The Space

Welcome to Washington DC! We hope you will choose to stay with us during your time here. Brookland is an adorable neighborhood and soon to be the art center of DC. It's safe and quiet to give you a nice respite but you can also almost anywhere downtown in less than 30 minutes on public transportation. Union station is only 3 stops (6 minutes) or 20 minutes from our door.

My husband and I are young professionals who just bought our first home and love visitors. We have a beautiful backyard you are welcome to read in or join us for a bonfire, we also have a porch swing in the front to enjoy.

We live on a quiet street, easily accessible from the metro (Brookland-CUA on the Red Line) or bus (G8), even better by car (free unlimited street parking).

You can be at the White House and access almost everywhere else downtown in 30 minutes from our door with no transfers for the bus fee (only $1.60).

The Brookland metro is just over 1 mile away (you can walk-20 minutes or take the bus-6 minutes). G8 Bus stop is on our block (2 minute walk). The bus will also take you to Farragut Square, Metro Center, and Rhode Island shopping center. It comes every 20 minutes on weekdays and 30 on weekends.

We are also renting our separate entrance basement apartment so feel free to check out that listing, it is a great option for people who want to stay longer than 1 week.

Also close to trails, National Arboretum (2 miles), freeways, Catholic University (1 mile), Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (1.5 miles), Maryland University (20 minute drive), Costco (2 miles), grocery (Yes! Organic Market-1 mile), Restaurants (Menomale Pizza), and soon to be completed Monroe Street Market (Jan 2014).

We are 3 stops from Union station (6 min on metro), 6 stops from Metro center (12 min on metro-the White House stop), 35 min drive from BWI, 30 minute metro from Regan Airport, 50 minute drive from Dulles.

High speed internet (50 mbps), queen size bed with a temperpedic mattress, metro cards you can borrow, washer and drier, and guide books. Also a simple but hearty breakfast to get you going on your day of sightseeing.

After 2 guests, for each additional person, it will cost $10 each.

We look forward to meeting you!

Guest Access

We have a refrigerator you can use if you need to keep anything cold, if you are here for longer than a few days, you are welcome to cook, and can watch a movie with us in our movie room.

Interaction with Guests

We will usually see you at check in and breakfast and love to get to know our guests a bit. I'm happy to help brainstorm the best itinerary for the day.

The Neighborhood

Our neighborhood is quaint and calm, it's beautiful and full of very friendly people. My neighbors call Brookland DC's "best kept secret." Ther eis a lot of infrastructure coming in so at the metro there will be a lot of retail opening in Jan, but there is some great pizza at menomale, there is a yes! organic super market and some pretty parks.

Getting around

You can walk to the metro in 20 minutes or take a bus to the metro which picks up right around our corner and takes 6 minutes. The bus also stops in metro center downtown if you feel like a cheaper alternative to the metro and door to door in one easy trip.

  • Great overnight stay with Kristen & Will in Washington, D.C.

Kristen promptly replied to my inquiry and passed along a helpful email with directions to the property, information on places to see and things to do, and included contact information.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming home with friendly hosts!

I only wish I had more time to stay.

  • My husband and I stayed at Kristen's for four nights. We were only there in the mornings and evenings but Kristen kept the place clean and accessible. She also provided breakfast and was accommodating to our needs. We are happy we stayed there instead of paying twice the price for a hotel.

  • we stayed in Kristen apt for 2 nights. it's my 3' experience with airbnb, and i can finally say that this is a place i'd love to stay again.
Kristen was not at the apt during our stay, and she left a house keeper to help us. she was very busy the day we arrived so we had problems to get inside even when we said the hour we'll arrive there. the breakfast didn't include any bread for the first 2 mornings, any butter, no sugar for coffee and expired cheese and milk in the fridge. we arrived home at 23:30 the first day, after we knew the house keeper will get back at home around 19:00, and she still didn't change our room sheets.
more then that, we told her that we got a friend that needs to leave a package for us, and when he arrived there she just told him that we left already, and didn't took from him the package, even she knew it's for us.
the bathroom was very dirty- the sink, the floor, full of hair everywhere... we even didn't have soap and towel to wash our hands (!!!!)
we really love the apt, the room is very big, the bed is very comfortable and the neighbourhood is very quiet and safe. (even that a walk to the subway take 25 min, and the bus pass every 30 min, and it's really far from everything without a car- no restaurants/ supermarket by walk )
with all the positive things that this apt can offer, we remain really upset with the way we've been treated, for the amount of money that we could pay in the centre for a 3 stars hotel and we really hope Kristen can put someone more adapted to take care of her house and guests.
i still recommend this apt for guests who like to walk a lot , guests who got a car or guests that like to stay in a far and quiet apt.

    Response from Kristen:

    Niro,

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience at our place while we were gone. We left our place to a house sitter while we were cycling across America and will never do that again. I would have happily paid for you to stay somewhere else if I knew it was managed so poorly. I'm very sorry. The place is back in it's normal condition now and I will be here to manage from here on out.

  • Wir hatten eine wunderschöne Woche in einem super Zimmer. Leider waren unsere Gastgeber nicht da. Stattdessen waren zwei sehr nette Housesitter anwesend. Alles prima!

  • We'd stayed at Kirsten's house for a one week. Unfortunately she wasn't there during this time. After we had arrived, we were greeted by a very charming young house sitter, who shared a house with us. The only one issue was, he didn't clean up the house after other visitors. There were dust bunnies in our room and on the stairs. The bathroom was full of hairs and dirt. Even toilet paper wasn't there. We didn't want to complain to continuing a nice atmosphere during our stay so we clean up a bit. For breakfast there was only 2 kinds of cereals but no milk for a half of the week. Fortunately we had a car and was able to eat breakfast everywhere.
The house is in a very quiet area so you can enjoy the silence. I loved the furniture and nice house decoration. There is absolutely no problem to play tennis for free and without waiting around a corner. We could use metro cards as well, thank you Kristen.
Related on other reviews we will definitely stay again at Kirsten's place, if she is at home and not on Vacation.

About
Hi my name is Kristen. My husband and I are here in DC working. We love to travel. I work in the NGO sector and am a yoga instructor. I also enjoy movies, cooking, and reading. When we travel on Airbnb, we like a quiet, clean, safe place that gives us a glimpse of what it would be like to live in a city we are traveling to. We hope we provide this for you. My husband and I really enjoy AirBnB guests. It's a great way to make new friends. We look forward to meeting you!
