Beautifully furnished bedroom suite (includes private bath and sitting room with kitchen appliances) and use of full-screen TV room in elegant Victorian house on tree-lined street in the unique town of Montclair. A gourmet breakfast in a beautiful formal dining room is included. NYC (just 12 miles away) is easily accessible by train or bus (on corner) but Montclair has much to offer on its own--eclectic shopping, excellent restaurants, an art movie theater, a concert venue, a world-class museum, art galleries, an annual film festival, and more.
Fine furnishings and artwork can be seen in practically every nook and cranny of the house. There is a working artist's studio on the premises.
Perfect space for one or two people. Guests have access to queen bed, private bathroom, sitting room (includes small kitchen appliances for light cooking and a table for eating and working), and large-screen TV.
The large, late 19th Century, three story home is set in a neighborhood of tall trees and manicured lawns, a 10 minute walk from the Montclair business district. Our host - Janet Boltax - was gracious and thoughtful, providing amenities and information, recommending restaurants and shopping in the area, as well as how best to access Manhattan by public transportation directly from the neighborhood. Parking was ample in the drive-way behind the home, and the top floor suite of rooms actually exceeded our needs; large wide-screen HDTV, kitchen/dining area
with small refrigerator, micro-wave oven and two-burner hot plate, and modern bathroom with shower.
Our stay was probably unusual in that we were in the area for our son's planned surgery. Janet was very flexible in meeting our needs and she and her husband were very kind with their words of support. Our only complaint is that we did not have more time to visit with this lovely couple!
Janet's home would be a very charming, comfortable and convenient place for those wishing to visit NYC without staying in its congestion. Janet WILL make you feel comfortable... you cannot help but like her!
The accommodations at this gorgeous Victorian home were lovely and very comfortable. Janet is wonderful, attentive and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious! Couldn't ask for a better place to stay!!!
Thank you, Janet!
Janet was an excellent hostess. We had a lot in common and spent casual time talking about the town, surrounding areas and things to see. She is very knowledgeable about the antiques she owns and the lovely gilded age house she lives in. The whole top floor is yours and is quite comfortable. The bath is nice and toasty for a fall day. She had all the conveniences. Overall, the highest possible rating.
We loved our stay in this huge, beautiful house. We loved the Victorian look. The house is located in a really nice town. It has a lot of shops, restaurants and a direct bus connection to NYC (30-40 min). Janet and Jim were very kind and accommodating hosts. They offered great suggestions for things to do in the area and in NYC. We've enjoyed talking to them. Janet made us some very delicious breakfasts. We're looking forward to stay here next time.
We were greeted upon arrival, and had wonderful conversations around breakfast time. Since I am interested in art, hour host, Janet showed the art in her home and we were pleased to get a tour of her art studio. Very open and positive!
Our host made us feel welcome by giving us a tour of the rental area, checking with us about our needs for breakfast and giving us a key to her home. She let us know where to park and offered to give us recommendations for restaurants and anything else we might need. The house was well maintained and tastefully decorated and the neighborhood had a number of stately older homes in good repair. It felt quite safe. The apartment and neighborhood were very quiet and peaceful. There was plenty of room available and the lounge area was quite large. The breakfast was served in the dining room and was delicious and tastefully served. Our hostess was very responsive to our needed changes in schedule. We were greeted pleasantly by the family and made to feel at home.
Such a great experience from communication to the delicious breakfast. I felt truly welcome in the huge, beautiful house. The bedroom, bathroom, and small sitting room were truly private and elegant. Janet and I had great conversations, and she offered great suggestions on things to do in the area and in NYC. I look forward to staying at Janet's next time I'm in the area.
My husband Jim and are have just become empty nesters. We have three children; two in college and one just out of college. Jim is a physician and I am an artist and freelance writer. I specialize in painting oil portraits and printmaking. Guests will be able to see my art studio if they choose. I love to cook and will enjoy cooking you a delicious breakfast. I am also an avid fiction reader and enjoy all kinds of music from classic rock to Gregorian chants. My husband and I have travelled quite a bit, with and without our children, and enjoy hiking and kayaking. My husband is also a long-distance bicycle rider.
