I stayed with my wife for a week. Jan welcomed us with sparkling wine, cheese, beer, coffee and other necessary goods we need. The room is big enough for two, and of course, clean and neat. We really liked her room so that we invited our friends to have lunch together in her room.
The neighbor is safe and nice. All we need was in our close neighbor. European and Asian style grocery stores, nice restaurants and cafes etc.
Jan was always trying to help us. She gave us information to enjoy San Fransisco fully, and always asked us whether we need something to be helped.
All in all, we will definitely stay Jan's room if we have another opportunity to stay San Fransisco. Thank you Jan for your great hospitality!!
This is a very nice place to stay. It is nicely equipped with cooking utensils and basic supplies for a meal or two. Jan kindly left a bottle of wine for us. There were literally dozens of books on things to do and see in San Francisco as well as lots of good books to read, a TV with ROKU. Also a convenient washer-dryer to do the clothes before moving on. All in all it was everything she said it would be --plus the lovely garden setting in a pleasant neighborhood convenient to restaurants, shopping and public transportation really makes this a special place to stay.
First of all, what a great host. The communication was absolutely perfect before and during our stay. Before our arrival, Jan prepared a word document with all important information for our stay, our taxi ride from the airport and a parking ticket for our rental car. The flat is in the basement of the main house, cutely decorated, and the outside area is so beautiful and cozy. It can get quite dark in the flat as there's only little light from the outside, but we spent the days outside anyway :)
There's everything you need to prepare basic dishes in the kitchenette, and we were welcomed with a goodie bag.
The bed is comfortable (maybe not the biggest one) and the shower is great. Thanks Jan for a lovely week in that awesome city!
Hi, Franziska - It was a treat to host both of you! After you left, I discovered that two of the recessed ceiling lights had burnt out - that's why it seemed dark to you. I replaced them & now and now everything is bright and light again. I wish I'd known about it while you were here, so that I could have fixed it for you! Happy travels and warm regards, Jan (PS. The bed is a standard Double/Full size.)
Jan's home is perfect! It's a cozy 1 bedroom apartment that has everything you need. Not to mention the beautiful garden patio where we enjoyed eating breakfast & drinking coffee. It was an awesome location that really made us feel like we got an amazing San Fran experience. Jan is very kind & goes out of her way to make you feel welcomed! I would recommend this place to anyone.
It was like arriving home after a long trip. Her wellcome was also very intimate and genuine!.
Everything was in place including little bit of food with a bottle of champaign which gave us the first boost in the lovely Garden under warming afternoon sun.
Neighboorhood is exceptional, safe n sound which gives you a feeling that you are not in a big city. It is a privilage to have a chance to be in walking distance to the Golden Gate Park, the Haight Str. & the Beach Chalet. Arguello Grocery is just at the corner with good/fresh choice of snacks in case of emergency.
Garden Oasis is a peaceful n quite shelter after tiring explorations of SF for people who do not look for luxury around. Facility is simple but satisfactory.
Transportation by Uber or Lyft make it easier, cheaper and quicker to reach some other spots like Fillmore, Portrero Hill, etc. from this spot.
We arrived to find a nice bottle of champagne waiting for us and the apartment clean and ready stocked with coffee, tea, condiments, fresh towels, and some basic toiletries (To name a few). Jan has the place professionally cleaned between guests. She was easy to get ahold of but also careful to respect privacy.
The listing accurately represents the apartment and its surroundings. The neighborhood is fabulous! It’s a really short walk to Golden Gate Park and well connected with the Muni system. There is a small market close by to get basics and a Safeway about 10-15 min walk away. We also felt totally safe and it was nice to be in a neighborhood and not surrounded by a bunch of hotels. There is a private entrance to the apartment which is behind a locked door to the garden so we felt even more secure. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends!
Remember it is the city and you may here the neighbors kids playing outside and other usual noises. It was quiet at night though.
Jan is also open to feedback and suggestions and you can tell she wants to make sure you have a good experience.
About the Host, Jan
Hi. We're friendly folks who have lived in SF for more than 25 years, in this charming neighborhood near Golden Gate park, less than 3 miles from downtown San Francisco. We love walking, hiking and biking in the nearby parks and visiting the neighborhood museums and restaurants. I also teach English as a Second Language (certified by Cambridge University) and am pleased to give you tips for visitors from other countries (or private English lessons, at a discount!) We love to travel ourselves, and try to treat all guests as we like to be treated when away from home. We also relish the range of ethnic cuisines available within six blocks from home. We try to provide everything a guest would need - transit maps, guidebooks, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, upscale linens, and all the privacy that a guest prefers. We're available if you'd like, or will respect your private sanctuary if that's your preference. We hope you'll love living like a local in San Francisco as much as we do!
