The Space

It's an amazing property. It's like being in your own private national Park. It's called Joshua Tree Paradise. 100% solar powered vacation rental home, that is completely off the grid and has its own well.

Surrounded by thousands of acres of undeveloped land, you will find caves, boulders, wildlife, and miles of trails. Yet it's only 2 miles from the village of Joshua Tree and 3 miles from Joshua Tree National Park.

Experience the desert first hand without neighbors, yet enjoy an outdoor wood burning hot tub, fire pit, wood burning stove, media room, wifi, new modern furniture and all the amenities to make your stay comfortable.

Great for hikers, romantic getaways, family adventure, photographers, nature lovers, star gazers and rock climbers. There are a lot of things to discover on the property, including movie props. If you look closely, on some rocks you will see old Indian Petroglyphs.

It's been the sight of photo shoots for Calvin Klein, Paul and Joe and Brooks Brothers, in addition to commercial movie shoots. All photos on this web site were taken on the property.

IF YOU WANT A DESERT ADVENTURE... THIS IS IT. This one of a kind, exclusive property, is being offered to the public for the first time. Up until now, it has been used as a getaway for actors who request privacy, personal friends and our family.

Interaction with Guests

I answer questions by email or phone before guests arrive. Also I email them, and sometimes call to see how they're doing while they are there.

The Neighborhood

You are surrounded by thousands of acres of undeveloped land with trails, washes, summits, caves, BOULDERS, and all kind of wildlife. Around town you will find great food, live music, theater, galleries, Integratron, Giant Rock, and many other fun things. It's a cool community of artists, musicians, and all kinds of creative folk.

Getting around

You will need a car, and any kind of car. There is a 1/2 mile of dirt road to get to the house, but if you go slowly, any car can traverse it. The rest of the time, you're on your feet, hiking the many trails.

  • Had a great time at Matthew's place. Open, clean, easy to find and very relaxing spot! Everything you need to cook, star gaze, hike and more. We loved our time hear and would visit again! Thanks Matthew for the detailed info regarding your home and land.

  • I had a wonderful time at the house! My friends and I went on great hikes into Joshua Tree and the space was lovely.

  • We spent four nights in Matthew's amazing home in JT. It could not have been more perfect. We were a bit worried that our children (4 and 7) would get bored after a couple of days, but they are already asking when we can go back.
Highlights include: 1) the property (huge, silent, with star gazing beds scattered in random locations); 2) wood burning hot tub (used it each night to star gaze with our kids); 3) hiking and bouldering in JT National Park (if you have young kids, the whole junior ranger thing is lovely); and a very, very comfortable space.

I highly recommend this property to anyone who loves the outdoors, values peace and quiet and/or is interested in some amazing star shows.

  • Matthew's place in Joshua Tree was exactly what we were looking for. It offered seclusion, great location, and fun adventures. We spent the days hiking around the property and going into the park and the nights out on the bed frames outside under the stars by a camp fire. Matthew was very helpful and easy to get ahold of. I will definitely return to this place in the future!

Matt, Joshua Tree Paradise was one of the most amazing places my wife and I have ever been to. What an experience. We'll definitely be back and recommending the property to our friends. Thanks again and all the best.

  • We had a fantastic stay at Joshua Tree Paradise! The outdoor area is amazing; we loved sitting on the covered patio and using the fire pit in the evening. We also loved exploring the trails on the property, a few of which are lighted up with automatic torches at night. There are also cots all over the property on which you can bring out foam pads and sleeping bags and sleep out under the stars. The indoor area is very nice as well (with a great movie collection -- if only we'd had more time!), and the house is perfectly situated between the town of Joshua Tree and the entrance to the park. We hope to be back soon!

  • Just lovely! It was unseasonably cold when we stayed so we didn't get to sit outside much. We were toasty warm inside and slept really well. The kitchen was well equipped with lots of great utensils - the best equipped of any rental we've used. The fridge freezer has an ice machine. The house is nicely furnished and spacious.

It's off an unmade road and across on a wonderful track between the rocks. It's awesome to have your own private area with wonderful trails and boulders. You see houses along the valley - there are no near neighbours. We enjoyed the birds around the property too and the stars at night.

Matthew has done a great job with a helpful manual. It was easy to get the key. I was glad we arrived in daylight as the track might have been less easy after dark. However we had numbers for both Mathew and his housekeeper who would have guided us in if we'd needed it. It really was a home from home, and a wonderful place to experience Joshua Tree. This would get six stars if I could. to be able to walk out from the house into habitat as good as the park was great. The host was also very helpful and quick at getting back to us. . We'll definitely be back another time.

About
I have been living in Hollywood for many years, working in the film and photo industry. I purchased the first 2 1/2 acre parcel of land in Joshua Tree in 1992, because I instantly fell in love with it, and because it is so much like Joshua Tree National Park. As time went on, I purchased the land around me so I wouldn't have any neighbors. Now I have 100 private acres. I made many photos and films at the property with actors. Only recently have I decided to rent it to the public. All comments are welcome! If you love boulders, nature, the desert, photography, caves, BOULDERS and wildlife, you're going to love Joshua Tree Paradise. The rocks have a strangely powerful spiritual quality to them.
