The hostess was Erika... And she and her husband Nick were delightful- welcoming and communicative. We couldn't stay the second nite, and Erika went out of the way to help us cancel. The place itself is just a bungalo cottage- not fancy but fine. It could have been mildewy but wasn't. The cot was actually comfortable.- as was the bed. There were some no-see-ems at dusk that snuck thru a couple of holes in the screens- but once the sun went down it was fine. There is good wifi but no cell phone reception (anywhere near by- dead zone ). What is brilliant about the place is that it is on the back road to Kolekole beach... An immersion experience into a rain forest - letting out to a beautiful waterfall that flows into the ocean. Quite perfect. We went back to Hilo for dinner at a great Thai Restaurant on waterfront.
THERE IS NO ENTERTAINMENT ROOM. The pool table, dart boards and pole are non-existent. This place is very sparsely furnished as it is currently on the market. A rental manager came by to show the place while we were staying there.
The place is big, but feels empty. The rooms have a bit of a musty smell, and there are most definitely bugs and spiders. The location is nice, and the beds are comfy. The bathroom is fine.
The kitchen is lacking. Dish soap but no sponge. Oven but no mitt. Rusty fridge with ice maker that had something spilled on it and had to be cleaned to be usable. Only half the stove worked. We had to buy paper towels and salt. This place had no salt!
Also, turning on the oven stove fan shorts out the power and the whole place turns dark, so don't use that.
Overall, the place was a bit below average. It is a fine place to stay if you don't plan on hanging in much.
It was easy enough to find with the directions provided, even at night.
This place has the potential to be stunning. It's location (secluded and amongst a lush tropical plantation) is great. In terms of general feel and living area the house is fantastic - lots of space and a real old world feel to it. However, it was let down by a couple of crucial points which really impacted on our stay. 1. The kitchen is really poorly equipped - there was one usable breakfast bowl, one overly large pan, no toaster and no bottle opener (though plenty of wine glasses). This for a secluded location where doityourself dinner and breakfast is really the only viable option. It seems as if the kitchen has basically been cleared out and left with only the very bare essentials. 2. Far more annoyingly, whilst the beds are great in terms of their comfort (good mattress and large), the sheets on mine appeared to have only been turned rather than changed, as the outer layer (without pattern) smelt strongly of stale body odour whilst the inside (with a pattern matching the mattress cover) smelt fresh. This is pretty unacceptable for any accommodation, and is a really disappointing downer for somewhere with such great potential.
My stay was very nice. The house is very spacious and clean. It's just off the main road so it's easy to get to, yet it's secluded enough to provide a lot of privacy. It's a very nice place and I would definitely stay here again if I am back on the Big Island.
Overall the place was really nice. A great plantation home, with nice breeze, great views and ample space. The property was nice and very large.
Unfortunately the photos are a bit outdated as some things have changed and for the most part it was for the better, like the bathroom, which is an improvement from the one in the pictures. Also the linens, bed and towels were all fresh and clean.
But we missed the pool table and some of the other personal touches which make the place feel more at home. Despite this, it was a nice experience and once again, the amount of space was really nice to have.
Wonderful home in a beautiful peaceful location. House was very clean. Loved the fresh fruit from trees in the yard! Yum! Beds very comfortable....really enjoyed the sound of waves crashing from beach not too far away.....
We had mixed feelings about our experience. The location was wonderful to enjoy a more local, less touristy feel. The view over the ocean is gorgeous. The house is large with gorgeous wood floors, although very sparsely furnished. The kitchen is huge, but is in need of some serious maintenance and cleaning as is the rest of the house. The beds and bedding were very nice. Teresa was responsive to us when we asked about getting the grill and more towels and cleaning products for the kitchen. I can recommend staying here as long as the guest is prepared that they are getting a local experience, not a first class accommodation.
