Interaction with Guests
I enjoy interacting with guests and I respect people's privacy. This home has a variety of room options available and as such, operates much like a traditional bed and breakfast with shared common spaces. There may be several guests at one time, providing an opportunity to meet a variety of people. The home is quite large with many beautiful spaces for all to enjoy on the main floor. Private bedrooms with either shared or private bath (master suite) are located on the 2nd floor. I ask that guests be respectful of each other at Dearing Mansion. Because of the historic nature of the home and the shared aspect, it is well suited for adults (older children may be considered).
The neighborhood is friendly and safe. There are beautiful parks and great trails nearby for walking and bicycling. Great coffee shops and bakeries are within walking or driving distance along with antique shops and other shopping 5-10 minutes away by car. Historic Summit Avenue as well as Grand Avenue, known for shopping, fine restaurants and eateries, are just 5 minutes by car. I am happy to provide restaurant and entertainment recommendations. Also close to Xcel Energy Center, Fitzgerald Theatre, local colleges and universities including: Macalester, St. Thomas, St. Kates. Come visit and enjoy. And like many of our guests, come back again!
City bus a block away. Easy driving distance to downtown Saint Paul and other local destinations. Airport just 10 minutes away.
Please come visit this extraordinary home. Shared kitchen available as well as the many beautiful, restored rooms. Sauna in basement.
Scott was a wonderful host. He was very responsive, introduced his place, and took time to check in throughout my stay.
The house was exactly as described. It has tremendous character, thanks to Scott's hard work and attention to detail. Make sure you enjoy a meal or drink on the porch overlooking the city!
Wow! What a great stay in St. Paul! The Dearing Mansion is truly that - a mansion that has been well-preserved and maintained. The room was just as described and much more than we had anticipated - from the decor to the comfortable bed, we were really impressed with our stay.
Scott was incredibly welcoming and offered coffee, tea, and breakfast in the morning. There was another couple staying in the room next door, but the rooms are very quiet and we did not hear anything through the walls.
I would highly recommend this place - even to friends who live in the area just for the experience. For the price, you can't beat it.
This is the third time we have stayed at the Dearing Mansion and Scott is always a casual, great host. We love sitting on the back patio for breakfast or drinks in the evening and absorbing the great architecture of this beautiful home.
I was unfortunately delayed in my arrival to St. Paul, but Scott greeted me personally upon my arrival close to midnight. The room was very comfortable and the description on the site is accurate, with the sparkling clean bathroom just across the hall. In the morning, Scott offered me and the other guest coffee in the kitchen and spent some time helping me plan my tour of the city. I highly recommend Scott's house!
Great place to stay in Saint Paul. We stayed in the East Room, which was comfortable; best features though were all the common spaces downstairs with all the turn of the century architectural influences. Scott is a great host. No formal/served breakfast but he gives you full access to the kitchen, refrigerator, coffee he provides, etc (which I kind of preferred anyway, over a sit down meal). Would definitely stay here again; would be ideal for a larger group to rent the entire house too.
Wow Scotts house is incredible. I've stayed at many Airbnbs in the past but this one takes the cake. Its a restored historic house full of cool furniture, gorgeous views of downtown St Paul from the backyard, and an amazing atmosphere.
In many ways Scotts house is an experience in and of itself. As for Scott himself, he's an extremely pleasant host and was attentive throughout.

About the Host, Scott
I am a residential remodeling contractor specializing in older homes. I live in this home part time with my 19 year old son until late August. My 21 year old other son is back from college for the summer also living with me part time. You may or may not see them.
I love sharing my historic home with guests either during gala events or for a cup of coffee or tea in the kitchen or living room in front of a fire.
The house is truly a treasure. It is one of the most unique homes in St. Paul. The back deck has wonderful views of St. Paul which is a 5 minute drive from Downtown St. Paul. In my spare time I love to travel, sea kayak, and lindyhop swing dance. I'm always game for a canoe trip, a great single malt scotch, a Broadway show, a home improvement project around the house involving hanging any kind of art or a good conversation. As a guest you will be welcomed, given the tour and assisted in any way I can.
Photos of bedroom coming soon.
