Second floor guest suite with private in-suite bath and full use of first floor kitchen. One block to "Green Line" light rail train for easy access to Airport, major athletic venues, U of M and both down towns. Free off-street parking. Hosts live next door for quick and easy response.

The space
The secure and private 3-room suite is up the stairs on the second floor of our personal fiber arts studio. A full-sized and well equipped separate kitchen for your use is on the first floor. Your hosts, Tom and Steve, live next door but may often be found working in the studio spaces when they are not enjoying other activities in their retirement. We have no other guest suites or rooms to rent in Bobbin House so much of the time you will have the house to yourself. The Westgate Green Line Light Rail train station is just around the corner.

The comfortable ambiance and whimsical decor are intended to put you in the mood for fun and relaxed creativity.

We require a minimum three-night stay. For future bookings currently not available on our calendar, or an open two-night block of dates, please send us an inquiry regarding rates and availability.

Bobbin House is WIFI enabled with high speed fiber-optic service. For maximum comfort, guests control the dedicated heating and air conditioning systems for the suite. In addition, the sitting room and bedroom have ceiling fans. Built-in night-lights will help you find your way to the bathroom in the night!

The private bedroom has a King size "Sleep Number" bed with memory foam topper which allows the firmness of each side of the mattress to be individually adjusted to each person's preference. Very comfortable!

The bedroom also has 2 closets, 2 dressers, 2 bedside tables and 2 reading lamps... so no fighting over who gets to put their stuff where! Many alternate bed pillows from soft to firm and extra blankets are in the closets. Pile 'em on!

The sitting room is furnished with 2 comfortable wing-back chairs, each equipped with a full-spectrum task lamp. There is a desk with reading lamp and a few office necessities. A table and chairs, big-screen TV with NetFlix, Prime, Acorn, Public TV, and Brit Box streaming. Blue-Tooth high definition radio and DVD player will make you feel at home. We've also provided assorted books, games and classic DVD movies. Public transit schedules, city maps, brochures of local points of interest, and take out menus from nearby eateries are also available.

The bathroom is fully ceramic-tiled and well-lit. It has a shower with bench seat. There is a storage cabinet for your toiletries. We have a hair-dryer for your use and offer bar soap, liquid body soap, shampoo and conditioner. Fresh towels are offered every fourth day of your stay. Bed linens are changed for you every week. We are sensitive to guests who may have allergies or sensitivity to odors. Whenever possible, we use low-fragrance laundry and bathroom cleaning products, but cannot guarantee a fragrance free environment - we can't always control how judiciously the previous guests apply their perfume or cologne. Sorry, for this reason, we also don't allow pets.

There is a secure, lockable storage closet for stowing suitcases, coats and all of your gear. The parking space has motion detector lights and security camera for late night arrivals.

The suite is not a B&B - we don't provide meals. Guests may use the fully-equipped kitchen on the first floor. Your hosts may use the kitchen for making coffee, meeting with clients and eating lunch with students, but guests have priority and generally the kitchen is yours to use when ever you want - You can do your own light cooking, including those late-night snacks and you can eat your take-out meals on real plates at a real dining table. There's even a television in the kitchen so you can catch up on the news and weather while eating. We provide complimentary coffee and tea and an assortment of condiments.

If you're not in the mood for cooking, food choices are not far away. See the AirBnB Map and Guidebook below for local restaurants, coffee shops and bars. A binder with menus from local establishments is available in the suite.

In warm weather, feel free to use the front porch rocking chairs to read, knit, enjoy your morning coffee or people-watch. Our Minneapolis neighborhood, Prospect Park, is known for unique architecture, curving tree-lined streets, and English style gardens. You are safe to take an evening walk or early morning run or bike ride. There is also a private patio with cafe table and chairs on the private and quiet back patio.

From about March/April through October/November the City of MPLS offers nearby bicycle rentals through the "Nice Ride" bicycle system. If we know in advance and have space available, you are welcome to use our dry and secure storage room for your bicycles.

We don't allow pets in the suite. Sorry. We've know some people have allergy issues and that most people don't appreciate pet hair as a fashion accessory.

Guest access
Guests are provided with one off-street parking space near the front door. There may be times when we need to coordinate parking access when we have visitors, but guests will always have priority for a parking space. Neighborhood streets and sidewalks are safe and well-lit at night.

The first-floor is your hosts' private fiber arts studio. It is not open to the general public but we may be working in the space, or have customers or students with us in the studio space during a guest's stay. Guests are free to walk through the studio at any time. Guests have priority for use of the first floor kitchen which they can use at any time, 24/7.

The exterior doors are always secured (24/7) with electronic lock and deadbolt. Guests are provided with a key and a personal electronic lock code of their choosing. The second-floor Suite has it's own deadbolt lock. The parking space has motion detector lights and security camera for late night arrivals. Your hosts live next door for quick response to your needs.

Other things to note
If you prefer to cook your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen, a Fresh Thyme full-service grocery store is just 2-1/2 blocks away. We even have a small "shopping cart" to help you bring your groceries home. Guests have priority for use of kitchen. We may use it to make a cup of coffee or enjoy a snack while working in Bobbin House, but we have our own kitchen and home next door where we cook and eat our meals.

We're just a short walk away from the Textile Center of Minnesota. Other popular attractions are nearby or easily accessible by public transit or car. Check out the "Links" page on our website for more information.

Neighborhood highlights

Prospect Park is an historic Minneapolis neighborhood with the oldest neighborhood association in the Twin Cities. It is next to the University of Minnesota and is a vibrant and eclectic mix of academics, young urbanites, aging bohemian hippies, artists, musicians, young families, business professionals and even a few politicians. The curving, hilly and shady streets are a great place for a walk. Don't be surprised if you see a fox, rafter of wild turkeys, hawks, eagles, rabbits and other unusual wildlife not normally seen in a city - we're very proud of our neighborhood's less-than-perfect manicured lawns and English style "woolly" gardens. Architecture ranges from big old Victorian painted ladies, Frank Lloyd Wright's very first 1934 prairie school Usonian home to contemporary glass houses designed by famous architects and small bungalows. Food venues for breakfast, lunch and dinner are within easy walking distance of 1 - 4 blocks. A full service grocery store is just 2-1/2 blocks away.

My work: Bobbin House Studio, Bobbin Doctor
Your hosts, Steve and Tom are semi-retired and have enjoyed hosting a variety of interesting guests from around the world. Steve is educated as an architect and spent decades in commercial property management. Now that he has retired from his "life career" he has become a nationally recognized professional in the field of vintage sewing machines, tailoring and fiber arts. Tom has a Master of Fine Arts degree and works in advertising graphic design. More and more of our time is spent at the Bobbin House Studio - sewing, fine tailoring, weaving, dyeing, circular sock machine-knitting, quilting, and restoring fine, vintage sewing machines, We're happy to show you what we're up to! We've made Bobbin house our "cabin" next door. It's where we do the fun stuff we enjoy and it lets us share the fun with our guests. The silliness and creativity extend up to the second-floor guest suite where Tom went crazy painting the walls in the style of theater sets. We'd love it if you want to take a fiber-arts class in the studio during your stay. We have enjoyed many creative and interesting guests. A number of well-known artists have stayed here. We're happy to have guests of any interest, but if fiber arts are your thing, this is especially the place for you!
