The Space

We're located in San Francisco's Glen Park neighborhood, just a stone's throw from a BART subway station, and minutes from Freeways 280 and 101.

MAISON SWISS is a bright, modern and beautifully decorated private flat, with 2-bedrooms, 1-bath/ shower. The flat comfortably sleeps 4 persons, with a queen-sized bed in the master bedroom, and double in the other. And because nights can get chilly here in SF, we have down comforters to keep you cozy- warm.

The fully equipped kitchen has all new appliances: Bosch range, fridge, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, dishwasher— everything you’ll need to prepare a whole meal or just make toast and coffee for breakfast.

The living-room is a cozy place to read, watch TV, or just relax. You'll love sitting on the window seat with a cup of coffee and a book— it's like being up in the tree tops.

There's WiFi, cable-TV. Other amenities include hairdryer, sawing kit, electric iron, and twin air bed.

BABY FRIENDLY: Also available is a Pac 'n Play baby cot, baby gate and stuff to baby-proof the apartment. We love our baby guests!

LOCATION/LOCATION/LOCATION: Maison Swiss is situated in one of the most convenient spots for getting to any of the city sites, and it's the best and fastest gateway to the Peninsula. If you're commuting down to Silicon Valley, it's one of the best locations to be, which is why so many people who work for tech companies like Apple, Oracle and Genentech choose to live here in Glen Park. We’re just off Freeways 280 and 101, and far enough South to avoid a lot of the rush hour traffic..

Oh yeah, and there's plenty of free street parking.

But you don't really need a car if your going to be touring the City. Glen Park subway station is just a few minutes walk from the flat. On BART it's a 12 minute ride downtown to the Convention Center, the museums, Union Square, the Ferry Terminal and shopping! It’s a direct, 20-minute BART ride to or from San Francisco International Airport. It's 45 minutes to Berkeley in the East Bay.

At the BART station, there's also a MUNI stop (The "J Church") which will take you to neighborhoods like Noe Valley and The Castro.

Also at the BART station, you can catch the #44 Bus that that delivers you directly into Golden Gate Park in under 20 minutes. The 44 stops right in front of the California Academy of Sciences, the de Young Art Museum, and the Japanese Tea Garden. Now how convenient is that?

The flat is well stocked with Bello's ground coffee, and an assortment of teas. Typically, there's toast and bagels provided for breakfast. When you book the flat, let me know if there's anything special you want me to get, like soy milk, etc.

GLEN PARK is really like a charming little village in the very center of the city. There are a variety of really good restaurants, from our authentic French bistro, Le P'tit Laurent, American fare at Chenery Park, Gialina Pizzeria, La Corneta Taqueria, Eco Sushi, and Osha Thai restaurant.

For breakfast, try Destination Bakery for fresh brioche, Tyger's Coffee Shop, or my favorite, Higher Grounds, where they serve amazing crepes.

The village has a great independent bookstore, the Bird & Beckett, and there’s live jazz on Friday and Sunday nights.

There’s a terrific gourmet supermarket, Canyon Market (see photos). Finally, the Village has its very own Farmer's Market on Sundays, selling local produce from farms all over the Bay Area. Yummmm!

GLEN CANYON PARK: Just one block from the flat is Glen Canyon Park. Unlike any other park in the City, it is situated in a rustic canyon, with 70 acres of bucolic, walking trails along Islais Creek, or more challenging hikes up to the top of the Canyon. Folks come from all over the City for the birding, nature walks, and even rock-climbing.

Glen Canyon Park has a brand new children's playground, and tennis courts. There is also a recreation center with indoor basketball courts.

  • Stephen was a very nice host--available when needed but letting us have our own space. The apartment was just right--comfortable and well kept, with a full size kitchen. Neighborhood has an urban feel and is convenient to downtown SF and to the freeways heading south, but it is also very quiet and safe.

  • Overall this was a very good place to stay: the apartment lovely with artful furnishings, comfortable and clean. Interesting books (incl. local interest), comfortable beds (nice comforters), excellent shower and everything we needed in a kitchen. Loved the slanted street the house was on.

The neighborhood had all the charm and flavor advertised: a walkable village, with interesting shops, a pleasing market, very good French restaurant--a real slice of San Francisco convenient to other neighborhoods as well as to points north and south of the city. Nearby Glen Canyon Park is a beautiful wooded park with trails for hiking, meeting friendly locals, a wonderful resource.

We found Steve, the homeowner who lives downstairs, most helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive; we fell naturally into interesting conversations with him. He was a concerned host and quite generous supplying us throughout with delicious coffee and fresh breads from an excellent nearby bakery.

There were two issues that came up for us, which we feel obliged to mention to (admittedly over-) sensitive travelers like us: First were sounds (phone conversations, radio playing) that carried from Steve's apartment up to ours. The TV downstairs woke Tom up the first night, though Steve kindly responded to our request to turn it down. But even with the radio/TV turned down, we were able to hear background noises upstairs in the evenings, reminding us that we were living in close quarters.

Second, the smell of cigarette smoke. Steve seemed to make an effort to smoke outside in his backyard, which was laudable, but nevertheless the faint smell of cigarette smoke would waft up to our place. This was not a strong smell of smoke, just detectable by us who aren't used to smokers around, particularly unexpected to find in San Francisco.

Other than these issues perhaps of concern only to us, we very much enjoyed our stay here and recommend it to others.

  • Wonderful host and lovely apartment. Has all the amenities you need and is in a great location. Near local transportation. Amazing Japanese restaurant in 10 min walk. It was so good, we went twice in 2 days! Would definitely recommend this property to future travelers!

  • The Maison Swiss was everything I expected and more. It's so great to have a kitchen and free parking in San Francisco! My husband and I spent a lot of time just relaxing at the house or going for walks to Glen Park and through the neighborhood. The neighborhood is quaint and not one I was familiar with, but it was close to everything and very quiet.

Stephen was very sweet and brought us Acme bread one morning. The house is very well equipped with everything you need. We had a great time! Thanks Stephen!

  • I stayed here with my brother and Stephen's apartment is a perfect base for exploring the city. The apartment is beautiful, it is very tastefully decorated and relaxing to come home to a peaceful neighbourhood. The beds are very comfortable and both bedrooms spacious, the bathroom had a great shower/bath and the kitchen everything we needed to cook and make ourselves at home.

Stephen is extremely hospitable, very quick to get back to me on the original enquiry (it was a very late notice booking), he gave us some great tips for exploring the city and was very thoughtful - the perfect neighbour/host!

Glen Park has a really good feel, a great crepe restaurant (we ate there twice!) and market store where we bought all our supplies. I've been to San Francisco twice before but this stay was the best because I got to see a different side of the city - getting the BART into town in 10 minutes with all the benefits of the neighbourhood of Glen Park really made the location much better than anywhere I've stayed downtown.

I fully recommend staying here and I hope I can return to SF and stay here again!

  • We were warmly welcomed by Steve into his charming upstairs flat. He even had fresh flowers for us from his backyard garden! The area was an incredibly convenient spot from which to access transit systems and explore San Francisco. Day to day items & an abundance of lovely local eateries were worth taking advantage of as well as a nice park practically outside his door. We'll be back!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maison Swiss. Located near to the Glen Park Village, Bart and the Glen Park Canyon was wonderful. The apt was clean with all the amenities: wifi, TV full kitchen. Stephen was a gracious & very helpful host. I had left a bag in the taxi and he went to great lengths to try to find it for me.
I would recommend a stay at Maison Swiss highly!

  • Stephen is a wonderful host. If you are even considering staying here, stop thinking about it and book your stay.

Stephen went out of his way to provide anything that we needed. He also had excellent recommendations for restaurants and activities in the area.

Thank you for a great stay and good conversation.

I'm a recovering New Yorker who's enjoying his retirement here in beautiful SF. In my lifetime, I've live in many cities around the world: I can honestly say San Francisco is the greatest of all of them. One of my great pleasures in becoming a Airbnb host is helping people discover my City By The Bay, ocean and Silicon Valley. Stephen
