About this listing
Nicknamed by some as the 'razor building' due to its three rooftop wind turbines, Strata is, at present, the tallest residential building in London.
Elephant & Castle is conveniently located for very easy access to Borough Market, Bermondsey Street, Maltby Street Market, the West End, South Bank, the City of London and Canary Wharf.
A 24 hour concierge ensures security for all residents and a television, wireless internet, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, towels and hairdryer are all provided.
Guests will be welcomed by myself (or very rarely, my long term housekeeper, Maria) to the apartment to ensure all is in order. I have lived in the neighbourhood for more than ten years and would be happy to share local knowledge and recommendations - please ask.
Elephant & Castle is one of the best connected destinations in London, offering easy access to the City, West End, East End, South Bank and popular suburbs in the south-west, such as Brixton and Clapham. Two underground lines, Bakerloo and Northern, as well as 28 bus routes, are all located less than five minutes' walk from the apartment.
Trains from Elephant & Castle overground train station offer connections to Herne Hill, Luton, Peckham, Wimbledon, Sevenoaks, St. Pancras, Streatham, Sutton and many more.
Where possible, I am happy to be flexible with check-in and check-out times. Please ask of you need to arrive earlier and I will do my best to accommodate.
I use Airbnb as I do not wish to be bound by many rules and conditions and I assume my guests do the same. Apart from a maximum of two guests, no pets or smoking, I do not have any house rules, just a polite reminder that this is my home too and a request that guests keep this in mind during their stay.
Very nice apartment in Southwark. We felt quite at home. The place is very close to the Elephant and Castle tube station, made it convenient to get around the city. The apartment has no air conditioning, which was fine during our stay because the weather was cool. But in warmer weather could be a bit warm... Overall, a great place with a nice view and good location. Charl was most accommodating, would certainly stay again.
Contacting Charl to book the room was easy. Charl is fast to respond and clearly lists his apartment accurately. The apartment was very clean, great view, and comfy bed. He even left us some food, which was very thoughtful. Accessing his key for the apartment was very easy. Charl was very accommodating to change his arrive and departure time to fit our needs. He was kind enough to leave us suggestions of places to visit. His apartment is in a wonderful location to explore London.
This flat is absolutely awesome, exactly as shown on the pictures. Situated in a very interesting new building it provides all the facilities you need for a short or even a longer stay including a stunning view. Charl is a very thoughtful host. He even provided everything for our breakfast. We also appreciated Charl’s flexibility regarding arrival and departure times. The location is perfectly situated to explore London’s southbank and all the major attractions in the city which are easily accessible by tube.
This was a beautiful flat in an awesome new building. Charl was incredibly accommodating, and went far out of his way to prepare the space for us. He even provided some groceries!
The one problem we had was how hot the flat got. Fortunately there was a fan that we ended up aiming directly at us to make sleeping tolerable. The design of the flat was problematic, in that there's a floor-to-ceiling narrow window-type opening that has a grate over it. It's your only source of ventilation, and didn't really let the cool air in from outside. A portable air conditioning unit would most likely fix the problem.
Aside from the temperature, the flat was really great. Location was awesome, building access was easy. Highly recommended.
food breakfast shopping Charl did before arrival, and easy to drop our luggage though the appartment was not ready yet.
As a first airbnb experience, Charl's studio didn't disappoint. He made us feel extremely welcome - he met us on arrival and showed us around and had even provided essential provisions - milk, orange juice, bagels, basically plenty to keep us going for the 3 days we were there. The studio itself is lovely. It does get pretty warm in the summer (we managed to coincide our visit with the hottest days of the year so far!) but there's a fan that helps to keep the place slightly more bearable. The views are fantastic as well - pretty much 180 degrees from the Shard to Canary Wharf. The location is great - unfortunately we didn't get time to explore the local area too much but Elephant & Castle tube station is around the corner so you're well connected to the rest of London.

About the Host, Charl
I am a 35 year old professional, living and working in London, where I have lived since 1997 after spending my childhood in South Africa. I return to Cape Town as often as I am able however my list of 'must see/return to destinations' is so long I am struggling to keep up.
I love discovering the city of London (it is hard to keep up - there are new destinations every week!) and other parts of the world too. I am always very interested to know why people visit London and what they most look forward to - apart from those visiting on business of course.
I consider myself to be honest, polite and considerate. I really do believe in treating others like I would like to be treated. I also have a very mild case of OCD ;-).
Please do ask if you'd like to know anything else about me - I would happily share...within reason.
