

The house is a nice 8-10 minute walk to UPitt/CMU, and all the major bus lines that can take you anywhere in/around the city. Its also not too close to UPitt which is good because UPitt students can get rowdy on weekend nights and make a ton of noise. There is also a Panera bread to get your morning dose of coffee/breakfast.

Highly recommend if you are looking for a nice comfortable stay near the universities, and don't mind walking a bit. We hope to be back here on our next visit!

  • What a wonderful stay! I had the chance to be hosted by Amy, Michael and their daughters for almost on month…and it was really a great experience! They do everything to make you feel at home…and this was exactly what I was looking for while choosing AirBnB. I really enjoyed talking with Michael and Amy while having dinner and joining Amy and the girls for a great ice cream one evening! ;-) What else can I say: the house is at walking distance from CMU (10-15 minutes) in a very quiet suburb; the only small drawback is that there are not so many grocery possibility around…but you can easily join Amy or Michael when there are going to do their grocery by car (in emergency there are anyway small shops at walking distance). The room is exactly like in the picture: very well furnished, comfortable…and incredibly clean! ;-) If I will be back in Pittsburgh, I will surely ask Amy and Michal to host me again!
