We only stayed one night but we wish we stayed longer. The Chateau, grounds and surrounding landscape are very beautiful. It's a really good balance between elegant family home and grand historic house, relaxed and welcoming but very special too.
The Guyonnaud family are gracious, generous and helpful hosts. The area is very pretty with rolling hills, rivers, canals and woodland. We'd definitely recommend staying here, and hope to return to explore some more!
The Chateau is beautiful and set amid magnificent gardens. The family who run it are delightful and make you feel very much at home. A real treat.
We had a very nice 2 day stay. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
We spent only one night at the Chateau on our drive to Paris...It was just amazing. The place is so nice and clean and the hosts are so friendly and welcoming. The gardens at Barbirey are amazing and breathtaking, you feel like you stepped back into time and living a fairytale.
For dinner, there is a very nice restaurant across the street owned by a super friendly Irish-French lady. For breakfast, we had fresh croissants and baguettes with honey, chocolate, and butter along with freshly brewed coffee, orange juice and the kids got a treat of hot chocolate.
I told my daughter that this would be a perfect location for a wedding -:)) They were actually preparing for one as we were checking out.
Would definitely try to make it back again.
Unbelievably beautiful grounds. If you like expansive views, get the rooms that look over the vast lawns, pond, and valley beyond instead of the interior courtyard.
Luxurious bathroom with lots of hot water, gracious and friendly hosts, and airy rooms.
Colas' father made a reservation for us in a nearby town called Chateauneuf. We arrived early at the restaurant his wife had tried and recommended in this beautiful stone village. We had predinner glasses of wine, a delicate white Cote du Rhone, in chairs pulled up in front of the 12 foot wide fireplace. The owners of the auberge obligingly added wood to the fire and brought us a little plate of appetizers to nibble on while we sat. Despite being hungry, we were loath to leave our cozy spot to sit in the dining room!
The eventual plan for Le Chateau de Barbirey is to host wedding parties, and it will be a magical spot for nuptials. If you've dreamed of getting married somewhere different and beautiful, the owners are currently adding 7 more rooms in the attic, plus there are many neighboring villages and an abbey with places for all your guests to stay. It's an easy three hour drive from Paris, yet it feels set apart. It makes me want to get married again to my husband. Very romantic indeed.
