This bijou 'Shanti' is unique. Peaceful isolation yet the convenience of being in a small community of nature lovers. The cottage is at Spirit of the Valley Yoga, with swimming in dam (with koi) a short walk away. Nature nurture!
The kitchenette comprises 2 burner hob, double sink, mini fridge, all the usual pots, chopping board, crockery and kitchen tools - BBQ available too.
The Shanti is in an isolated part of the garden, so you feel very private and utterly peaceful. The yoga studio is nearby and it's for your use when there is no class in session. Occasionally there is a retreat in the studio and main house. It's very pleasant to sit in the Shanti as it is in a small copse of very mature trees - an Imperial mango, almond, ackee, Saman and plumrose - these are enough to shelter the Shanti from the strong Caribbean sun. Sitting on the wide window sill watching the sea or the mountain is wonderful. 2 people fit comfortably, the cottage is very small. Upstairs is crawl/sit space only - like being in a tent.
Guests enjoy being part of a completely unique environment in St Vincent - the Shanti is in the garden of the only yoga retreat on the island, with stunning 360 degree views of mountains and sea. The gardens are mature with well tended paths, donkeys to pet, fruit to pick, a bamboo glade to sit in next to a waterfall, looking at stunning views; there is a dam 5 minutes away for swimming in; ping pong table; all of the outside spaces are available to wander in - please ring the bell of the main house if you need to talk to me.
Interaction with Guests
Guests are encouraged to wander the gardens and to enjoy the larger space around the Shanti. If guests would like yoga instruction or massage from qualified instructors/therapists, please contact me; laundry service also available at the main house.
I adore my neighbourhood because it is like living in the old days - even by Vincentian standards. There are a few dogs nearby and donkeys braying, but there are only a handful of cars and the occasional aunt walking her dog on the dirt road! You will meet all sorts of local characters and leave feeling you've experienced the real Caribbean.
The area of Queensbury is off the beaten track and the vans that run around the island can only be accessed by walking down a long hill (vans will bring you all the way up the hill if you pay them $5 extra). If you want to see the island, hiring a jeep is the best option; if you just want to make the occasional trip then talk to me about hitching a ride into town or going to the local supermarket with me. If there is any emergency then we have a jeep and can help you. There are lots of walks and hiking trails - one of them leads to Table Rock which is a large expanse of flattish rock with waterfalls and pools running between the rocks - all set in a completely natural mountainscape. It's very invigorating to swim in the mountain water and warm up on the rocks after.
Other Things to Note
There is no wi-fi at the cottage - but you are welcome to bring your laptop over to the house/verandah and use our wi-fi. Also, the cottage has one two gang electricity socket (240v) - one is used by the mini fridge. But there is an extension lead, also an adaptor. There is no oven - only a two ring gas burner hob. There is only cold water in the shower!
Smokers are welcome.
It was an awesome Stay at Rachaels Bottle House. I would recommend everyone to have that experience.
We stayed in the bottle house for two nights, and we loved it. The athmosphere, the view and later, when the sun had gone down, the sounds and fireflies just made us want to sit there on the porch and just enjoy. Rachael, her boyfriend Sandy and Sandys curious son Ocean were very friendly, generous and nice, and also were kind enough to drive us in the right direction when we lost the track on the short cut on the way to Vermont nature trail. They also shared much of our own thoughts about nature and the environment. The lovely surroundings, the cozy and comfy compact living bottle house, and the closeness to the beautiful Vermont nature trail would make this place my first choice any day.
Amazing place, perfect location and lovely hosts. A must stay place if your visiting SVG! Also, get yourself to Zen's Bush Bar whilst your there...
Rachael and Sandy, were both warm and accommodating.
The bottle house is absolutely adorable, and the view is 5-star, but it is a little adventurous.
If you're looking to hike the surrounding mountains, or a beautiful stopover on your way up the leeward side of St. Vincent, this is the place to go. If you're hoping to spend more time near Kingstown, you'll pay a bit extra for van fair.
Such a mystical and amazing spot! We wanted to stay longer! Very secluded and private!! Rachael was amazing and welcoming and full of love!
Just wonderful for Nature-Lovers who care for the environment. We had a warm welcome and a great stay!
Wonderful experience! A very peaceful and beautiful place to stay, this is the perfect combination of peace, serennity, some of the most beautiful landscapes in Saint-Vincent and friendly/helpful hosts that will respect your privacy and be there if you need anything. I strongly recommend it for people in big cities who need to take a break from the busy life style.
I am a hatha yoga certified teacher (Prana Yoga College, Vancouver) and I run a yoga studio here. My family live all around, there are quite a few characters and they are all very friendly and welcoming. Visitors to Queensbury are usually affected deeply by our way of life and leave feeling enriched!
I enjoy people's reaction to my homeland - I like to give advice and help where I can. This 'business' is about a way of life and "being the change we wish to see in the world". The cottage came about as a way to display how we can live very simply but beautifully - leaving more time simply to be!
