The space

Just a fifteen minute walk to the "Jardin"(center of town), this great house in Atascadero has the charm of a country house, a spectacular view of Centro, plus extensive gardens and a great pool.

A unique, luxurious and comfortable vacation home filled with light, warmth, hospitality and privacy.

Bright, three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home with two fireplaces, a luxurious heated pool (private enough for skinny dipping!), two terraces and an inviting garden where orange and pomegranate trees and a rainbow of blooms invite you in.

Fully furnished, down to the cable tv, high speed internet for your laptop, VCR, telephone, dishwasher and microwave, it looks out on the pool, the sweet sleepy town of San Miguel and the mountains off in the distance.

Perched on a hillside in the exclusive residential area of El Atascadero, you'll find Casita del Sol. After you enter the unassuming gate and walk across the pretty entry garden (grass, flowers, fruit trees) to the antique door into the compact brick bungalow, you are suddenly surprised by the spacious living/dining room, new kitchen, with it's cathedral ceiling and the bright, cheerful interior graced by equipale furniture and a wood-burning fireplace.
Through the picture windows and doors, you can enjoy forever views of 180 degrees. The terrace that runs the full length of the living/dining room overlooks the backyard garden and pool area. A table and chairs provide a great place for sundowner drinks as well as an al fresco breakfast or lunch. The new kitchen is nicely equipped granite countertops, with large and small appliances, and a pantry. There is also a half-bath for guests on this level.
You descend to the lower level via the unusual wood staircase. The master bedroom, with king bed, fireplace and en suite bath enjoys a view of the pool. The second bedroom has a queen bed, comfortable sitting area and en suite bath. Both bedrooms have a bank of closets.
Across the pool patio with its relaxing recliners, is a twin-bedded third bedroom. The bath that adjoins it also serves as a changing room for pool guests. The free-form pool is kept warm by a gas-fired furnace, and is sparkling clean, thanks to a poolman who comes several times a week.

The maid, Chila, and the gardener Trini, each come Monday, Wednesday and Friday to cater to your needs. There is also a professional manager on call, if you should need any repairs. There is off street parking, should you arrive via car
The home is furnished with many amenities: SIRIUS satellite radio with 100 commercial-free stations, cable TV, VCR, wireless high speed internet connection (for your laptop), automatic washer, chaise lounge chairs, massage table, electric mattress pad warmers as well as down comforters on all beds.

Other things to note

Please bring comfortable walking shoes..the cobblestoned streets of San MIguel require them. Leave the Manolo Blahniks at home.
There's no Gay bar in SanMiguel...they've tried to open them, but they become too popular with the straight folks. Friday evenings at "Berlin" Bar and "Tapas" bring like minded gay and lesbian folks together.
My favorite bar in town is just down the hill, "La Sirena Gorda" (the fat mermaid)...awesome fish tacos, steamed artichokes and martinis made with fresh grated ginger...

The house is really spectacular. The only issue we had was that the GPS indicated that the house was about half a block down Portón Street. It is just up the hill from the intersection of Porton and Santa Domingo. The house has a yellow wall and is called Casita del Sol.

San Miguel de Allende was a fabulous spot, and this house made the trip even better. Joe was a great host. He was responsive to our questions, and his house is perfect for a getaway. The pool was a nice touch, the walk was easy on the way down, but the hike up hill was a work out. (Truth be told, we took Taxi's home most nights as it's only 50 pesos.) Pictures don't do it justice. Go see for yourself. It's worth the trip, and I would prefer this little paradise over an a hotel any day. (You can always walk down the street for a spa treatment if you choose ;-) Enjoy it all!

The house, gardens and view are beautiful, and we really enjoyed our stay. Having 4 bathrooms was great since we were a large group, and we like having all of the bedrooms downstairs. Having such a beautiful home in such a picturesque town made our stay extra special. Unfortunately for us, the pool heater was broken, so we were only able to enjoy the water if the sun was out and the day was hot. Thank you, Joe for sharing your home with us. We made many memories there that we will cherish always.

Response from Joe:
thank you very much, Susan for your generous review. Regret the less than cooperative pool boiler, an important valve of which, it seems failed. We've commissioned repairs. If you'd favor us with another visit, Susan, we would "comp" you a free night's stay as a small effort to make up for the loss of your swim time.

The location is super, the pool is nice, the kitchen is up to date and fully equipped. Very nice gardens. Close to the Tuesday market which was great fun and a super place to buy fresh vegetables. Walking to town is not an easy walk, a car was totally necessary to get around the town. We enjoyed cooking and sitting out by the pool.

The house and grounds are immaculate and lovely. The pool is a dream. This is one case in which the pictures didn't do the place justice. Kitchen was well-stocked, linens and beds were comfortable, bathrooms are pretty, plenty of space to stretch out and relax.

Joe and his staff were great!!! The house is so cute and well equipped to host a large group. We had 4 adults and 4 kids and were very comfortable. Negative Comments made about water pressure and cleanliness we found untrue. Chilla the housekeeper stocked us up with basic breakfast items so we could feed kids immediately
