Our unique home will provide a once in a life time off-the-grid experience. Located in a secluded and remote location of the Western Navajo Nation, our home is easily accessible to local restaurants, stores, and not far from two natural wonders, the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.

The space
Our one room earth home is called a hogan. The accommodation is very basic with minimalist essentials for camping, no electricity or running water (we provide 5 gallons of water). It is located along the Little Colorado River and is 29 miles east of the Grand Canyon and a 1-hour drive north of Flagstaff.
It is on the family homestead of my grandmother's summer sheep camp.

We can accommodate 1 -2 guests based on your reservation request. Comfortable accommodations for two are shown in the pictures.

Navajo Nation Law: NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS allowed on our property

Cellular Services: Be prepared for cell phone service to be very limited on Navajo Nation depending on your provider.

Time Zones:
March-November Reservations: Navajo Nation recognizes Day Light Savings Time, however I use Pacific Standard Time (Same time as Phoenix) to avoid the confusion for all our guests.
November-March: Arizona is on Mountain Standard timezone.

Check In: Follow the descriptive directions provided in the House Manual when reservation is confirmed.

During your stay: I or co-host will be available by text/call for any questions you may have during your stay.

Weather/Temperatures:
MAY-OCTOBER-As stated in the

Expect summer temperatures to be over 100 degrees during the day and as low as 70 degrees at night. Please check the weather and temperatures before booking if you are not use to the Arizona heat.Best time to check in is at 7:30 PM.
JULY & AUGUST••••Please be aware that the dirt road conditions and river can be altered by unpredictable southwest monsoon weather including the rainstorms and flooding that would result in possible cancellation for your safety.

NOVEMBER-MAY-Temperature are colder and a wood stove will need to be used to keep warm.

Outhouse: There is no plumbing, a short brisk walk to an outhouse is available. Outhouse is located north of the hogan.

Lights: Flashlights will be on each bed for your use during your stay. Please use it all times after sunset. You are in the southwest where desert reptiles do live. A battery operated lantern is provided for indoor use.

Parking: You can park near the hogan as well as in front of the hogan.

Cooking: Firewood is provided for the use of the large stove outside near the shade shack.

Cast Iron Wood Burning Stove: The indoor stove has been placed back inside the hogan for winter season. We provide kindling, newspaper, lighter and firewood. It will be your responsibility to keep the fire going throughout the night for warmth.

Water: There is no running water, however, a 5-gallon water jug will be provided for your use such as drinking, bathing and washing dishes.

Beds: Each cot has a set of sheets (fitted, flat, pillowcase) pillow, and a wool blanket.

Pets: If you are traveling with a pet, please do not allow your pet on the wool blanket.

Wildlife: Coyotes howl around 2am-4am, they are harmless. Occasionally there are foxes, porcupines, antelope and rabbits.

Domestic: Horses and cattle roam near the homestead to graze.

The dirt road is a common road and used by locals so you will hears cars driving by day and night.

Lastly the home you will be staying in is a home. It is a very old and traditional structure built by our family. No etching in the logs or deconstruction or vandalism is allowed. Many ceremonies have taken place and many blessings/songs have been performed here to maintain balance and harmony with Mother Earth. Please be respectful as we would like to continue to allow travelers and tourist to have a good experience staying in a hogan.

Guest access
You will have access to the large open space within the homestead, including the outdoor cooking stove for cooking purposes.

Other things to note
Being a guest at our family homestead will give you glimpse of our daily life without running water, electricity or plumbing.
