You'll feel like you are staying at your grandma's cottage. This beautiful, waterfront setting is just right for travelers who prefer a peaceful, rural setting. A perfect retreat for artists, writers, romantics and outdoor adventurist. Also a great place to spend quiet time with your family.
A short drive from Hwy 101, you'll travel down peaceful back roads and a long wooded driveway where you'll be greeted by your sunny yellow cottage, stunning hilltop views of Oyster Bay and of course, our friendly Bernese Mountain Dog-Chance.
Situated on 4+ acres of forest and a large grassy lawn, you can kick back and relax or take off to enjoy the numerous activities that are within short driving distance from the cottage, including hiking and biking at our State and National parks, golfing, cultural activities, water sports, spas, casino, restaurants and wine tasting. In the evening, enjoy the privacy of your own patio and fire pit, while watching the sunset over the bay. If you're lucky, the sky will fill with stars and you'll be surrounded by the night time sounds of oyster harvesting and woodland creatures. Baby deer, raccoons, owls, ospreys and eagles are frequent visitor to our back yard. Depending on the time of year, you will more than likely experience a gentle rain or an occasional wind or snow storm. It's what we're known for here in the Pacific Northwest. Don't let this stop you from getting out to enjoy all the beauty of the area.
The cottage includes a second story apartment (above a detached garage) with 1 queen regular bed and one full futon bed, which would be comfortable for individual travelers, a couple or a small family. The first floor art studio has double doors overlooking the bay and is furnished with a table, sitting area, toaster, microwave, fire pit and small refrigerator. Although basic dishes, flatware and wine glasses are provide, the space is not a full kitchen. If you choose to prepare simple meals, I will wash your dishes. Since I am on a private well, local regulations prevent me from cooking for quests. Coffee, tea, cocoa, oatmeal and popcorn are always available.
The main house is on the property. We will respect your privacy but can be available to provide information and additional amenities to make your visit comfortable and memorable. Guests are always welcome to gather on the deck and engage in conversation with the host.
Books, portable DVD player and games available for your leisure time. Sorry. No TV at this time.
Perfect as a base camp for small family vacation, a romantic get-a-way for couples or a peaceful retreat for solo travelers, artists and writers.
Washington State sales tax and Mason County Hotel/Motel tax is included in the rental price.
Guest may use the lawn area, sit on the bank to watch the sunsets and stroll down the driveway for long walks along our country roads. Beach access is allowed only when accompanied by the host.
Interaction with Guests
Guest can have complete privacy or may engage in social conversation with the host. We are available on site most of the time and are happy to help guests connect with activities they might enjoy during their stay. Guests should not be afraid of a large dog. Host dog Chance is quite large and very social with everyone he meets. Chance is trained to pull a wagon and would be happy to take your children for a ride.
Our home is situated on a point overlooking Totten Inlet on Puget Sound. There are only 3 homes on the point. Only one other home is visible from our property. Our neighbors are great folks and welcome the idea of a guest cottage in our friendly little hilltop community.
Since this is a rural area with so much to do and see within an hour of the rental, a car would be most beneficial. There are also plenty of places to get around by bike, kayak or paddle board. Arrangements can be made for airport shuttles.
We will go over the house "quirks" and noises to expect when you arrive. The attic spaces in the bedroom and the garage basement are off limits to guest. Smoking or any type of open flame are not allowed inside the rental spaces. You may smoke outside. We ask that you respect the neighbor's property and privacy and use good judgment in quiet hours. You may have visitors during the day but we do not allow overnight quests who have not been registered in advance.
The grounds were gorgeous and semi-secluded. Great views of the bay and close to lots of great hikes. Linda was very nice and welcoming.
Linda was warm and welcoming upon our arrival. She was very helpful with logistics and had an abundance of ideas for things to do in the area. She made us feel right at home, provided a great introduction to the property with a bit of history as well. The property was more than we imagined and the art studio space was a bonus! She had all the little extras to make our stay quite comfortable! The natural setting on the water provided a great place for relaxing, reading and contemplative moments! We highly recommend The Yellow House! Thanks for a great visit to the NW! Joe and Pat
Our family loved staying at the yellow house on the bay. Linda was super warm and hospitable, making sure we had everything that we needed. Her attention to detail surpassed all of my expectations. (Nightcap sherry- Who else thinks of that?) she was even kind enough to hand draw a map pointing to a local seafood bar where we had a fantastic seafood dinner.
The house itself is exquisite and charming. It's nice and secluded from outside noise, and is the perfect place to kick back, read, and take in the wonderful scenery.
My only regret is not booking the place for longer... I hope you don't make the same mistake!
Thanks to our host, Linda, we had a quiet and romantic long weekend at the Yellow house. Linda was very welcoming and respected our privacy. The house exceeded both its description and our expectations with full of amenities. It has a great view of the canal. Great place to visit Lake Cushman and the Olympic National Park. If we ever go up to Washington, we will surely choose the Yellow House at the Bay.
Linda was very friendly and welcoming. She had the most stunning property and wonderful views. Her sense of taste in decor was outstanding. The whole studio was beautiful and and nicely equipped, the sad fact was we had so little time at the property. Both my son and I totally fell in love with her gorgeous dog Chance. A fabulous experience and one we would be eager to repeat. There were small personal gestures which were utterly charming, sherry before bedtime. Highly recommend this property.
We had a perfect experience with our host Linda and her beautiful home and grounds of Yellow House on the Bay. You can see Linda's artist's eye in the well-appointed, inviting decor. She is an incredibly friendly and accommodating host. Our only regret was that we had such a short stay, en route to Whidbey Island. We definitely would return. Our Newfoundland was glad to meet another big dog to play with, too.
The yellow house was very cute with stunning water view. The interior decoration, that was designed by Linda the host, has a heart warming effect. Linda was welcoming and so as her doggy Chance. Linda was informative and gave some some suggestions of restaurants. Chance was gentle and he is a super model for pictures. My two girlfriends and I had a wonderful relaxing trip at the yellow house.
My husband and I designed and built our home in 1992. Over the years, we have added many amenities including my art studio in 2002. Since moving in, we have raised 2 boys, 4 dogs and a cat. We wanted to make a home that was warm and comfortable for family and friends to share time and create memories. For the first time, we are making our home available to travelers seeking a unique and friendly experience in the Northwest.
I have been a practicing artist my entire life and am currently working in the medium of encaustics (painting with wax) I have exhibited my work in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Washington. The majority of my career has been dedicated to teaching and arts administration. Recently retired from the field of Parks, Arts and Recreation, I look forward to a more relaxed life with time to travel with my dog Chance, read, cook, kayak and make art. I am excited about my new adventure and hope to meet lots of interesting folks from around the country and the world.
I take great pride in maintaining a meticulous home and property. Once you experience the comfort, beauty and hospitality of Yellow House on the Bay, you will want to return again and again.
