About this listing
Free Parking, 2 Capital Bike Share passes, quiet neighborhood & easy access to downtown. 30 minutes to the White House 3 different ways (metro, bike, bus). 1 mile to Brookland-CUA metro, around the corner from G8 bus. Private room and bath.
Welcome to Washington DC! We hope you will choose to stay with us during your time here. Brookland is an adorable neighborhood and soon to be the art center of DC. It's safe and quiet to give you a nice respite but you can also almost anywhere downtown in 30 minutes on public transportation. Union station is only 3 stops (6 minutes) or 20 minutes from our door (via bus/train).
My husband and I are young professionals who just bought our first home and love visitors. We have a beautiful backyard you are welcome to read in or join us for a bonfire, we also have a porch swing in the front to enjoy.
The room has a queen sized bed and there is space for a queen sized air mattress for extra people. You will also have a full bathroom with complimentary shampoo, body wash, and blowdryer. We also provide a simple breakfast: oatmeal, bananas, cereal, yogurt, tea/coffee, hard boiled eggs, toast.
We live on a quiet street, easily accessible from the metro (Brookland-CUA on the Red Line) or bus (G8), even better by car (free unlimited street parking).
You can be at the White House and access almost everywhere else downtown in 30 minutes from our door with no transfers for the bus fee (only $1.60). If there is traffic, the bus will take longer, but 35 min is the quickest you will arrive.
The Brookland metro is just over 1 mile away (you can walk-20 minutes or take the bus-6 minutes). G8 Bus stop is on our block (2 minute walk). The bus will also take you to Farragut Square, Metro Center, and Rhode Island shopping center. It comes every 20 minutes on weekdays and 30 on weekends. Check the next bus ap and that is very accurate on bus times.
We are also renting our separate entrance basement apartment so feel free to check out that listing, it is a great option for people who want to stay longer than 1 week.
Also close to trails, National Arboretum (2 miles), freeways, Catholic University (1 mile), Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (1.5 miles), Maryland University (20 minute drive), Costco (2 miles), grocery (Yes! Organic Market-1 mile), Restaurants (Menomale Pizza, Busboys and Poets). The metro has a summer saturday farmers market, a starbucks cafe, barnes and noble, potbelly's sandwiches, and &pizza.
We are 3 stops from Union station (6 min on metro), 6 stops from Metro center (12 min on metro-the White House stop), 35 min drive from BWI, 30 minute metro from Regan Airport, 50 minute drive from Dulles.
High speed internet (50 mbps), queen size bed with a temperpedic mattress, metro cards you can borrow, washer and drier (ask me and I'll schedule time with the basement), and guide books. Also a simple but hearty breakfast to get you going on your day of sightseeing.
After 2 guests, for each additional person it will cost $7 each.
We look forward to meeting you!
We have a refrigerator you can use if you need to keep anything cold, if you are here for longer than a few days, you are welcome to cook, and can watch a movie with us in our movie room.
Interaction with Guests
We will usually see you at check in and breakfast and love to get to know our guests a bit. I'm happy to help brainstorm the best itinerary for the day.
Our neighborhood is quaint and calm, it's beautiful and full of very friendly people. My neighbors call Brookland DC's "best kept secret." There is a lot of infrastructure coming in so at the metro there will be a lot of retail opening. We have a small grocer store 10 minutes away called Good Food Market on Rhode Island Avenue. There is also a Rita's custard and ice place that is about a 10 minute walk. There is a yes! organic super market close to the metro and some pretty parks.
You can walk to the metro in 20 minutes or take a bus to the metro which picks up right around our corner and takes 6 minutes. The bus also stops in metro center (whitehouse/mall) downtown if you feel like a cheaper alternative to the metro and door to door in one easy trip.
Other Things to Note
If there are more than 2 people, I can potentially prepare the room next door. It's small but has a full sized bed. That room is sometimes saved for family.
No smoking indoors. Please give us ample warning on timing of arrival so we can coordinate. Check in is generally at 2pm or later and check out by 10am. I can be flexible based on if there are other guests coming or not, but those are the usual times! Thanks.
Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to meet Kristen and her husband in person but they went all out to give you tips and suggestions, they even offered us the second room for our son. I will definitely recommend staying here.
My parents were flying in from India and this was the first place they were going to stay at. Kristen was flexible about my check-in time (I arrived earlier) and also accommodating about our luggage. The room was well-made and welcoming :) We met her husband briefly during dinner and he was very gracious and friendly. Their kitchen was stocked nicely with breakfast supplies, so we could have toast, fruits and coffee/tea in the morning. Their home was very clean and in a great neighborhood. I would definitely recommend their listing!
Kristan and Will were good hosts. In a rain storm, late, Will picked us up at the Metro station after a looong day of travel. We were schedualed for the basement with kitchen ect. but were placed in the main house on top floor with shared kitchen with hosts. Breakfast was set out for the next morning including organic fare. A bottle of water and chocolate were on our beds. I brewed my coffee and use their 1% organic milk. Kristan and Will have ridden bicycles across the US.
Walk to Metro was uphill ( both ways) about 20 minutes. The G8 bus was about 200 feet from the house which ran on time and often.,
The neighborhood was pleasant and friendly. Most of the time everyone we met greeted us.
I would recommend this to friend and stay with them again.
We stayed at Kristen's for 2 nights and she was very welcoming. She left us an itinerary with suggested places to go which was very helpful. The room was clean and big enough to accommodate 3 people. Very close to the bus stop and easy to get to union station. Overall very happy with our stay here!
We had a great stay. The description was accurate and Kristen and her home were nothing but welcoming and comfortable!
Très belle maison, très bon quartier, tout est à proximité, parking gratuit. Nous avons passé un agréable séjour chez Kristen.

About the Host, Kristen
Hi my name is Kristen. My husband and I are here in DC working. We love to travel. I work generally from home for a non profit I co-founded called Musana Jewelry. I also am a yoga instructor. I also enjoy movies, cooking, and reading.
When we travel on Airbnb, we like a quiet, clean, safe place that gives us a glimpse of what it would be like to live in a city we are traveling to. We hope we provide this for you.
My husband and I really enjoy AirBnB guests. It's a great way to make new friends. We look forward to meeting you!
