  • The big house is part of a compound. The visible garden is only part of the big house portion. The garden is big enough to include lots of flowering bushes and a large airy pine tree in which we saw several species of birds ( golden-fronted woodpecker, broadbilled hummingbird, great-tailed grackle, mockingbird which sang beautifully morning and evening), and others which I can't remember. I can think of no better way to wile away vacation hours relaxing with a cool drink on the patio which adjoins the living room of the big house overlooking the garden. And then there is the town of San Miguel de Allende which has wonderful things to do, places to go, restaurants etc.
There is a spacious living room/dining room area, and on the entry side of the house, another patio with the common entry to the compound which has a table and chairs in a shaded area next to the living room. There are more flowers and a tree.

The living areas look as though the owners cleaned the house, and left it for the guests with lovely rugs, a piano, art work in the shelves, and books to read. The bedrooms were spacious, and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom we were in had some short-lived leaks in the sink and toilet tank which were handled by slowing the speed of the water going down the drain (sink), and placement of a pot to catch the 5 second drip from the tank. The tub in our room was very slow to drain.
There is a family who does metal-work next door lunch. They don't start until about 8am, and stop about 5 or 6. Just beyond them is a family who will cook you a truly excellent lunch. Win some, lose some.

The kitchen had knives which were very dull, basic utensils and pots, a gas stove, and blender, immersion blender, french press, electric kettle, and lovely dishes. When we needed more glasses, Chipper provided them.

Chipper is very prompt in responding to requests, and pleasant to deal with. She provided good information about things beyond the house rental which made our stay very enjoyable.

For us this was the ideal reasonable priced vacation house. We felt like guests in the house, and sometimes things don't work as you expect; then you figure it out, ask for help or live with it. We cooked good meals, had company, ate out, and in general had a wonderful time in San Miguel with a home to retreat to. There is a caretaker who comes daily during the week to care for the outside. He also brought us bottled water at a reasonable price. Guests are responsible for sweeping the house on the inside - light duty.

  • We fell in love with this home! Beautiful courtyard off livingroom - perfect for relaxing in late afternoon. Location is perfect - quiet but easy stroll to Jardin and anywhere else in the city center.

Would not recommend for much cooking (but then, why would you cook when there are so many wonderful and reasonably priced restaurants?) as pots/pans etc were minimal. We made our own breakfasts and it was fine for that. Appreciated the coffeemaker!

Chipper responded right away to emails, very much appreciated!
