About this listing
Single room in a four-bedroom house with a beautiful view of Mount Kigali. Close to KIST, CHUK and the Serena Hotel and only a short walk to town. Fully-equipped, large, comfortable lounge, huge garden (with herbs!) and friendly housemates.
The room is very large with a king-sized bed, a desk with a lamp, lots of storage space, and great light in the mornings. This room is being sublet so some of my stuff is still in there but it's been stashed in the top of the closet and there are some boxes in one corner. But there's loads of space for you and my things won't get in your way.
The house has four rooms, two on either side of the house each with their own bathroom. There's a large lounge with a dining table plus a front porch that nobody ever uses and a back porch which is popular for the view. The kitchen is a good size with a couple of surfaces to prepare food and a small table. Each room has it's own desk and there are plenty of common spaces inside and outside the house.
I've got a huge garden growing all sorts of herbs and veggies plus avocado, banana, papaya, and guava trees that you're welcome to feast from.
The house fits four people very comfortably and occasionally five if a couple happens to be in one of the rooms... although I prefer four people and this is how it will usually be.
You have access to the entire house, both bathrooms, the garden, full kitchen, and a great backyard with views over to Mount Kigali.
Interaction with Guests
The current room available is actually a sublet of my room so I won't be around. My housemates are friendly though and I'm sure they'll make you feel at home!
The house is located just on the edge of Kiyovu in an area known as Gitega. It's just down the hill from the five star Serena Hotel which has free, fast, reliable wifi and a (very expensive but wonderful) gym.
Town is 20 minute walk or a 2 minute moto away for groceries, banks, restaurants, etc.
Nyamirambo is a 2 minute moto in the other direction and is Kigali's most lively neighbourhood with lots of bars and loads of character. It's my favourite part of town and great for fish dinners.
I'm located geographically in the southwest corner of the city so make sure you're not planning on spending your time on the complete other side of town in areas like Kibagabaga, Nyarutarama, Kagugu, Gacuriro, Kanombe, or Kicukiro. My place won't be great for those parts of town but is good for most others. Let me know where you need to be and I'll let you know if it's well-located.
Anyone who comes to town to work with KIST or CHUK will be a 10 minute walk away from each of those places.
My gate is a 30 second walk from a street that has motos, taxis and buses. I don't know the bus routes but there's a stop about 2 minutes from my door. No idea where it goes, though!
Other Things to Note
The housemates share a drinking water tower so if you want to go in on this, please make sure to ask them about contributing. It shouldn't cost much more than $5 a week. The housemates can give you the scoop on how it all works. Otherwise everything is included!
Just make yourself at home, treat the house as your own and your housemates as you'd want to be treated and everything will be great!
