Our cottage is quiet, private and a great place to relax. Room for one or two people, it has an en-suite bathroom, and off street parking. We're located at the start of the peninsula, just five minutes drive from central Dunedin. See you soon!
Our cottage is a lovely place to stay as you'll have complete privacy, a private bathroom, and free covered off-street-parking. In that sense, you've got the best of both worlds - on site hosts to help you figure out your local travel plans, and a private space to retire to as you wish!
Our home is situated five mins drive from the city centre (i.e. close but not too close!), has views of the habour, and we're located at the gateway to the Otago Peninsula, famous for Larnach's Castle, the Albatross colony, penguins, seals, stunning beaches, and one of the top 10 cycle roads in the world (according to Lonely Planet!).
Staying with us offers you great views, a comfortable private cottage, relaxed atmosphere, friendly local advice, outdoor spa (also known as a hot tub or jacuzzi), and most importantly a peaceful nights sleep.
The cottage has a queen-sized bed, and is perfect for one or two people.
You'll have access to areas within our house, including the kitchen (breakfast only), dining room, lounges and laundry. We also have a guest fridge available for your use.
Interaction with Guests
As much or as little as you like! We'd be delighted to help you with your travel plans, from local advice for the best things to do in the Dunedin area, to broader advice about your travels in New Zealand. We are very well travelled, and full of useful info!
That said, if you're looking for a private hideaway experience, that's totally cool too!
For the most part, we'll be around during your stay, however, from time to time we do take bookings while we're not at home, and we'll be clear in our communications with you as to our plans.
Dunedin is both under-rated and awesome. Whether you're into culture, architecture, outdoor activities, wildlife, history, a fun nightlife, or a quiet relaxing getaway, Dunedin has it all. We'd say more, but we don't want to give it all away - you've gotta come check it out for yourself!!
In regards to our neighbourhood, Andersons Bay is a relaxed quiet part of town, and we have a few restaurants and other facilities within easy walking distance. Nowhere is very far in Dunedin!
Off-street-parking is available in a covered carport adjacent to your cottage - so really handy in regards to handling baggage.
We are very conveniently located for public transport - there is a bus stop just 50 metres from our home!
If you're travelling around the South Island, Dunedin is 5 hours from Christchurch, 3 hours from Queenstown, and 2 hours from Invercargill. If you're arriving from (or heading to) the Dunedin airport, it's an easy 30 minute drive to our home (we recommend the supershuttle, it's way cheaper than a taxi, and doesn't take much longer). We'll provide you with a full description for locating our home when you book with us.

We are a pet-free, smoke-free home, which our guests appreciate :)
Fast responses to my communications and very welcoming to their beautifully appointed and immaculate cottage. Very comfortable, thank-you.
Booked this on behalf of friends visiting Dunedin. They felt Steve and Elke made them feel very welcome and the cottage was very clean and well presented. Dunedin accommodation was priced at a premium that weekend. As a result of the price they paid for the 2 nights, they would have appreciated a small electric jug with coffee and tea in the cottage to have a hot drink late at night. Otherwise very happy with everything.
Thank you kindly for the review, Julie! I had some lovely chats with your friends, and it was a pleasure to be their hosts. If they'd mentioned that they would have liked tea/coffee in the room, we could have teed it up for them (no pun intended!). We do of course have a wide selection of tea and coffee in the house, and guests are very welcome to help themselves at any time. That said, thank you for the feedback, as it helps us to be even better hosts in the future. Kind regards, Steve and Elke.
Highly recommended. The cottage was clean and spacious, with a very comfortable bed. Elke was extremely friendly and provided us with freshly washed towels. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Steve (hope your feeling better!).
Thank you for choosing to stay with us, we're glad you had a nice time and that you'll recommend us to others. Sorry that I didn't get a chance to meet you, but thanks for the message - I was done with the man-flu a day later gladly! Kind regards, Steve and Elke
Very Private Cottage, comfortable and very clean.
Elke and Steve had been perfect hosts and made my stay very enjoyable.
Direct answers on all mails and Elke was waiting for me when I arrived.
Steve has a very good knowledge about what is going on in the region and helped me to see everything I was looking for. It's only a short drive to the city, to the penguins and a about 1.5 hour drive to the Catlins. Nice is to have Wi-Fi at the place, makes it easy to plan the following trip. I liked the place a lot, aboslutly recommendable.
Steve did a great job of making us feel welcome and the cottage all that we needed. The evening we arrived we were having Internet connectivity problems and Steve when out and purchased a solution the next day. The cottage is comfortable and pleasant. The neighborhood offered no problems other than a shortage of nearby restaurants. However is is only a short drive to the center city.
Hats off to Steve and Elke for accommodating us on very short notice (booked on the day of check in). We found "the Cottage" to be clean, spacious, and located in a safe area. It is located off the main house, allowing for a nice amount of privacy. The bed was very comfortable, and the heating unit and electric blanket were welcome additions for those chillly autumn evenings. Steve was friendly and helped us plan our time in Dunedin and the peninsula.
A great place to stay!! Really central location close to city centre and otago peninsula - definitely recommend!!

We're well travelled - and enjoy outdoorsy stuff, music, hosting, meeting new people, learning new things, gardening, playing sport, reading, brewing beer, eating nice food and drinking nice wine!
ABOUT STEVE: I enjoy hosting airbnb guests and am a great ambassador for New Zealand, but hey, I'm not going to bleat on about it (enter token Kiwi/sheep joke here). If the calendar is blocked out for a bit, it's likely because I'm out hiking for a few days or leading a trip for my travel company - Aspiring Adventures - check it out some time!
When I travel, I like to mix up levels of accommodation from camping to the odd luxury lodge. I try to step outside the usual touristy stuff and tackle something a unique (I've climbed the highest peak in Fiji and Ecuador, slept in a cave in Turkey, have a godson in the Peruvian Andes after a trek to visit the "Lost Incas", and stayed with hunter-gatherers in the jungles of Vanuatu...).
ABOUT ELKE: I'm originally from Germany and love living here in Dunedin. I enjoy hosting guests from all over the world, and it's fun having German guests to talk about things back there. Like Steve, I enjoy travelling to new places. When at home I love gardening, baking, photography, arts and crafts, and expanding my Spanish language skills.
Hosting - well, hosting is great fun! To sum it up, it's like travelling without having to travel :)
