My wife and I had an awesome time in Fukuoka, staying in Shinichi's little apartment. We were there to do a quick visa run at the Korean consulate, and everything went perfectly. Shinichi offers services to come pick you up at the airport (for a small fee), but we declined (to save a little $$$ and because we only had backpacks anyway) and took the subway instead. Shinichi still came to the train station to make sure that we found his apartment just fine--no charge, of course. He walked us from the station to the apartment, pointing out little tidbits (shopping center, sumo training grounds, temples) along the way.
The apartment is located in a nice little area that feels a lot like the beach communities in California. Quiet, clean, and within walking distance to the beach, large shopping centers, the Fukuoka Dome, museums, temples, the subway station, and probably a bunch of other things we didn't have time to see/do.
The unit itself had plenty of space for the 2 of us. As other reviewers noted, there's a heating pad on the floor, tons of linens, towels, and he provides body soap/shampoo in the shower as well as cups/bowls/dishes and a gas burner in the kitchen area. There's even a washer in the unit and free wifi.
My wife and I had such a good time exploring Fukuoka that we're looking forward to coming back, and with the price/location/service offered by Shinichi, I'll be looking on here for his unit first.
(For what it's worth, he seems like a pretty cool dude. And his English is really good, for those that don't speak Japanese)
We really enjoyed Fukuoka, and found Shinichi's apartment a good location to explore the city from with bikes (which we also hired from Shinichi for the duration of our stay). The apartment was small but the bedroom a good size, the bathroom tiny and the kitchen not really as well equipped for cooking a meal as we might have hoped (one stove top, fridge, no microwave, minimal utensils, no bowls - so whilst having a kitchen was very handy, cooking in it was a bit of challenge!). The futons and pillows were very thin and uncomfortable (and yes, I am used to sleeping on a futon in Japan), so I unfortunately can't say we slept very well!
Shinichi was helpful and responsive, giving us good advice about the city and coming to pick us up from the airport (for 1000 yen) at late notice, so we really appreciate that.
