The Space

This luxury home is being offered as a one, two or three bedroom but whatever configuration you choose you will have the entire property to yourself. (We used to rent out the upstairs only so many reviews mention the family downstairs - but now the only family downstairs is YOU!) If you would like to rent the house as a one or two bedroom please ask me for a special offer - all prices shown are for three bedrooms.

This modern home was custom built and includes the upstairs mountain view covered 18 foot hot tub deck, hardwood floors, granite counters and African Mahogany cabinets. There are Koehler fixtures throughout and the two tile/granite bathrooms both include showers with independently plumbed double shower heads and infinite on demand hot water.

Your choice of bedrooms includes the upstairs queen room with full bathroom and adjacent to the four person hot tub on the large upstairs covered deck. This room has a 32 inch high def tv and the queen bed has brand new bedding including new pillows, German cotton blanket and cotton comforter - but note no coverings on the windows. Downstairs is a king room (with a supreme comfort talay latex mattress that includes four inches of high density memory foam) with bamboo blinds and a room with two twin beds.

Your stay includes indoor and out door dining options, living room with 48 inch flatscreen high def tv and gourmet kitchen with extra high granite counters, stainless steel appliances including dishwasher and everything you need to create culinary magic. The kitchen is open to the dining and living areas and in fact I designed the house with dinner party hosting in mind. The dining table will seat six.

The upstairs queen room includes a 32" HD flat screen television with satellite channels and yet another outdoor dining or smoking table.

Halemaumau is just over ten minutes away and is an effortless way to (email hidden) volcano - it's next to the Jagger Volcano Museum and is a must-see part of the area. Plan a trip into the Volcanoes National Park after dark.

The upstairs honeymoon style floor features breathtaking views of two of the most magical mountains in the world: Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa which can be seen from the room or from the large hot tub on the private 18 foot second story deck! This deck is the true jewel of the home. The deck is covered and the four person (actually fits more than that!) Baja spa hot tub can be enjoyed rain or shine. A private hot tub is somewhat rare in Volcano - and the views are absolutely beyond compare. You just might agree that this is the best view of anywhere you could stay in Volcano! And according to my mom on the whole island :)

The house has wireless internet (3g style medium speed mifi). There is a landline phone and you can unlimited free local calls - and to anywhere in the Hawaii, the U.S. and Canada.

The kitchen includes coffee maker - of course - and we will supply you with coffee, filters, creamer and sweeteners and tea. There is filtered drinking water and we provide a tropical fruit bowl from the seasonal offerings of our local farmers market. Stainless steel side by side fridge dispenses water and ice.

The house is just over 20 miles from the Hilo Airport and the amazing privacy is conveniently located on a paved dead end street (again with no immediate neighbors) just a minute or two from Highway 11. We are less than four minutes by car from the shops and restaurants of Volcano Village and from there it is just about a minute to the Volcano National Park which some years is literally the most popular destination in all of Hawaii. Just past the park entrance is the Volcano Golf and Country Club and the Volcano Winery which offers wine tastings every day until 5pm. Nearby can be found some of the most fabulous hikes in all the world. We are at about 2800 feet and the weather is often cool and rainy. On a sunny day it is pure perfection here and it is almost always the perfect temperature to exercise.

I have lived on almost every island in Hawaii and have spent the last ten years working in real estate on the Big Island so I know these islands extremely well and as your host am happy to spend time helping you plan your itinerary or answering any questions you might have.

The house is non-smoking but you are welcome to smoke on the front porch (which has a lovely outdoor dining table) or the upstairs deck.

Please contact me if you have any questions at all.

Guest Access

Private use of a fenced gated property with custom home including private second story large covered deck with table and chairs - and two full bathrooms no matter how many bedrooms you are using.

Interaction with Guests

Guests will check themselves into the house which has a security system with keyless entry. I am almost always available via phone and email for any requests, questions or anything that should arise but if all goes well guest will have total privacy and will not see anyone else on the property.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is super convenient and just a couple minutes from shops, restaurants, a Post Office and the Volcanoes National Park. Hilo is just 30 minutes down the hill. The Atkatsuka Orchid Garden is just about one minute down the highway toward Hilo. And the neighborhood is a nice one to walk through - one can go a mile up the hill or walk back toward the forest reserve and stay on the relatively flat lands. Although there are many more spectacular hikes in the Volcanoes National Park so you may not have time to walk around Royal Hawaiian Estates.

Getting around

One really needs a rental car to get around the Big Island. Our public transportation is inconvenient and cabs are completely overpriced. Please try to book a rental car as far in advance as possible.

Other Things to Note

Plan on visiting the park after dark to see the live Volcano ten minutes away at Halemaumau. You can brave the chilly night air at the Jagger Museum overlook or view Halemaumau from the warmth and comfort of the Volcano House. The restaurant requires reservations but you can also view from the bar (which has food and is kid-friendly) or even from the sitting room in between - no purchase required there.

  • This house was one of the nicest houses I've stayed in on AirBNB. It's in the remote area of Volcano and lends itself to a very very relaxing vacation. You can't see another house from the roof - its that nice and secluded!

The house was very clean and comfortably fit our small group of friends! There were three very spacious and comfortable bedrooms. The house has all the amenities you can want, and it was was very clean.

Best part was definitely the rooftop hot tub!

    Hands down, two thumbs up!

  • Sadly, it looks like I can only give five stars for my top review. Anyone reading here, please see this as a six-star review. The Mauna Kea view house is wonderful--all the comforts of home, but without the snow. ;-)

This was our first Airbnb rental, so we weren't sure exactly what to do at each step. Krish was very helpful in making us feel confident in the process. Her directions and suggestions were excellent, and we would certainly rent from her again.

This is an ideal location for anyone who wants to explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Ten minute drive to the park, so you really can spend all your time hiking and exploring. About a 40 minute drive to 'Akaka Falls and 30 minutes to Hilo.

The rooms are lovely and Krish supplies EVERYTHING--I didn't have to buy Saran wrap or dishwashing liquid or coffee! There were even little bananas that ripened in a day, and we ate them up like candy. The grounds make you feel very secluded. Plentiful supply of nice towels, and comfy beds. Maybe six stars isn't enough!

  • The Hot tub house worked out well for our family of 5. A comfortable, clean home with convenient location to Volcano park and village. The hot tub was a nice bonus too! Krish was very friendly and accommodating. The security system was a little confusing but didn't pose a problem. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone interested. Thanks Krish!

  • Krish was extremely helpful and the house was great -- beautifully decorated, clean, and well taken care-of. Recommended!

  • Absolutely great! We were really impressed with this place. The hot tub was obviously the best part. The house had everything we could possibly need. Krish provided tons of details about the house and also the local area. Wish we could have stayed longer.

  • Krish was flexible with the booking as the first time we scheduled a tropical storm was about to land. She offered to credit us a different night which was very helpful. The day we arrived to check in at our agreed 3pm time however, the house wasn't done being completely cleaned and we had to wait another 30 minutes outside with our friends while Krish and her husband finished things up. The house was in the end very tidy and clean and we felt comfortable. There was a mild mildew smell throughout the house but this is fairly typical of homes in Volcano since it is so wet in the region. Overall we had a good experience and the home was as expected. The rooftop hot tub was a great addition!

  • We had complete privacy in a beautiful home during our visit. Krish was very responsive in helping us find the house in Volcano.

Krish recommended a guide to take us on a hike to experience lava flowing in break-outs from Kilauea into the Pacific.

The hot-tub was easy to use and so relaxing.

    May 2013
  • The room felt like a tree house in an ohia forest. The hot tub was a plus on a very wet morning. Krish was very gracious and her family welcomed us.

    February 2013
  • The room we stayed in was clean, and had everything we could need. The close proximity of the Volcanoes National Park to the house meant that we could maximise our short stay in the area.
