My wife and I spent 4 great springtime weeks in New York City, a good part of which has to be credited to Madeline and Dave. They were very generous hosts, easy to reach, very quick in responding, uncomplicated and always ready for an extra service whenever we had some special wish. Both of them are architects and designed and built the house by themselves just a few years ago. They have their office on the ground floor and live upstairs from our apartment. So they were always around whenever you needed them.
The apartment was exactly as the pictures on the internet promised it – new, bright, clean, open, spacious. It extends over the whole first floor of the building and has all the amenities you needed (wifi, tv, airconditioning, washer/dryer plus a complete kitchen with dishwasher and an American size refrigerator/freezer). Two huge windows to the west (with a view of the downtown Newark skyline) and to the east (with a nice, sunny backyard balcony and a distant view of the airplanes taking off or landing). A well-thought-out floor plan made both of us feel comfortable day and night.
Even though you are close and very well connected to the city (a twenty minute cab ride from Newark International Airport and a five minute walk from Newark Penn Station with only a 20-25 minutes train ride from there right into Manhattan and trains running in short intervals all day and night long), the Portuguese/Brazilian neighborhood is safe and quiet (maybe except for some occasional noise from the bar around the corner at night). Coming back from the city time after time you really felt at home and could truly relax.
Thank you very much Madeline and Dave for this great opportunity - we would love to come back anytime!
If you wanna have a GREAT trip experience in NY or NJ, just rent this apartment. The place is awesome!! The hosts (Madeline, Dave and the little Parker) are really friendly and polite, helped us with our doubts since the very first contact. Just 15 minuts by train from NY, if you are arroving in Penn Station NJ, do not loose your time catching a cabin... the distance is really walkable to the apartment. The sorrounding area is safe and beautifil, spend one of your days to walk around Ironbound neighborhood, it´s a very charming place. I felt myself like home. P.s. If you need to know the Kid´s TV show schedule.... do not hesite to ask for Parker, he will be very helpful!!! Madeline, thanks a lot for all the hospitality =)
Madeline's apartment is amazing, clean, tidy, spacious with very modern looking design. I am very lucky to have stayed in this apartment for 8 nights. When we arrived the apartment, everything is well-prepared, bottle of wine, ice-cream, fruits, shampoos etc, everything you need! Dave and Madeline are so friendly, they give you the best advice for everything you want to know about NYC as they know everything. Although Newark sounds kind of far away from the city, but it is really twenty minutes train away. If I go to NYC again I will sure stay in this nice apartment!
This apartment was our home for a few weeks during the summer of 2012 and it was absolutely perfect.
First of all we felt very welcome right from the beginning. We got all the information we needed to know and everything was arranged just so smoothly. The apartment itself is just beautiful. Its big, convenient and the decoration is just so nice and calming. Its more than we could ever ask for which is very nice if its gonna be your home for a little while so it just made us very happy that we could stay here.
It contains everything you need and even more.
Its a 5 minute walk to the trainstation from which you can go anywhere you want. Trains to New York leave every few minutes and they take you there in less than 15 minutes. But its also only a 5 minute walk to the street where the Ironbound restaurants and shops are located so you can get whatever you need at any time.
We would say you réally have to consider staying at this apartment cause it will just blow your mind. And trust us, we're dutch people and we don't really exaggerate a lot so this is just what it is!
Our hosts were just such nice people, even though we didnt get to see them a lot, whenever we needed anything or had a question we could get in touch and they took care of everything.
So if you're up for a holiday in New York we'd say: give this one a try cause you won't regret it.
Great. Great. Great.
If you are visiting the NYC area, this is the perfect place to be. From the location, to the hosts (Dave, Madeline, and Parker), and the modern living experience, the loft on Bruen street is the place to stay.
Madeline and her family were the perfect host and their place was clean, cozy, and convenient for commuting to NYC. I highly recommend this location.
