Our neighbourhood is very quiet and very safe to walk, day or night. We're an easy walk to Heartland Centre which is Mississauga's largest retail area and one kilometer from the 401/Mavis exit. Main bus line runs near the home. There are 6-7 quality restaurants and 4-5 fast food places within easy walk. Most things will be within a 5-10 minute drive (groceries, liquor, clothes, movie theatre and exercise facility - LA FITNESS)
Sorry.. We have recently decided to not accept pets.. As much as all of us like animals it makes our own dog sad to share his home and we need to respect that.
Our neighbourhood is central to EVERYTHING! I do mean everything.. Shopping, Food, Entertainment, Services, Buses, Parks, Hwys, Airport, Theatres and we have 5 count them 5 Tim Horton's within a one minute drive.
We are very convenient to bus service. We are minutes if not seconds from Hwy 401 and 10 minutes from Toronto airport.
Other Things to Note
Please check with us before booking. We will help you decide if our place is convenient to where you need to go. We want you happy and a 45 minute daily drive won't help you. Having said that we have had two guests say we are worth the extra drive.
Be polite, trustworthy, clean and fun. Please no smoking. No overnight visitors but day guests can be accommodated with prior arrangement. We are very nice and expect very nice in return.
This was my very first airbnb experience, and what an experience it was. Once I saw this listing, I knew it was going to be perfect. And it was. As soon as I stepped into the house, I felt an air of welcome and warmth. I was greeted with smiles from the entire family, and instantly felt at home. Every day, it was a pleasure speaking with both Curt and Sharen, as well as with their daughter, and their son whenever he made it home for the weekends. Their dog is also wonderful to be around, being calm, yet comforting whenever the mood strikes.
I have a kitten, and there were days when I felt he loved them more than me (lol). Anytime I needed something, whether it be a ride or even just someone to talk to, they were right there. Always willing to do what they could to make sure I was alright.
The Skenes are truly a family that will welcome you into their home, and make you feel like one of the family. I loved every minute of my experience with them.
If I had to do it all again, I would do the same thing in a heartbeat.
Booking my stay in Curt and Sharen's home was one of the best decisions I have ever made. What began as me simply needing a room to crash in for a while, turned into so much more. The house was great, it was big, ideally located, super entertaining (the basement is a guy's dream) and always bustling with energy! Curt, Sharen, their kids Natalie and Jonathan and their Timbit eating dog Max took me in as a part of their family almost instantly. We shared many dinners, trips to the ice cream shop, a birthday reunion of past house guests, and countless heart to heart conversations.
Curt, your sound advice and quick whit made ever conversation we had both informative and hilariously entertaining. I will miss our casual talks. Sharen you are an amazing cook and one of the most kind hearted people I have ever met. Natalie you're such a special kid.. If I ever have a daughter someday, I could only wish she were half the woman you are. John, it's unfortunate that we did not get to hang out much, as you were in residence. You could have taught me how to play the drums and I could have keep your folks up all night ;) Max, bow-wow-wow... Bow-wow... (Just said I'll miss trying to get you back into the house.. You stubborn dog you). To the Skene's you are a perfect family, humble and kind, and your love for each other and every person that walks through your from doors is evident.
This lengthy wall of wonderful comments from happy guests like me, do not give justice to your family's superb hospitality. As an Airbnb host myself, I have gained so much from this experience. And as a human being I have grown exponentially over the last month! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
For a newcomer to Canada, the mind is full of several unanswered questions…. Will I be lucky in my job search? How long will it take to land work? There are also the immediate needs to be addressed and to top that list is where do I stay? At the end of the day, one always longs for a peaceful and comfortable place to unwind. This matter becomes a little more daunting especially when one has a small network.
I came across the Skene’s rental opportunity while searching for short-term rentals and it is one of the best things that happened to me in this beautiful country. One the first day I walked in, Curt said “you are family now”. That was echoed in Sharen’s words and actions as well. Between the two of them, whether it was offering to take me across to the supermarket to help with groceries, drive me over to meet someone or for an interview, they were always there. Curt was also an inspiration for me in my job search. They often invited me to join them for a home cooked meal and even took me along for a family get-together.
The house has a dedicated play area in case you are feeling bored. Curt often joked and said I probably took up the place to play pool. It’s a different thing that couple of months later, I was beating him at his own game (ha, ha, wink!). I also had a great companion in Max, their dog.
It’s wonderful that they still keep in touch with the folks who shared their property; I got to meet the ones in Toronto over Christmas for a get-together. It was so much fun that we carried on the party at their place with karaoke into the wee hours of the morning. I have rented in the past and if I had to recommend a ‘home’ in Canada, I would recommend the Skene’s.
I just had an awesome time staying with the Skenes.
I never had the feeling that I am their customer - I felt more like that I am in a way part of their family. They were very anxious to make my stay as pleasant as possible.
I cannot say a single bad word about my stay, wether it was going to the gym with their son, having lunch with the family or watching a series with them.
I just can recommend everybody to stay with the Skenes, if they visit Mississauga or the GTA.
Thanks for a good time.
My experience with the Skenes was shorter than anticipated as my plans changed. However, they proved to be much more than merely a place to stay.
Their warm, inviting attitudes and cosy accommodations were much appreciated. There were so many little gestures which helped me feel comfortable and welcomed: freshly baked goodies for breakfast, giving my husband a ride to the airport, as well as many lovely conversations. Their house is spacious and the Skenes make the extra effort to ensure your needs are met.
Please do not hesitate to book an accommodation here, you truly won't be disappointed.
John the Dad picked me up from the airport. After I took a tour of their home and met the lovely Mom, daughter and son, he drove his son and I to Walmart to buy food to cook for dinner. What's crazy is he suggested that his son and I should prepare dinner. I told him that I don't eat much meat but he was cool with that only to suggest that I cook him chicken so that he could have more meat choice. So for dinner we cooked grilled boiled shrimp, chicken breast, corn on the cob, broccoli, and brown rice.
After dinner they took me on a tour of downtown Toronto. Place is just like New York city only a little smaller. I visited the famous CN Tower which is the second tallest free standing tower in the world. We then went to visit where the Toronto Blue Jays play..Lake Ontario and birthday desert at Wayne Gretzky's restaurant.
From the dinner conversations to having them go out of their way to meet all of my needs..my stay was completely awesome! Ten Thumbs up! Looking forward to visiting my family away from family again in the near future!
The Skene family were excellent hosts.. Both John and Sharon went above and beyond the call of duty to make me feel at home...
They were very accommodating from the beginning of my correspondence with them... I was having trouble booking the room initially but they were very patient and kind enough to have kept the room available for me. (Which was on the day of my arrival once everything was sorted out!)
As well as that John went out of his way to pick me up from a GO station near by which he didn't have to do..
Their location is perfect as it is so near to the airport and is within walking distance of many different shops and restaurants... Anything you need could be found near by...
I'd also say the airport drop off is definitely an added bonus of staying at the Skene's..
Thank you for having me..

Easy-going family, friendly, funny, helpful and considerate. Both are business professionals who work from home. Two older kids. All very sociable people with a good sense of humour. Enjoy having guests and being great hosts.
We enjoy chatting with guests, sharing life stories and by all means if we can help you out we will want to.
